What do you think of US soldiers?

I think the majority of modern day soldiers are fools that are brain washed by propaganda and their own idiocy who sign up to go and kill people.

The government tells us that murder is illegal but then it employs millions of people to go and murder people all over the world, why is the government exempt from its own rules?

Soldiers are brave young men who protect their country. I don't care what anyone has to say about that.

My father's in the military, both of my grandfathers were in the military and probably longer than that. It's a tradition for my family to serve their country in whatever way they must.

If you can't tell, I think very highly of my country's soldiers.

I grew up with a very odd view of the military.

I'm from a small town so I never knew any soldiers that weren't someone from my high school who couldn't afford college.

But now my respect has increased since I met a friend who paid for med school by driving a truck through Baghdad for three years.

Whoa whoa whoa Jonesy! That's my family you're talking about! Not to mention a million and a half people! I believe that some people do things that are considered human: We don't behead people, we don't HORIFFICALLY torture people, we don't advocate the killing of certain ethnic groups. The Egyptians and Turks don't even treat terrorists as humans. War is a sad thing, but when you're fighting people who can't understand anything other than violence, then violence is the only way to respond.

I base my opinion on the individual soldiers, not soldiers as a whole.

Some soldiers can be alright, and while I disagree with their motives, I can respect them. Some soldiers have my sorrow, because they joined thinking that being a soldier was the only way to a better life. Some soldiers I hate, because they devalue the lives of others, and are fighting either for a paycheck, some disguised form of nationalism, or the sadistic desire to kill.

On a whole, I think soldiers are generally good people.

Have you ever asked yourself why they can't understand anything besides violence?

U.S. and Soviet policies during the Cold War are either partially or fully responsible for a lot of the violence and chaos we see today. The violence isn't an unprovoked response from the evilness of their hearts, but a defense mechanism to what they see as an attack on their homes.

I think US soldiers are jealous that the British army are better trained. >:
Ironic isn't it? You guys have better training than us, but we have a bigger budget?
There are a lot more of you guys to train, though.
But america has beaten the british twice.

Culture in the Middle East is saturated in blood. The extremists we fight were born in violence and therefore, violence is the only things they understand. I'm talking about EXTREMISTS, not innocent people who have no other option.

Lol wow! Loaded subject much?

I hate the war we're in, and have from the start (though since I was fourteen at the time, no one listened for some reason).

This aside, you hae to have respect for your military, because they're a bunch of guys and ladies doing what needs to be done.

Get mad at the politicians if you don't like things that are going on, I say. Leave the soldiers alone. They're braver than me, at least :D

(And unlike the politicians, they don't go skipping home to their billion dollar mansions with their family complete with fluffy pet dog no matter what decision is made. So kudos for them for actually sticking their necks out for what they believe in.)

Extremists aren't born, they're made. The Middle East is saturated in blood because the Western world has continually interfered with the Middle East. The Western world reacted with the historical equivalent of the extremism that the Middle East is reacting now, when the Ottoman Empire arose.

The extremists are drawn from the people.

Okay, yes you're correct that extremists are drawn from people, but their way of thinking is so radical, its nearly impossible to break or change them. And the Middle East was traditionally made of tribes that were always taken over by stronger powers, not necesarilly modern Western Powers. The Mongols, the Macedonians, the Romans, the Babylonians, all predate us and the British and the Soviet Union.

Idiots for joining but hot damn I'm glad they do what they do. I considered joining the marines once. Then I realized I was a pig AND I would not put up with being given orders every second of my life.

While I am not on of those people who thinks all soldiers are heroes regardless of what the individual did, I have massive respect for them and plan to join up myself after college.

They are risking their lives for the greatest country on America's planet! While I may disapprove of our current public wars, I appreciate their snackrafice and hope we can finally go public with our secret war against Canadia.
President Robert Neon, please get on this.
Sure some of them are fighting, not because they care aboot New York's country but because they are murderous jerkwads, but if is the outcome not the intent that matters.

Don't shoot the messenger who's shooting you.

That might have sounded sarcastic, but I really don't blame soldiers for what their bosses tell them to do. Remember that could very easily be YOU if a draft is enacted wherever you live.

There ain't nothing wrong with U.S soldiers that being lined up against a wall and shot in the face can't fix.
Apart from that I think they are monsters, idiots and generally the lowest form of scum around.
Case in point. What separates you from them, exactly? Very little. If you lined them up and shot them, you'd be worse than they are. So my guess is you want somebody else to kill the soldiers FOR you, in which case you'd be a coward. Unless all this is hot air.

As Frank Castle said, "You want to be me?"

Their way of thinking is no more radical than the Crusaders.

The Middle East may have traditionally been made of tribes conquered by others, but it currently sits on geopolitical divisions that come from decisions made by Western powers during World War I and World War II (Sykes-Picot, et al).

If Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Syria came in, carved up the United States, and decided that Utah should be forced in two two artificial countries, how would you expect the Americans to react? Their "way of thinking" is a product of recent, American history.
