Trying to find a degree that sounds interesting and go back to college. I was one class away from graduating last time, but due to the school fucking up I couldn't take it, and they wouldn't place me in the class. It was a Gen. Ed. Class with no prereqs, and according to the school, I didn't meet the requirements to take the class.

As for anything else, I'm trying to find a girlfriend, but have been "friendzoned" for the 179128th time (hypebole). Also me and some of my friends have a "How I met your mother group" (awkward couple, single guy(me), no Barney though) amd we hang out a few nights a week.

Vault 101 you've taken a dangerous path. Personally, I've followed a few high school friends on Facebook and the one that makes me feel like a loser is my friend Diana. She's the same age as I am (roughly 24) and is living in Japan, in a band and has been on TV more than once. She's well known but not outright famous at this point and, she's headed towards national fame rapidly.

Compared to me who is still living at home, getting ready to move into my GF's parent's house and with a far less glamorous job. Oh well, grass is always greener, right? I know I'm better off than the people in my school who got knocked up while still in school or the people who chose to join whatever gang was most prevalent in my school (I wanna say MS13...could be mistaken)

somthing seriously weird happned last night

I was on facebook, which is great for spying on and judging people you used to know when I came across a pic of a girl I used to be freinds with in highschol. She apaeared to be pregnant and the photo was tagged "baby shower"

I stared at the screen dumbfounded mumbling "NO!..NOOOOOOOOOO...no no no nno noooo no NO!!??"

I mean she's like 20, younger than me, she's not a trashy person, she's kind of catholic and while she did say she wanted kids in school I'm thinking WHHHAAAAT!!?

I'm not judging her if she is pregant (small chance it could be a joke) its just it totally weirds me out that she's off going to have a baby, whereas I'm still collecting action figures

so my topic here is do you ever find yourself comparing yourself to others in terms of where you are in life?

There's what, at least 7 billion human beings accounted for on Earth? Don't feel so pressured, collecting figurines is a legitimate pastime.

And yes, I compare myself to others all the time. Between sketching, animating, and studying computer programming. That, and trying to fight off apathy.

Well, I'm seventeen, soon to be eighteen, and I really feel like people need to have a decent idea of what they want to do in life by my age, if they want a good chance of succeeding.

I plan to do a journalism degree at university, but first I'm taking a gap year to try and write a novel, and do some volunteer work, etc so as to make sure it's not a total waste if the novel falls through. After university, I'm signing up with the Royal Marines for a few years, to expand my horizons, learn some new skills, travel and earn money I have plans for. After that, continue with a journalism career, or if I'm lucky, write novels (my gap year could be instrumental for this).

Not that this is any sort of guarantee, and a lot of hard work will be required on my part, but I feel I can breath easier with some sort of path to follow.

Compared to most people I know? I have a better job than most (which I hate, but won't get into because I hate being 'that person' who complains about a cushy government job earning over 40k a year), a nice house, and a good family. I'm single, but am happy that way. I live with my twin sister, which people find creepy, but we're two halves of a whole and have decided (we're 29) that this is probably the way it'll be and we're fine with it. We don't date much, and don't bring guys home, as it makes things awkward, but are ok with each other around. (Except we spend an inordinate amount of time screaming at each other, then are playing games together five minutes later. We never grew up.)

Anyway... some people think my life is pretty sad. Me? I'm satisfied. I have good friends (my best of which is a single mom, happy being single, and we've all decided to become cat ladies together... seriously) of all different lifestyles, and my friends don't judge me.. to my face. We are women, though, so we judge everyone all the time.

So... I'm single (but happy with being single), make good money, get time off for vacation, have a good home, good friends and family, and have no debt. I am debt free. Car is paid off, insurance is paid for the next year, etc. I rent my home, but thats not really debt.

I'm better of than most everyone I know, so I can't really complain. Its not a traditional lifestyle, but, fuck it, I already spend most of my evenings and weekends gaming, I'm not a normal 30-ish woman anyway.

I got back in touch with one of my oldest childhood friends when I was 19 and she was 21. Asked her what her life was like now, to which she replied she had a 9 month old daughter. This coming from a person I'd spent almost every day together with during my childhood, I was shocked.

Another close friend of mine had dreams of becoming an art teacher, but moved away to a rural community with her family. When I met up with her a few years later again when she graduated high school, she'd gained probably around 40-50 pounds, was living in a tiny apartment with a white trash guy and working a dead-end job with no improvement in sight. I am myself studying to be an architect and am aiming to live and work all over the world, and I can objectively see that a lot of people probably don't want to live that way and are happy doing something simpler, but I think it's a shame when people just settle and give up their dreams for mundane things when life can be so much more amazing than that.

Well, I notice a lot of my friends have jobs and are living independent of their parents.

Well, at least I haven't gotten anyone pregnant. :/

And at least I've signed up for another semester of school. (Can't believe I'm saying that considering how much I hated going to school during elementary through high school) I can make new friends, and I can try out different things, like photography and psychology. Both of which I'm going to do next semester. All in all, I get to do something.

I'm 21 and in a job I can stand. My current life goals are:

A) Move out. Currently acquiring the funds for this. Shit will be awesome soon.
B) Learn the violin. Because it's the fucking violin.
D) Once that's done - live the life of a playboy musician who hits a rough time when the love of his life walks into his life. Arm in arm with his best friend.
G) Win her over.
L) Happy ending.
F) Learn the alphabet.

When it comes to regret, yeah I've made a few mistakes, but the hell with it. I haven't got a girl pregnant nor lost any friends I actually care about, and work allows a lot of free time. So, yeah. Decent enough.

I'm happy where i am right now but daunted by the amount of college i still have to do (4 years)
Two people from my old year have kids now but aren't married but being married or having a kid isn't where i want to be right now. i'm happy with uni to be honest.

Too be honest its other things that get to me, i see pictures of my old classmates and i think "Wow haven't they grown?" while i still look very young, small and just a little scrawny despite my attempts to bulk up. So i guess i'm mostly just struggling with puberty still. At age 19. Brilliant.

I do tend to judge myself off other people which is a bad idea.... because i have to realise i am me! .. only now at 27 tomorrow... am i starting to get what ill call a steady social life and starting to make a few friends.. actually had a younger friend say to me once... How can you be so much older and yet be so far behind me in growth... that was a bit of a wake-up call for getting out there and trying things.

in fact I was just realised I may never have kids....I have about 6 years of optimial time...even taking out the variable of fidning a partner how much can I acheive in 6 years? at this rate? do I want to be trying in my 30's when my eggs are of less quality?

For me its hard not to compare myself, even though its not suggested and tbh nothing worth comparing. Grass is always greener on the other side as they say.

Right now I'm building my career and saving money for a deposit on a flat.

As for whether I compare myself to other people - yeah, sometimes. I have friends younger than me who are already married, which seems weird sometimes. (Although I've got no real plans to ever get married, so maybe I'll get used to this situation!) And I have other friends the same age who are lucky enough to have already bought property (usually with the help of generous parents). on the other hand, I know plenty of people my age who are still unemployed and living with their parents. So I'm pretty happy with where I'm at.

In september of this year one of the people I was friends with in childhood died. Hit by a car. Same age as me.

Eighteen years old and doing pretty fuckin' good.
Sure, some people may be doing university or some shit, and others may be a social messiah in every situation, but I've got a job that pays well and is pretty much guaranteed until late next year, close friends, a fuckin' great girlfriend, and most importantly, I'm just happy.
I realize that half that stuff has potential to go completely tits up and leave me in a state of deep depression or whatever, but fuck it, I'm happy right now and that's what I'm gonna concern myself with.

Nothing. I was one of the few in my town to go to college and the first in my family, but when I came back with a degree in a field that I ended up having no interest in I found everybody else had got married, kids, and been working since they graduated from high school.

Cut to a year later I'm unable to find a job barely above minimum wage even with my degree, no girlfriend and no hopes of getting one, my friends have moved on while I was away and progressing with their lives while I'm still living in the past and have no ambition to do anything.

I once met a guy who was 20, and was half way to a million dollar.
He'd been selling stuff cosign on EBay for years.
At the time I was 16, almost 17, and had a gross chin gotee.

I'm 18 now with $1,000 in the bank--almost all of which my Dad gave me at the beginning of the semester as a kinf of college allounce. I work at Kohl's as a seasonal *****--make the displays look good and try to get people to sign up for the Kohl's credit card. I'm lucky to get any kind of shift and the pay is bad.

On a brightside. I'm majoring in Economics with a minor in Business Admin. I've been trying to learn Japanese (my Econ prof. suggested learning more languages). I hope that it'll make me a good amount of money.
I like to joke by saying, "At least I'm not majoring in English."

EDIT: Oh yeah, and in High School I knew someone was pregnant. She was really happy about it too. Her mom also asked another girl I knew (this girl did a lot of drugs) if she wanted to be a whore for her.
I went to the rich white kid school too.

One of the girls from my high school had a child after graduation, when most of us went to uni or went into trade. She seems pretty happy so shrug.

Isnt that the goal? To live a happy life. And happiness is relative so comparing with others is pointless.

Only toward my former friends from High School a few times but I can't exactly get alot of info out from their page since I an not "friend" with them.
I mean I can still see how some of my friends from Uni are doing in Facebook like one of them is now a professional photographer (no surpise as he is a pro at it back from Uni) and another friend work in one those big chain sofa store and he is also married and has a child (which suprise me since he mention he wouldn't get married from Uni yime).

Sure, I compare my life with people around me, but never once did I feel inferior to them.
I think i have given it my best, and made better decisions as well as not be effected by what society expects of me or would be labled as the right thing to do.

Also, a lot of things in life can be fixed. You just have to find the time and energy to fix it.
