For me it was the original Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. That game got me into the Sonic series and into gaming in general. I still own copy and a system to this day.

In the late 90's I started to get into PC gaming with Doom and SimCity but I still regularly gamed on console.

At the turn of the millennium I played Half-Life for the first time and decided to jump into PC gaming with both feet. I couldn't afford a prebuilt gaming computer but my parents had sent me to an A+ summer class where I learned to build my own. About six months after the class I had saved up enough money to build my first gaming computer. I went to LAN parties, played a lot of FPSs, RPGs, and dabbed into RTSs.

Today I own a 360 and my gaming PC and play on both regularly. Taking that A+ class helped get me into the IT industry where I currently work. If it wasn't for an interest in PC gaming I probably would have never taken that class. If it wasn't for Sonic I might not have been into gaming. The way I see it that little blue hedgehog got me to where I am today. Life's funny that way.

I'd have to say B-17 Bomber on the Intellvision - with the Intellivoice module no less. At least that's the one that comes to mind as having the biggest impact for me...

Pac-Man for my Atari 2600.... I blame my parents for my love of gaming.

And everytime they say that I should stop wasting my money on games since I am an adult now, I point out that it is their fault.

When I was in elementary school it was basically everything on the gamecube that nintendo released; LOZ: Wind Waker, That one kirby racing game, that one 3D sonic game that was also about racing, and mario sunshine. Of course I wasn't any good at them until just recently when I realized you can play them on the wii and revisited them.

I fell in love with gaming in a few stages.

In stage one, I was 4 years old and there had been a death in the family. We had a SNES with Mario Paint and Street Fighter III that I pretty much devoted my life to dealing with my Mom's subsequent depression, until we got rid of the system some 5 years later.

Flash forward to age 11, when I get my first Gameboy and discover Super Mario Bros., and eventually Pokemon Crystal (quite by accident; there was a Gameboy and Pokemon Gold at my dentist's office a few years earlier that I played for a few minutes, then spent considerable years trying to replicate that experience.)

Flash forward to age 14, when we borrowed a family friend's Gamecube while she went on vacation, and Super Mario Sunshine entered my life (we have been in love for seven years now.)

Flash forward to age 16, when I got a Gameboy Advance SP and Pokemon FireRed for my birthday (instead of a car). Eventually I got my hands on a copy of Harvest Moon: Friends Of Mineral Town, which lead to another feverish obsession.

Finally, at age 18, I got my hands on a DS Lite, and a copy of Animal Crossing: Wild World. I've been a Gamer ever since.

like many others I got started into Video games with Space invaders on the Atari. But I didn't really get into gaming proper till Super Mario. Never got very far, but it's just the game that got me started on this path.

"The Wizards Revenge" and "Granny's Garden" on the BBC Micro.

An example of the latter can be found on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt2J5dLZNRQ. Honestly. You console kiddies have got no idea how good you have it these days.

The first game I ever played was Sonic The Hedgehog, but the game that REALLY got me obsessed with gaming is FF7, I was so young, and just got hit with so much awe.
I still love the game, nostalgia glasses withstanding.
This. In its entirety.
