I like Bards, Light fighters (mostly rouge/fighter or swash/fighter) and Monk.

Currently I am playing a Diviner and a Barbarian. So much fun =D

I've tried to get Valkyrie established as a race so I can play Labyrinth as the character in the Election. That hasn't worked yet, so at the moment I stick to a half-elf assassin and sometimes a sorcerer. Generally neurotic, though I played a good character once for shits and giggles. Evil is just more fun.

Here's a fun game: judge each of your friends' D&D-style alignments. Evil or Good is determined by how selfish or selfless they are; Lawful or Chaotic is determined by whether they usually do what they should do or what they shouldn't do.

I generally make characters who's talent in combat is laughable and whose usefulness to the party is questionable but is incredibly fun to roleplay. Character class doesn't matter to me though. When I'm actually playing D&D and not a homebrew ruleset or a tributary of the d20 system then I like to play as a bard, mostly because no one plays as a bard.

Apparently I'm one of the few who can play one without going into lawful idiot mode, killing everything not lawful good or human.
I thought that was more or less the point?

J/k... partly.

Fighters in a heavily modded 1st ed/AD&D can be very powerful. Although I weren't the one modding it, then I would show the ice mage that kept up blowing holes through me in duels with Ice Bolt.

Play? Damn, been a long time since I've had that privilege. Yeah, I'm the DM, going on 15 years now. Sigh.

If you're the DM, then your'e playing God. which is also fun, although it's definitely the most work (I've been on both sides of the screen, and it's definitely harder to run.)

I have a tendency to either lean toward monks or those that use stats that shouldn't be used for what they are used for... like Int for AC... and Damage

Go you crazy swashbuckler, invisible blade, duelest combo...

Oh and the drunken master sounds fun to RP
Bingo!

Actually, I just play the munchkin. You know, the truly crazy stuff.
I once did over 700 damage at level 9 because I had a large greatsword which my DM allowed to hit up to 10 feet away... And did a whirlwind attack to a group of enemies surrounding me who shared a health pool. Lol legion devils.

I'm playing three different characters in 4e campaigns at the moment: Evil (cough LAWFUL EVIL) Kobold vampire rogue/warlord (with several skills/items to improve charging and 18 str), Neutral Drow Warlord, and Neutral Bugbear Ranger. Previously, I was playing a CN Halfling Rogue.

The bugbear ranger is a hilarious build, let's just say at level 4 he has 20 AC and does two separate 1d12 attacks per round with +8 to hit and +8 to damage, with an additional 1d6 to either on hit. He has an atrocious Will save, but what do you do? :D

God... I haven't played that game for so long. I remember though. I was almost always a ranger or a fighter. Keeping it simple.

I play them all. Typically though I always play a character that does not fit the class. Like a Half-Orc Sorcerer or a Gnomish Paladin. At least that was when Gnome and Half-Orc were a race!

I still pretty much do the same thing. Rocking it with a Dwarven Ranger right now.
