Think it's boring, and prefer your rockin' metal?
You do know that in terms of technicality and virtuoisity many classical composers would most likely have played in metal bands had they been born in this day and age.
No.

In terms of technicality and virtuosity many classical composer would most likely be making contemporary classical music had they been born in this day and age.
*Disagrees* Beethoven laid as much ground work for modern metal as black sabbath did. Some of the most exciting, techinical and challenging music being created these days is by metal bands, who is to say many classical composers wouldn't. Maybe not in an aesthetic way but in a composition way they would. At least in my mind. Anyone who looks at modern classical music and doesn't look towards metal is not getting the full picture in my mind.
But to say that most classical composers would be in metal bands?

I see the comparison you're making, but i think this is one of those things we'll have to agree to disagree on. Metal is influenced by classical, but that only goes one way.

The greats of the Classical and Baroque period laid the groundwork for ALL western music. Yes, classical influenced metal, but it has influenced contemporary classical more, which is often much more technically challenging and more complex in it's composition.

I actually do listen to a lot of metal, but I quite enjoy some classical as well. In particular I like Chopin and Tchaikovsky(yeah they're pretty different compared to each other but still).

I prefer quietly sad and beautiful music, such as the compositions of Ludovico Einaudi.
I just found out that Einaudi wrote the soundtrack for one of my favourite films, 'This is England'. Part of the reason that i love it is that the music is quite moving in places. You should check it out.

I love classical. I'm not exactly a fan but I will regularly tune in to my local classical station while I'm painting or putting something together.

As much as I love Rock n' roll, punk, Ska, Reggae, R&B and Country I can't really concentrate when I listen to them. They're too demanding of my attention.

That's not to say that I don't or won't just listen to some classical, because I will. But as a lot of it isn't as demanding as most modern music I find that I can listen to it and enjoy it while still concentrating on something else.

I'm a bit indifferent, I do like classical music but I'm not going to go out and buy a cd of Bach.

Still, I learned the piano for ten years (finished up this year) and Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Particularly spring) is one of my favourite songs.

I'm not that big on Classical.

I can appreciate it objectively, and I really enjoy the arranging, but I find it boring and rigid. I'll admit that I haven't listened to a lot of it but compared to something like Jazz it just seems dull.

I tend to think in terms of classical structure, arrangement, etc.

Classical music is kind of a catch-all for a lot of different styles that are no longer contemporary. It's like calling everything "rock" these days, even though there are radically different styles (Unless you want to argue Chuck Berry and ICP are similar enough to count, or the Who and Kid Rock).

I'm more or less a casual "classical" fan, rarely straying from staples like Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. It's not so much disinterest as no real starting point.

I like pretty much all classical music. As long as it isnt Vivaldi, that shits just unbearable.

Tchaikovsky is great though.

I love classical music Tchaikovsky, Holst & Chopin are my favourite, but Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is one of THE best night-time driving tracks ever

I find the song to be a bad example of a fusion of metal and classical. Sure the one guitar player can do a few progressions ripped from some classical parts, but the rest of the band is bland and repetitive. Maybe if they had a bit more variety in tempo I would like it better, but it sounds like they start to cover a classical piece then kinda gave up.

Sure the solo sounds classical, but the song as a piece of music is a piece of crap.

It's good that people are trying tho. I would say something from Cynic off of Focus might be a better example of this fusion.
It may be a piece of crap and a bad example, but he does have a point. Metal structure is heavily rooted in classical structure, even if it's not necessarily good. Even a lot of the "solo" styles developed from classical techniques--tapping and sweeping come to mind.

I love classical music (AND rock and metal...and blues...and folk...enjoying one does not mean you can't also like the others!) Favorite composer? Wagner.

I can relax to classical music. I quite enjoy it. It seems weird to most people, but hey.

Never liked the music my friends or other kids were listening to (rock, rap, pop etc.) when I was young. It always sounded incredibly generic. Classical music appealed to me far more, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata being a favorite. Large orchestral interests me the most, not too fond of the kind of Classical music in the original post.
Then as I grew older I became more interested in stuff by The Red Army Choir.
Recently though my music taste has turned to early 1900's Jazz, Big Band being a favorite.

I guess the trend here would be lack of any electric or synthesized instruments and a relatively large group of people all working together in harmony to create music.

I can appreciate it, since I play piano and bass and have had some exposure to certain pieces, but I wouldn't call myself a huge fan. I mean, I like classical music well enough, but it's not something I'd listen to for fun. If I'm in the mood for it, then sure, but I don't have a particular preference for it. I don't go home every night and think, hey, what to listen to? How about some Vivaldi.

Having played in an orchestra myself, I love listening to pieces with many parts, because you can hear every layer. It's so complex, and you wonder how the composer managed to put it all together. Also, those really epic pieces; they remind me a bit of Manowar. So yeah, I also like hearing where the music I listen to now actually came from in the first place.

I listen to NPR every day in the car, and while I don't enjoy the Liberal news, I do enjoy the classical music.
I turn it off when it gets to the news and only listen to the filler music.

I love the sound of a string orchestra, but I prefer jazz to classical. But nothing beats... whatever this is.
