Went to Ren Faire and while there I spent my money irresponsibly, and bought a very expensive but very pretty hand made wooden mug to drink my mead out of.
Was it overpriced? Entirely. I got complements on it multiple times that day though, and I'll use it on DnD nights so I'll get some pretty consistent use out of it. Plus it'll be part of my DnD costume in future years.

He was visiting from another part of the country and I wasn't home yet. He was in the basement with kids from our family and relatives. He went bowling and swung the wii mote at a rear projection DLP 50" Sony 1080p that was an expensive big deal before around 2010. Made a spider web out of the screen. There was a moment of silence, followed by all of the kids laughing their butts off. It would be another year or so before the missus let me get one of those new fangled 55" 1080p LED Visio TVs. Expensive as heck back then, but had a million inputs. Anyone really use composite or component video outputs any more?

Bought a new jacket.
It's made out of selvedge foxfiber twill, which is a special type of undyed cotton that naturally has beige, red, or green color. The cotton was grown in the US, woven into selvedge twill in Japan on hundred year old shuttle looms, and then sent back to the US to be cut and stitched into jackets. It's a really unique and beautiful material that's extremely eco-friendly and sustainable.
I'd been looking into getting a new denim jacket, and this one is extra light-weight and should be perfect for California weather pretty much year-round.
Pretty pricey, but it'll likely last me a couple of decades, so it's worth it.

Bought a new pocket knife.
It's not for myself though, it's a gift!
...except it's such a good looking and affordable knife that I also bought a second one for myself...
I have a problem.
In my defense, I don't have any knives in white, and I don't have any front-flipper knives, and this is a very classy looking gentleman's carry kind of knife, so it fits a unique carry role.

Genuinely curious, what do you do with a knife that you'd need to carry one on your person?
OT: Made the adulting-est purchase of my life so far, a new mattress and bed frame from Ikea. We've been sleeping on a couch bed, which has now deformed from overuse. It was a genuine nightmare trying to find the best mattress, since as usual, the internet is full of opinions and so called experts. So we just went with our gut and went with the most comfortable one we could find in store.
It was fun to assemble, we got a metal frame and it felt very sturdy. Even the wooden slats were beefier than I expected.

It boggles my mind that an expensive mattress would probably cost as much as buying another 4 or 5 Ikea mattresses and frames.

I’m waiting for the end of financial year sales to buy a decent mattress. Gonna cost probably $5,000 or so.

Normal things, it's just a useful tool to have. I use it practically every day. Open packaging, open mail, cut fruit, cut a loose thread off a shirt, scrape annoying stickers off things. The other day I was helping a friend move and had to cut some rope with my knife. Also, it's nice to have a knife in a car in case you're ever in an accident that requires you to break a window. Sometimes I carry a multi-tool with me instead, so I also have a pry-bar, screwdriver, level, etc. I'm the "handy" friend of my friend group so I'm often asked for help with DIY stuff. Also I hike a lot and it's nice to have a knife with you for emergencies, in case I sprain my ankle and need to make a splint or a walking stick or something.
Many years back (when 3D movies were more of a thing) a friend of mine was making fun of me for carrying a knife. We go to the movies with a group of friends, and the 3D glasses that we get are packaged in really thick plastic for some reason rather than the flimsy plastic that normally gets used. None of us can tear it open with our hands, so I pull out my knife and cut open everyone's 3D glasses, except his. He had to go to the front desk and ask them to cut the packaging open with scissors for him.
Mattresses are one of those things that you really do get what you pay for and are worth splurging on. I think I spent like $1500 on my mattress and it was worth every penny. I'll probably buy an even fancier one next time.

Update on the Macbook Neo. It arrived yesterday and its annoyingly good. Construction feels good, keyboard and track pad are really good, screen is really good and can get nicely bright, the setup process was nice and painless and took less effort then a windows 11 install where you have to use a workaround to just make a local account. The OS itself works nicely and has a bit more customization then I was expecting, still not as much as a windows machine, but enough to work with it. The battery life is very nice, beats the hell out of my old Surface, but that machine is old enough that its battery would drain after 2 days without even using it. Haven't gotten into a full setup of the Neo yet since I'm still not 100% convinced I'm keeping it, but its getting more and more likely. Very curious how it can handle games, AAA is out of the question, but it would probably run most indie games great.
