What does SOCOM stand for?

I looked it up, it stands for Special Operations Command, but what is the "OM" for?

Now why is that? In all seriousness that just doesn't make much sense to only use the first letter from the 1st and 2nd word but 3 letters from the 3rd word. Though that would be pretty funny to hear over a communications link "Send in the SOC we are a go."

You might have something like 2MARDIV, which stands for 2nd MARines DIVision.
