I dunno, once I hit the 1000 post mark I guess I felt like I was actually a part of the community.
I felt the exact same way when I hit 1000 posts. I know it wasn't the case for other people but at that point I felt like I was a real part of the community and at that point I started to branch out on the site and here I am now at over 10,000 posts.

Post counts indicates the amount you've spent on the site actually doing something other than just watching threads and user group conversations.

Still, it's always semi amusing when people take post counts to actually mean something when in reality, it'd be rare for all those posts to contain something mind blowing. >.>

Depending on the post count I would say it points to a lot of time spent playing forum games. I mostly referring to the people who have been here for a year or two and have 5 digit post counts. Other than that I really don't care about it. Sure I will look at post count when I see a post that is below a certain (for lack of a better word) maturity. Other than that it is just a number.

I feel really judgemental after read this thread. I look at the post count and compare it to the join date. If it's excessive for the join date I think "Do they need to comment on everything?" or "Do they spend all their time in the forum games?" Though my judgement of thier content overrights post count judement.

I love posting for the sake of the post count. I just want Morpheus!

Its a bit embarrassing when I see someone who joined a few months later then me and has more than 1K posts when I've got less than 200.

And then I remember that I didn't post for a few months after I joined, becuase I was shy *blushes*

Clearly it correlates to the size of one's genitalia. This has been common knowledge since the inception of post counts.

I was hoping you would post in this thread, lol.
I am somewhat disappointed that Mr. 39k only said that though =/

How on-line social an individual is compared to their actual dedication to the site. For the positive, or the negative.

Doesn't really mean all that much to me. I just like seeing the number to go up. The only time I really notice it is when someone has more then 15k posts.

It means little if it's someone else's, and it's a source of mild pride and much jolting when I see my own.

Iono, something like "TREMBLE BENEATH MY POST COUNT YOU MORTAL SCUM" or "yeah, I post a lot. I am kind of a badass /glasses" or even "I sold my soul to Cthulu for more posts..." I guess? Lol

I enjoy forum games. I still check out off topic and reply to news threads. I just spend more time here than I should I guess. Post counts are just numbers in the end. :p

I still think 39k posts is impressive, even if a large portion of them are forum games.

If I someday surpass Sassafrass in count by some miracle I'll probably get an inflated ego. I just don't really care anymore. Back before I got the Neo I did. Even had a friendly race to 5000 with my friend Marter. He won the race.

Someone who posts a lot will be more familiar. That certainly counts for something. There are long-time posters who I ignore, and ones who I pay more attention to. You build a rapport.

New posters are just generally less familiar with the spirit, the trends (how many of those Mass Effect 3 threads were from relatively new members who thought they were saying something new?), and the standards. Whether it is a good thing to admit or not, I do expect less from new people. But on those occasions where a new poster does say something truly interesting, I take special note. I make sure to say, "Welcome to the Escapist" in those cases.

But it is mostly the rapport. I wouldn't say I'm friends with people here. But there are those individuals who I would miss if they left or were banned. And it's hard to build a rapport with someone with very few posts.
