What are your thoughts on 4chan?

Don't really go on to many boards, however I am a fa/tg/uy and browse it quite frequently, as do most of my D&D buddies actually.

I go on /mu/, people actually know shit about music and give good recommendations.
I go on /a/, pretty much everyone has seen enough to have a valid opinion and know alot about the medium.
I go on /tv/, people discuss new films and old as well as art films and blockbusters.

Face it, once you get past the hate and cynicism the people on 4chan are very knowledgeable about what they are interested in. If you go to the relevant board with entry level taste or try to get along with people who know their shit when you yourself don't you will get shot down.

There is also no place but 4chan where I can mention a band such as Fushitsusha and not expect them not to be known.

That being said there alot of people who don't know what they are talking about and get shot dwn immediately most of the time.

The thing that most people fail to realize, is that most internet communities are the same. They are full of incessant disgusting assholes but also knowledgeable people. Regardless you can have a discussion provided there are enough people around to talk about it (without being assholes).

The only reason I don't go to /a/ as often is cause I get overwhelmed with the amount of threads that I open.

Honestly, I have a few threads on /vg/ I browse regularly.
Sure, it's a pile of whining and omnidirectional hatred, but it's also interesting and sometimes funny, if you take it for what it is.
And I find anonymity comforting.

I hate /tv/ a tad bit more. At least on /pol/ they're consistent in their hatred of pretty much any people that aren't white males, and some of it is almost humorous in it's absurdity. Whereas on /tv/ one day Kristen Stewart is the best actress in the world, and the next you're a gigantic pleb if you don't like La Orige': Whi of 777 (a 5 hour art piece consisting purely of black and white images of flies and drops of rain into a bucket). It's not even humorous because it's the bad kind of absurdity. /pol/ lives up to it's name "politically incorrect", whilst /tv/ doesn't know whether it's about TV, film or celebrity waifus.

... or maybe it's because I don't have a foot fetish like most of the people there.

As for the rest of it... eh. I sometimes /mu/, but the dragon dildo raids on /g/ and the... creatures that infest /v/ have driven me away.

The site layout and the way how the site is handled is pissing terrible. With nothing being permanent, Moot never has a reason to make the site easy to navigate because no one is looking for anything old.

I like it a lot because of the anonymous thing and nothing being permanent. No one is there to prove anything, everyone's opinion is allowed (unlike the typical Up/Down comments which only boosts opinions everyone agrees), everyone talks about subjects that everyone skims over because you can't skip a thread in 4chan without reading the first few posts. Nobody cares about emotions or being educated (except maybe /r9k/, but feels threads are barely anything), everyone is there to laugh, make a memory, jerk off, or any combination of the three.

It's a nice place to waste time.

You should really get 4chan X if you're finding the layout hard. It's got a ton of options and other stuff that makes browsing generally much easier. Also, make sure to use the catalog, it's one handy tool.

oh man they finally banned it? Well... pony stuff still doesn't have it as bad as furry stuff. Nothing ever will have it as bad as them when it comes to 4chan.

OT: Its good when its good and bad when its bad. If you don't like caustic rude behavior and/or don't have a thick skin, then keep walking. It can be terrible and it can be brilliant. However, like anything it should be viewed in moderation. One thing I've learned though, its the things that have the most infamous reputations that you should never generalize.

I've only got hearsay and the odd snippet of threads where the words '******' and 'autism' or some variation thereof seem to be sandwiched between every other sentence, but pretty much every reference I've seen made to the site has been universally negative; the words 4chan in and of themselves seem to serve as an adequate punchline for many people. So yeah, it hasn't exactly left a good impression on me, I've never posted there and as things stand I have absolutely no desire to. Also, the layout is incredibly ugly. Bleh.
