Well, just because the show points at itself and goes "Look how skeezy this is, ain't it dumb", doesn't make it any less skeezy.

The whole design is super fetishizing and in no way meant to deter the audience from salivating over it. Which is fine, but don't try to apply some point to it, because there isn't any.

It's trying have its cake and eat it.
That sounds almost like that one other Gainax anime. What was it called again? Nadia of the Blue Water?
What, really!?

Nadia just had a simple exotic outfit that was kind of a relic from her circus days. No more no less.

Unless ofcourse I'm missing something obvious here.

Eh...it's alright, I guess. The whole 'ZOMGSOOVERTHETOP' thing was old when TTGL did it, and this show's not really hooking me. Yeah, yeah, I know, I probably just can't handle a stronk independent womyn (please note the masssive sarcasm).
Oh yeah, and OP, if you want deep, sexy voice, this chick's got nothing on Janet in Shock Treatment.

So far it's just mindless fun. I loved FLCL and GL so this is right up my alley. I can see how some people might not like the show, there is definitely A LOT of fan service but that's to be expected from this studio honestly. The character designs, voice acting and action are all great.

Also from the uniform forcing it's way on her and the doctor huffing and puffing over her I knew this show would end up on this forum eventually. Weekly rape/sexism topics yay

People keep saying that, yet their previous work was Little Witch Academia which featured ONLY GIRLS and NO FAN SERVICE. And it was great, because we got to see an anime production that wasn't packed to the gills with pandering.

I don't recall Nadia being overly sleezy, I think you are thinking of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

That show was just like sex jokes and puns every other minute.

I...

I meant Evangelion.

The joke was that I obviously meant Evangelion because "The whole design is super fetishizing and in no way meant to deter the audience from salivating over it" and "It's trying have its cake and eat it." could most definitely be applied to several situations and people in Eva. The other half of the joke was that I couldn't think of NGE's name even though it's the most famous thing Gainax has done. I specifically chose Nadia because I could have construed as being serious if I'd referenced most of their other works. Apparently my cutting wit was too clever and subtle.

So yeah, that was the joke.

I. FUCKING. LOVE. THIS SHIT. Seriously, no fucks given to what anyone else says. I've been on a bit of an anime binge this year, watching everything young and old. Cowboy Bebop, Evangellion, Welcome to N.H.K., Sword Art Online, blah, blah, blah, yakitty smackity, and none of them have gotten me pumped enough to draw Fanart.

The unforgiveable sin an artist can commit. Drawing something as a fan, is abhorent. BEHOLD (It's only a Work in Progress so it's not finished)!

But yes, I enjoy the style, the characters, the setting, all the parts fitting together to make something more fun than a monkey with a bazooka.
Maaaaaaaaaaaan, I wish I could draw something that good. I've been practice sketching a bit more than I usually do, which is good, but not as much as I want.

Also, I find this image somewhat relevant to my current skill level:
Do you have an art blog or something I could follow? I want to see more of your stuff.

OT: The show is, to be frank, incredibly impressive from an artistic point of view. The designs are wonderful, the world they created is beautiful and has a sense of mystery to it, the animation is fluid and stylized (even though there are a few moments where I wish they would've spruced it up a bit), and it's just... ARGH. The art direction for the entire thing is just marvelous. A+++/5

The action is top notch as well. I love it when I can just turn my brain off and enjoy a mindless show with tits and fighting for once.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THURSDAY OHMAGAWD

That fanart is gorgeous and if you drew that, then I will break the nearest pair of scissors in half and give you one of the remaining pieces! :D
Yes, yes I did, and I want it needs to be red for authenticity!

Why thank you as well. Persistence is what I wholly recommend, it's something that I take deadly serious, so I dedicate more time than one should to each piece.

GET HYPED.

Well, they released a 30 second trailer for Kill la Kill episode 3. Looks like what they said about episode 3 being a "finale" episode at the start of the series wasn't exaggeration.

Can't wait to see how much of the school they destroy during this episode, or how they are going to end this story arc this fast.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x15xmyt_tv

On another note Satsuki's uniform looks totally badass. Pretty much a total inverse of Ryuuko's

Wholly fuckstick I saw something on Gelborru(?) of that and I thought it was an artists interpretation of what her "stripperific" outfit would be like, I really shouldn't be surprised.

But they're doing the whole story shift this soon, usually it takes till about episode 8. Are they going to be throwing around Galaxies again?

Nakashima talks Kill la Kill.

-They went with a female protagonist because it felt better; and he wants to write protagonist Ryuuko as a strong but beautiful character that struggles.

-Why clothing? it actually started as a joke. Seifuku means both conquest and uniform, fashion and facism are written the same in Japanese. They took that and ran with it. The entire world-view of Kill la Kill comes back to clothing.

-Episode 7 will be Mako's big moment.

-Episode 3 will make people realize why the costume needed to be so skimpy; and the direction of the story will become perfectly clear.

-The story will become very surprising after episode 3 and they want the audience to always need the next episode as soon as possible.

So wait, was this some sort of attempt to paint out the show as some sort of feminist endeavor?

...because I don't really think that's not reading all sorts of western nerd circles hot topic de jour shit into it.

Anyway, while it might certainly be the most interesting way high school fashion conflicts might conceivably be presented, I for one am not in the mood for its particular censored-for-(-at-least-Japanese-)tv branch of absurdity, and will thus be sitting it out.

I don't know about "perfectly clear," but I was too distracted by how way-over-the-freaking-top EVERYTHING was this episode to pay attention to the dialogue. I'd have to watch it again. All I remember was that her uniform became way more powerful when she stopped being self-conscious about her stupid outfit, and that Satsuki's uniform (which is even more absurd how the hell is that even possible) was more powerful than hers at first because she was proud of who she was and didn't give a flying fuck what anyone else thought about of how she looked.

I wonder when the teacher gets his own Kamui!

I lulzed at all the people who said earlier (even in this thread) that the fanservice was okay because the show was "in on it" and even Ryuko was constantly embarrassed to be wearing such a revealing outfit.

The show now has how Ryuko should be comfortable naked in front of everyone as a defining plot and character point. Watch it again, not "she should be comfortable with her looks" it's that she shouldn't care if she's naked in public. I still like it, but don't pretend this is something it isn't.

This may be the first show I drop because of fanservice, and I watch shitty harems. Though my annoyance probably comes from everyone points it out and how people defend it of being pro-feminist or anything aside from pandering.

And what the hell is up with their tits flapping in the wind when they change cloths?

I think what he meant was in relation to how the Japanese word for uniform is the same as conquest. By not wearing a 'uniform" and thus not conforming, and just being ok with yourself, you find true power.

It's also probably why that 5 star uniform they made earlier in the episode went crazy.

This was my feelings on the entire episode

Well the term for that is Gainaxing [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Gainaxing], so maybe they just can't help themselves after having a trope named after their old company and have to put at least one character in their shows in stupid outfits and have their breasts flail the fuck about.
I wish they wouldn't have that in. I find myself scrolling down during the transformation sequences because the titty flailing is just... bleh.

Satsuki stated the point that the writers are trying to make. She said "the fact that you are embarrassed by the values of the masses only proves how small you are!" Not that this is a sentiment I can get behind. The "I get it now, I need to get naked" line I thought was pretty awful.

I think our reaction towards this show is sexist. When is Ryuko an object of sex? When does she use her body to seduce guys? Her existence isn't just for sex and she doesn't need any guys to help her with her problems. In fact most of the time guys around her are automatically getting horny and reacting as if she is an object of sex, this tells us more about the audience and the viewers more than Ryuko or the female autonomy. In fact Ryuko needs her body to fight on equal stance against the other uniform students. She fights and fights according to her beliefs. If this was a half naked guy fighting (Goku, Vegeta, DBZ, Hokuto No Ken), we wouldn't call his costume shameful we would just think it's "manly". Maybe what the animators are trying to do is allow us to get over the fact that the female body isn't something to be shameful about and it's not something to be lusted over either. It has a function and an independent purpose other then trying to get guys to fall in love. If anyone thinks Kill la Kill is sexist I think they are missing the point. Maybe we should start considering Ryuko and Satsuki's costume to be "womanly" rather than shameful or sexy.

The guys that are portrayed honorably are the guys who treat Ryuko as an equal. Even in her costume they don't think about having sex with her and they recognize her honor, and have no problem fighting her, because they recognize her as someone who has strength, not an existence which is inferior.

Also this show passes the Bechdel Test in every way imaginable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bechdel_test

1. It has more then two females in it - Way more than two females!
2. Who talk to each other - Many many conversations.
3. About something besides a man - All conversation in this anime.

In fact this anime almost fails the Bechdel Test for guys.

Seems like a shallow anime that?s not especially entertaining or worth my time. Lazy writing and repetitive fights. I also think the show is nowhere near as good as people say it is. It's like Dragonball Z, but with heavy amounts of fanservice. It's alright if you like that stuff, but it's not for me.
