Lower middle class bourgeois border guard or upper class royalty or government.
anything that lets me step on the faces of the lower classes.

in MMO's and/or MOBA's I love playing tanks...
(Although in MMO's I'll swap between tanking and healing)

In single-player games I love being a ranger... So hiding in a bush shooting someone from a mile away with an arrow to kill them in one shot...?
Totally satisfying...

I play a DPS in whatever type of game I am playing. Neither support nor tanking roles interest me. I also tend towards rogues, then warriors, with casters being my least played archetype.

I wouldn't say I had a natural class.

In WoW I gravitated towards healer. I'm way too fidgety to queue as dps, and I didn't like the idea of main role as a tank at that moment, so most of my dungeon time just happened to be spent as a healer, and I kinda liked it. Later on I played a bit of tank though, and I liked that too. Also btw my first character was a Rogue. So yeah, no real rule there.

There's probably a few games where I started off as a Rogue type. Neverwinter Nights was one of them; nearly put me off the class for life, but not quite. But then some games I'll start off as something very different. In Skyrim my first character was a mage, despite my first characters in the other Elder Scrolls series games having been out and out fighters. Sure, most of my Skyrim characters since then have been fighter types too, but still, somehow I gravitated towards mage the first time I played that game.

GW2: I was absolutely set on Elementalist during the beta. Couldn't get enough of the playstyle. And then upon release the one character I actually got to max lever was a Warrior.

It's a strange world.

DEX based, delivering as many hits with as high crit % as possible. Ranged bows or up close and personal, dual-wield with daggers or swords. Backstabby, very hard to hit light (or unarmored), monks and rogues, whatever fits the bill. Tend to play a dirty one-on-one fighter rather than a crowd controller. That's for my main character anyway. Never had the patience to learn the different kind of finesse required for mages.

As for FPS games, I usually go extremes as well, snipe from afar or shotguns. Unless it's a new game I'm trying to get a feel of and/or learn the maps, then I'll go assault because that's safest, and also the most boring.

In Payday, the only reason I use assault rifle mostly in the beginning was because it was the only gun that held enough ammo to go through a section.

MMORPG: Healer/support when playing in groups and guilds. I play solo DPS roles for story most of the time. If the MMORPG has a class specialized in controlling minions of some sort I go both solo and groups.

I tend to feel obligated in healing/support in the many MMOs I have played since it just cuts on times when finding players and knowing you have a decent support character lets me have time to focus on other important tasks in battles like positioning on tanks, dps, and control types. Enemy status and friend status can be covered so you know when to buff and debuff in any situation. If I am a class that controls minions and has a secondary of buff/debuffer I play similar to heal/support, but more offensive and if the ability is given I use minions as damage/aggro control/debuffers when say a tank and healer need a few seconds to recoup and so the dps do not get knocked out for minions are always in most cases expendable to sacrifice for other players. Also when playing such a class I keep times on raid bosses special attacks and such to better coordinate the team so damage is kept to minimal for all parties.

If I am playing a solo RPG I just go with the most powerful build that can in many games just solo everything. I want to feel like the main hero of that game who has no equal in the end of it.

Usually, I like playing as the "glass cannon". Scout in TF2, low armor but high damage builds in Dark Souls, and Rogues or Druids is World of Warcraft. My philosophy is that armor is a crutch for people who can't dodge or kill their targets quick enough.

Sneaky long range guys who also happen to dominate up close. I was a rogue sneaking round with Heavy Dragon Armor in Skyrim, taking out fools with stealth kills using my Longsword.

Also, pretty much any class that requires no skill.

Magic users. The more complex, the better. If I get to specialise, I'll usually go with ice or cold magic. Unfortunately, almost every game that has these options falls quite short in the implementation of them. Especially in MMOs and the Elder Scrolls games.

In fact, I think the only magic system I've truly enjoyed is in Magicka.
You might like the magic system in Lichdom : Battlemage. Apart from the game being built around mages=badasses, the magic creation system often kept me micromanaging for a couple of minutes before heading into battle. Like in magicka you combine elements of spells you find into new combinations. So for example you'll add ice as a damage factor, an AOE modifier, a DOT and voila, your personal pillar of frostburn ice is ready.

I usually tend to go high risk high reward melee if the game allows, usually either dualwielding or heavy weapons + light armor that usually need some baiting but can punish heavily (like great sword in monster hunter). I very rarely play any kind of shielded character.

Otherwise I tend to favor some kind of control classes or support, or if there is some kind of unpopular character just to see what they can actually do. I really enjoy mind-games.

When i got persona 4 arena and played with my siblings, no-one wanted to use kanji because he is so much slower at moving than the other characters. He quickly became my favorite character in any fighting game :D those air grapples followed by chairs are insanely fun.

Plate armoured melee or sneaky assassin type.

Playing a caster too much in EQ burned me on that archetype, I largely avoid them unless a hybrid or battlemage type is offered.

When the game doesn't force me to be a tank because the PC automatically has triple the aggro of everyone, a stealthy sniper. It's much easier to accomplish this in class-based shooter games, but for some reason fantasy games hate stealthy archers.

I always plays Sword & Board Paladins and Knights. There is nothing like taking a fatal blow for an ally and shrugging it off like a boss. Some of my fondest memories in Tera and Dragon's Dogma are timing that perfect blow to deflect a bosses attack and rush counter them.

Ironically I used to like playing casters, back in this old mmo game called Ferentus I played a Sorcerer. The cool thing about that game is spells functioned like an active reload in Gears of War you would have to time the cast along a bar for the most powerful effect.

Damage in some way, shape, or form. Specifically,
-In MMOs, I usually end up being the DPS Mage, pumping out as much damage as I can as quickly as I can from as far away as I can to as many enemies as I can. I love blowing up enemies in a shower of fire and their former comrades.
-In MOBAs, which I rarely play, I usually end up being the Marksman, as being a mage is usually too bursty for me. I like to whittle down my enemies with auto attacks and then blast them away with one shot from my bow.
-In RPGs, I like playing a hybrid magic/physical damager in some way. In NWN2, I'm a warlock. In Dragon's Dogma, I'm a Magic Archer. In Dragon Age: Origins, I always go Arcane Warrior. I always love taking down monsters with fireballs and finishing off the stragglers with my sword.

Bonus points to Melee damaging mages that pump out even more damage at the cost of my range. Seriously, I love killing my opponents as quickly as possible.

The stealthy sniper in most games.
In MOBAs I'm the Yordle Class. I play with one til I win with them then move on to the next in alphabetical order.

For Fantasy RPGs...

The guys with platearmor, and if available Pole weapons.. wich sadly have been badly ignored in recent years when it comes to fantasy games.

When it comes to Sci fi?

The guys who wear the power armor... seriously Devs... we need more awesome powerarmor in our sci fi games! With jetpacks!

It depends on the game. For a MOBA, I normally play carries or tanks. In RPGs like Morrowind I'll play as a sneaky ranger type. In shooters I tend to be a sniper or an assaultman. If we're talking about something like M:TG, then I'll play just about anything under the Sun as long as I have the cards to make the deck; I've played Dredge, RDW, Aggro-Cawblade, U/W Planeswalker control, ramp, and combo (grapeshot and Belcher).

i tend to prefer the independent operators, the scouts, the snipers, the people you never know are there watching in the shadows until you realise all your guards are dead and explosions are going off.

I almost always begin playing as a warrior, they are the easiest to wrap your head around, and in a RPG where learning the systems can go from super easy to incredibly ludicrous in their learning curve, starting with an easy to grasp class is very useful for jumping headlong into the fray. Equip weapons and armor then go hit things... no real challenge here.

My absolute favorite class is mage, I love robust powerful spellcasters, but spellcasting systems can get rather complex so it's an added layer of complexity I don't want right when I begin a new game.
