Hello friends,

In this thread we talk about top 10 best games we have played in history. Recently I made a thread about best 10 games of decade. now its time for best top 10 games of all time.

10. Max Payne

Max Payne was highly regarded as one of the best third person shooter of all time. but imo its also one of few good third person shooter ever made. the game was very atmospheric story driven shooter with comic book style cutscene and bullet time gameplay that work perfectly well. the shooting mechanics, the gameplay, game design. everything this game done really well.

9. Mafia: The city of Lost Heaven

Mafia was the game that somehow people compare it to GTA but its a different. its a linear story driven shooter with some open maps divided into chapters. it was better than GTA in every single way. this game feature some of the greatest storyline in gaming history with tommy angelo is best written character i have ever seen.

8. Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay

Riddick Escape from Butcher bay is easily the best movie licence game ever made. the game is even better than its movie. it combine stealth, FPS, and meelee/hand to hand combat into one and it work perfectly fine. the atmosphere of this game was simply incredible. the whole prison breaking theme they done really good. it also have some of the best soundtracks ever.

7. Splinter cell Chaos Theory

This game was the pure stealth simulator. and probably best stealth game of all time. sneaking around the darkness, using night vision was very fun. it also have excellent level design. a single mission of this game is more creative than newer ubisoft games say entire assasssins creed. this was also the last good stealth game until ubisoft dumbed it down.

6. F.E.A.R

FEAR was the game that feature Best combat of any game ever made. it took bullet time slow mo mechanic from Max payne and perfected it. it was dark, gritty and atmospheric shooter. and still to this date no FPS game have better shooting than this game right here. the story was fantastic too and very very creepy.

5. DOOM (2016)

Doom is basically return to old school classic. its a perfect mix of modern and old school into one. the result that it become best game of its type and best in series. i prefer this over original because they are dated today. Doom 3 while fantastic game but this game is more better in every way. after FPS genre being ruined by COD/BF clones, this game bring back to its roots and breath of fresh air.

4. System Shock 2

System shock 2 was very inspirational game.. it was very deep and complex game. and to this date games copy it today like dead space did, like new prey will do. it was core concept of FPS/RPG hybrid which inspired Deus Ex and make it even more excellent. Prey which is closest thing to SS2 is not even close to this masterpiece.

3. Half life 2

Half life 2 was the game that change the landscape of FPS genre like first Half life raise the bar. Pacing of game is Excellent, the variety (from ravenholm to citadel), the level design, the gravity gun. Half life series is basically pioneer of storytelling in FPS genre and it tell incredible story without having a one single cutscene. that was an art of storytelling. shame we will never get half life 3 since valve is no longer a game developer anymore.

2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl

This was the most unique and innovative FPS of all time and still to this day after a decade no other games feel that immersed in the world of zone. most immersive and atmospheric game of all time. 2007 was the time when FPS start feel stale with the released of COD4 and Halo 3. this game however was very unique. it probably one of the best game ever ever ever made. it might be released with flaws but i forgive the flaws here because how immersive this game is. if next Metro game will be even Half as Good as this masterpiece, it will be among the greatest games of all time.

1. Deus Ex

Now this is the best game ever ever ever made. no game still better than this game right here. none of its sequels neither IW which is one of the worst game of all time, nor HR a fantastic game but nothing compare to it and neither did mankind divided which was bad sequel to HR. Like System shock 2 this game perfected FPS/RPG hybrid and bring it to new level. games like Deus Ex are the reason why even mass effect exist today. i played it for the first time before the anticipation of Deus Ex HR. and it ended one of my Fav game of all time. best story in FPS game, the perfect level design, this game sum up everything about gaming.

so here it is my friends, what are you top 10 best games you have played?

lets list them one game per franchise.

I'm not saying anything, but all of those above games feature shooting in some way with beefy white dudes shooting other beefy white dudes with beefy bullets tearing through beefy bodies.

I mean, I'm just saying!

(Also have a chunk of bile for both Half-Life 2 and Doom 2016, but that's another matter.)

Anyway, I can actually go as high as a top 12, so on that note, and keeping it to one game per franchise (which is what my pre-set list does anyway), I can list:

12) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
11) Metroid: Fusion
10) Xenoblade Chronicles
9) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
8) Halo: Combat Evolved
7) Warcraft III
6) StarCraft II
5) Resident Evil 4
4) Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
3) Golden Sun: The Broken Seal
2) Mass Effect
1) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

-Bayonetta
-Vanquish
-The Last Guardian
-Shadow of the Colossus
-ICO
-Dishonored
-Metal Gear Online 2
-Metal Gear Solid 2
-Deus Ex
-MLB 12: The Show
-Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
-Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
-Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
-Batman: Arkham City

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. B-Cell should have to make a list that feature no games with shooting in them.

How many times does have to tell you? If there' no shooting it's not a real game

I can't be bothered to really think about creating a ranked list so here is an assortment of games I really enjoyed.

Dark Souls 1
The Witcher 3
Mass Effect 1
Splinter Cell (probably had the most fun with Blacklist)
Gears of War 1
Halo Combat Evolved
Resident Evil 4
Batman Arkham Knight
Assassin's Creed 2
Vanquish
Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice
Star Fox 64
Mario Party 2
Mario Kart 64
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Warcraft 3
Forza
Call of Duty 2
Condemned Criminal Origins
Dishonored
Fable
Metro Last Light
Psychonauts

Have to edit in Prince of Persia Sands of Time after seeing it above. Holy shit I played that game so many times and loved every minute of it.

1. DOOM (1993): This is still, to me, the perfect shooter. Infinitely replayable and tons of fun. I love its community to death. Plus I have fond memories as my dad & I bonded over this game when I was a young girl. It's my go to "Pick up and play at any time" game. The first one wins out over DOOM II because while I do still love DOOM II, its level design and overall balance is kinda shit in comparison.

2. Fallout: This game made me love RPGs, a genre I had hated up to that point. I adore the Fallout universe. Shame Bethesda sees fit to shit on it at every turn. Glad they resurrected it so that Urquhart and Avellone, y'know the creators of Fallout, could make New Vegas but that's as far as my respect for Bethesda's fallouts go. Glad they brought it back, but a shame they have to sodomize it.

3. Silent Hill 3: I will admit that Silent Hill 2 is the better story and far more impactful emotionally, but I have to be honest... I just enjoy Silent Hill 3 more on the whole. This game feels like a museum to the incredible talents of Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito, it's like traveling through both of their imaginations simultaneously and I can't think of a single other game with such a unique artistic synergy.

4. BioShock: Rapture is one of the most memorable worlds ever created in a video game, and it still enamors me. I miss when AAA games could have this level of imagination.

5. STALKER-Shadow of Chernobyl: The ultimate "Diamond in the rough" game. This game is so fucking flawed and yet it is so fucking good. When it isn't breaking apart at the seams, it is one of the most atmospheric, engrossing, and unique games ever made.

6. Rayman Legends: My all time favourite platformer. It is beautiful, charming, funny, and a joy to actually play. It also has a special place in my heart because my daughter & I had an absolute blast playing it together.

7. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: Best Star Wars game, bar none.

8. Civilization V: An engrossing strategy game I just can't get enough of, and it's another game I love playing with my daughter. Even if she scares me. It took her ONE game to smarten up and beat me. I both love and hate playing strategy games with her because I am a dumbass compared to her. Beating my own 14 year old daughter after she got a grip on this game and started wiping the floor with me was one of the most satisfying accomplishments in my gaming life, and it feels weird saying that.

9. XCOM 2: The XCOM reboot surprised me, but this one even more so. A reboot done right with a sequel done better. Incredible game.

10. Red Dead Redemption: I'll be honest... I don't like Rockstars games that much. Grand Theft Auto doesn't do anything for me. And I thought I would hate this game, but... well, it managed to overcome my dislike for their formula by creating a wonderful world, having a genuinely mature and engaging story (As opposed to the immature, obnoxious sarcasm of GTA), and simply filling a niche that many games don't. Seriously, why don't we have more Western games? I've always felt the Wild West is a perfect video game setting.

Seeing that some people have broken the top ten rule, I had some fun and expanded my list to Top 20, albiet with the rules of one game per franchise. I will say though that while the top 12 are reasonably straightforward, 13-20 have lots of wriggle room between them (e.g. Dead Space has a much more engrossing singleplayer campaign than Gears 2, but lacks Gears's multiplayer, so...)

20) Killzone 2
19) Diablo III
18) Super Mario 64
17) Banjo-Kazooie
16) Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
15) BioShock
14) Dead Space
13) Gears of War 2
12) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
11) Metroid: Fusion
10) Xenoblade Chronicles
9) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
8) Halo: Combat Evolved
7) Warcraft III
6) StarCraft II
5) Resident Evil 4
4) Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
3) Golden Sun: The Broken Seal
2) Mass Effect
1) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

I was confused there for a while.
I read one game PER genre, but all I saw from your list WAS from one genre?
Also, why are your guns angled the wrong way??

Anyway, here is a list of favorite games I currently remember:

Freelancer
Beyond Good & Evil
Anachronox
Dwarf Fortress
Distant Worlds - Universe
Sword of the Stars - complete collection
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Fallout 2
Diablo II
Harbinger
Deus Ex
Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic
Startopia
...
..
Might have forgotten some.. Can't remember now.

No particular order, it would take forever to decide on.

TIE-Fighter (The X-Wing series was fantastic, and Tie Fighter took a great game and improved on it in several ways)
Chrono Cross (I thought the animations and music just edged it out over the superior story of Trigger)
Silent Hill 2 (still the best of survival horror)
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (It was perfect, the engine of MGS2... with the FAAARRR superior story of MGS.)
Masters of Orion 2 (a PC gaming masterpiece)
Fallout 3 (any fallout here really, I just chose 3 to piss off the MOST people)
Perfect Dark (still the best shooter ever made)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (toss up between this and OoT)
Shadow of the Colossus (an amazing experience)
Ultima 7 (the real forerunner of nearly every WRPG, and still one of the best of the lot)

In no particular order:

Killer7,
Fallout: New Vegas,
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl,
Carmageddon,
Ittle Dew,
Borderlands 2 (even if I can't go back to it anymore),
Killzone HD/3,
Donkey Kong Land,
Metro 2033 (the original, not the remake),
Machine Games' Wolfenstein games (hard to pick just one)

There are quite a few more, but these are what I recall from the top of my head.

Why the fuck not...

(In no particular order)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (CoP) Yes, I know, SoC is the more "popular" choice, but I always preferred the 3rd instalment... Shoot me...
Elite: Dangerous: I just can't get enough of it... Don't know why, but people hanging on Star Citizen can shove that over-blown game up their ass...
Warframe: Much like Elite, this is a hard game to get into... But once you're in, it's really hard to put it down.
ABUSE: Honestly, I remember more about this game than any other on this list... Played it in the 90's when I died every 3 steps, played it through high-school whenever the TV was taken, and I even boot it up today... Sure, it hasn't survived the test of time, but I still love it in all it's pixelated goodness.
Metro 2033: It's dark, gloomy, atmospheric and absolutely fantastic... I hope the 3rd one can live up to the hype.
Burnout Paradise: Oh how much I miss this game series... I really wish EA didn't fuck with them forcing them to make Need for Speed games as hybrids... Speaking of...
Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005): My all time, favourite driving game... Best NFS out there, and how sad do I feel that they're STILL re-hashing the starter map of this game... I just wish it worked on Windows 10 (Or maybe it's a 64-bit thing)
Pokemon (Platinum) Once again, don't care what everyone else says... Gen 4 was my favourite. Not that the newer ones are *bad* per-say, but I felt I enjoyed this one the most.
Gran Turismo (4) Again, not saying the newer ones aren't as good, they're better in almost every way... BUT I spent literally DAYS playing this game, non-stop... I didn't have weekends during High School... I had Endurance Races.
Dark Souls And yes, I'm talking about the original... I haven't played DS2, but everyone I've spoken to says I'm not missing *much* by not playing it... And DS3, while a great game in all sense of the words, just didn't quite live up to what I was expecting.

So there we go, I'm sure there are a few strange titles in there...

I very much agree with this. SoC is the popular choice and the game in the series that most obviously stuck to its idea of open world. It was also pretty anemic even when it wasn't crashing or bugging. By CoP GSC had finally figured out the formula and it makes CoP the best game in the series by a wide margin. The open world is actually somewhat coherent, there's a functional faction and reputation system in place and the whole schtick of anomalies and artifacts works in a manner that actually gels with the lore and the rest of the game.

CoP does lack some of the high points of SoC, most notably the NPP itself and the X-labs (even though CoP tries to emulate what made X-18, 16 and 19 so scary), but it makes up for it by being much more consistent in being a good game.

As for my top 10 games, something like this in no particular order:
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Yes, I prefer it over the original, fite me)
Mount & Blade: Warband
Hearts of Iron 2
Tom Clancy's The Divsion
Rainbow Six: Siege
Total War: Warhammer 2
The Last of Us
Saint's Row: The Third

Honorable mentions to Payday 2, Civilization V, Subnautica, Uncharted 2, STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Outcast, Guild Wars, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and Jade Empire. There truly are too many games that I consider top hits, and many of them were so during specific times of my life. I'll never play HoI2 again, yet at the time I absolutely adored it, same goes for M&B:W. In some ways, I see favorite games as buildings blocks, where TW: WH2 builds on the foundation of fondness I have for the TW-series, going all the way back to Shogun.

Wow that's a tall order of every game I've ever played in my life. I mean I've played a lot. I suppose the most logical thing to do would be to name a load of games I consistently come back to and enjoy every time I play. In no particular order (and only picking one from an individual series I love...except for the ones I cheat on)

Blade Runner (PC)
Sonic Mania (PS4 / PC - could be too early to say for this, but it's over taken S3&K for me, and that would have been my go-to sonic game)
Resident Evil Remake (GameCube)
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (Wii Virtual Console) / Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS) (I refuse to pick between these)
Final Fantasy 6 (SNES) / Secret of Mana (SNES) / Chrono Trigger (SNES) (not picking again)
Discworld Noir (PC)
Robin Hood: Conquests of The Longbow (PC)
Life Is Strange (PS4)
Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge (PC)
Streets of Rage 1 (Mega Drive)

...I'm adding Mario Kart WII in as well as my multiplayer as choice, just because I can.

Oh no, am I out of choices already? TBH, those were just the ones that came to mind that I consistently want to play and think about. There are millions more. I was about to put LA Noire (PS3) but I guess I've run out of options.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Hmm, lets see.
I suppose in no particular order.

Hollow Knight
Dark Souls 3
Undertale
Super Metroid
Binding of Issac
Shadowrun Hong Kong\Dragonfall
Doom 2\Heretic
Rayman Origins
Dawn Of War series
Blood

Lil bit of cheating by combining games that use the same engine.

Roughly in order (and sticking to the rules of the OP, which my co-forumites have so rudely thrown by the wayside):

10) Bloodborne;
9) Yoshi's Island (counting this as a part of the Mario series, so no other Mario games);
8) Batman: Arkham City;
7) Half Life 2;
6) Pokemon: HeartGold/ SoulSilver;
5) Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch;
4) Guild Wars: Prophecies;
3) Final Fantasy IX (very narrowly edges out FFX);
2) Okami;
1) Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (very narrowly edges out OoT).

Honourable mentions: Silent Hill 2, Age of Mythology, Banjo-Kazooie.
