So why exactly are Valve disqualified again?
I would say so it had more variety. This website loves valve to bits, it'd be a bit boring if every other post was VALVE!

OP:

I would say Rare. I love those guys and Viva Pinata is brilliant.

Somebody say valve?

Got all twitchy and took my wallet out.

As everyone else is saying Valve, I'm gonna throw a new name into the ring and say Bungie.

They get lots of hate for Halo, but it wasn't entirely their fault, and they're nice guys really.
Im cautious of bungie cause of that frozen dog head they have

OT: I kinda like how todd howard came into developing a series after its first game because that means he will have fond memories and will make the game better (Im talking about tes) and the way he talks about skyrim makes me feel that he is in the game
and notch is also very good all the monney grubbing is from his boss not him
its a discussion about devs not companys right

This question has been bothering me so what developer has the most soul?

A few things to explain The most soul means these 4 guidelines.
1 Must try new things alot explore a forgotten genre
2 Must release new ip`s and not uncreative sequels galore
3 Creativity once in a while

So who do you think has the most soul?

I would say Rockstar surprisingly because of their last 2 games were HUGE risks in terms of
finances.
Red dead redemption
A western reanimating an entire genre.
And la Noire
Which arguably created a genre.

Edit valve is requalified after consideration because i did not want people to keep spamming all they want but now spam ahead Please forgive me for my sins and unovertaugh rules
*ahem* STOP GIVING ROCKSTAR CREDIT FOR ANOTHER DEVELOPER'S WORK! It's starting to make me a bit cross.

Half-Life
Counter-Strike
Team Fortress
Left 4 Dead
Portal
Alien Swarm

So why exactly are Valve disqualified again?
Because all of those games except for Team Fortress and Half-Life were made by mod teams and the mod teams were bought out by Valve. Dont get me wrong, Valve is awesome and I own all their games, but people arent giving proper credit where its due.
Wasnt Team Fortress a mod for Quake?

OT: Volition, just walk around in Saints Row and look at the easter eggs. They are proud of that game

Rockstar? The company that lives off of grand theft auto games? LA Noir, the modern day classic adventure game? Read Dead redemption, Grand theft auto in the West?

You see what I did there? Clearly our definitions of things like innovation and creativity and what constitutes certain nebulous concepts like that don't match. As a result this thread is kind of meaningless since people think differently and we aren't likely to understand each other's opinions.

Anyways, I would arguable say most indie companies fit your definition since they have to release new thing since they own no IPs and they often create very unusual or experimental games.

I would say Rocksteady, Arkham Asylum was the first game that I've played that combined two disparate gameplay styles so well (stealth and combat in this case) also its nifty to spend a game feeling like Batman.

I like Ubisoft, not saying they're my favourite but since Valve and Double Fine have been mentioned, I'm putting up Ubisoft here.

Now, granted they don't always hit the game on the head properly and then kill it with sequels, the way they kill it with sequels is because their game isn't perfect. That's the best approach to it imo, Prince of Persia SoT had crap combat, so the sequel fixed that, but then the platforming was gone. So in the third one they fixed both but killed the narrative somewhat. The same happened to Assassin's Creed, the first one has faults, they were revised in 2, revised further in Brotherhood etc etc. Yes they milk the cow a bit but that's not really the developers in my opinion, that's the producers who will do anything for a quick buck (in ANY company). I quite liked the Farcry series too and Tom Clancy's series has grown on me somewhat. Oh, and I grew up with Rayman...THE OLD AWESOME RAYMAN, before stupid rabbits invaded the world ¬_¬

My runner up of not being mentioned properly will be Frictional games. Sure, they stick to the same genre but they put so much heart into it, it's done oh so well. They're an indie company also, so asking so much from them would just be cruel.
