I think a friend told me that you could fit The Sims 2: Christmas expansion pack on his £6 Memory Stick.

Sims 2 Price: £39.99, 2.5gb
Expansion Pack Price: £10.99, 500mb.

Nice post. It I said I thought EA made the SecuROM, my bad. Either way, they are heavy users of it, heh. And I think its not anti-piracy, its anti-second hand market. Its the only explaination for there nonsensical approach to combating piracy.
I would agree with that idea. The publisher / developer only makes cash on the initial sale of the game. If the game is then traded in and resold all the cash goes straight to the seller and the publisher / seller essentially loses a potential sale.

It has to be the only reason since it is clear that DRM doesn't punish piracy and more often than not only proves to punish the legitimate buyer of the game.

You hit the nail on the head. The Battlefield series especially has terrible balance issues in their latest incarnations (eg: Medic has G36E in BF2, Soldier/Medic in 2142 has Voss + anti-personnel rockets + defib + medkit). Even then they've had hundreds of megabytes of patch come out yet they're STILL unbalanced as all hell.
Yeah EA may own DICE but how much of that is directly EAs fault? This isn't like Spore where most of the complex evolutionary stuff was cut to make it more friendly for the retard mass market. I can't really see EA standing over DICE saying make the medic or the game seriously unbalanced. It seems more likely that the faults with the BF games can be laid squarely at the feet of DICE.

Besides as we have seen in BF2 when DICE try to rejig things to make them more balanced they usually make things worse, remember the F35B used to own all then they tweaked it and now it's just J10 fodder.

Plus EA treats it emplooes like crap. They had to sue to get there overtime pay.
That was about 3-4 years ago, and they treat their employees MUCH better now. I worked at Tiburon about a year ago (the HQ of EA Sports) and it was a great job. The only reason I'm not there anymore is I wanted to go down a design path and I was a software engineer at EA. Doors opened and I moved on.

Because skate 2 was shit
really?, have you played it? or maybe do you just not like skateboarding?

even if skate 2 was bad (which its not, has flaws yes, but a bad game its far from), it would still have relevance in this post...
so your comment was practically worthless, thanks

Just because they release a new Ice Hockey or Football (Soccer) game every year does not mean that you MUST buy it! If you want the newest features, or rosters or whatever, then you'll buy the latest edition, if you're happy with your '06 version, then you'll continue to play it!

DRM? Well, that doesn't worry me as I have a console, not PC.

And EA have released some of the best games in recent history! Skate and Skate 2 anyone?

Securom? Other than that I'm not sure..... It does piss me of when they slap E.A. on games they didn't make, like L4D and Mass effect 2....

Everybody seems to slate EA these days, but I love them for their iPhone games, The Sims, Sim City. But apparently, EA is the devil..... How come?
They single-handedly killed their only rival for officially licensed NFL games, the venerable NFL 2KX series.... that was reason enough for me. Their draconian use of DRM hasn't made any new friends for them, either....

Having said that, there are many games that they at least have some small part in that I do enjoy, such as The Sims, Rock Band and Mass Effect....

EA appears to be turning the public perception corner, and Activision/Blizzard is emerging as the new "evil empire".....

EA is really quite good these days. I wouldnt have thought id of said this a few years ago but they have made some new franchises that a quite good. The developers that they aquire are allowed alot more freedom now. You have to give them credit for trying out new things.. and its working in my opinion. just people cant get over their old mentality against them.

Id perfer one FIFA game a year rather than 3-4 guitar heroes.

Oh and sure the DRM they put on spore and co. was a little excessive but consider yourself lucky most developers bother with PC, they dont make as much money off the PC port due to piracy. Look at Demigod for example.

There are several reasons:

1) DRM.
2) Countless remakes and repetitions.
3) Way too high standards for originality
and finally...
4) They are overpricing, greedy people.

Granted my time with skate 2 was fairly limited but from the 20 minutes or so of the full game (and 10 min+ of the demo) skate came off (to me anyway ) worse than it`s predecessor , which i still play every now and then to this day , as for whether or not i like skating , well these days i`m farly apathetic towards it.

Because they make crap. When they stop making crap, I'll decide whether I want to deal with their DRM or not.

Seriously, the best game to ever wear the EA label was one they only produced, and that was Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

yeah bought godfather 2. It felt rushed, thats the problem with EA, when a game just needs a bit more development time to be really good; they dont do it. It makes financial sense but not artistic sense.

apologies for (i assume) poor spelling, dylexia + IE = bad times

I'm more of a console guy myself, so DRM isn't a problem for me, and I don't care what anyone says, the NHL series has been developing immensly lately. If you compare NHL 07 and 09 they are completely different, and Fight Night and Skate are great too.
I used to hate EA too, but BF:BC, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge are awesome.

And half of the things said on this thread apply to other companies such as Capcom and Activision aswell. (Street Fighter II and Guitar Hero among others)

And stop complainig about Sims, you dont't have to play it! I don't like Sims but it doesn't bother me.

You do make a good point with the rushing though, but keep in mind, EA recently pushed back Sims 3 BECAUSE IT WASN'T HYPED ENOUGH! (lol)

So the main problems with them seem to be their use of DRM, re-releasing cloned games and their aggressive market techniques. Enough to deem them truly evil?
