What if Skyrim is awful?

What up with the hate for Bethesda? I liked Morrowind, but I also liked Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas. My only problem with Vegas was that it crashed a bit too often and monsters often got stuck in the ground. Skyrim looks like it's going to be great.
Well New Vegas was actually developed by Obsidian and just published by Bethesda. Bethesda has been getting a lot of hate lately though. I wonder if the whole lawsuit with Mojang has to do with it.

I'd just not get it. I'm already asking for it for the holidays so I can just cross it out.

I have faith in Bethesda. And even if it does go wrong, there are still the mod tools and the community will turn it into an awesome game regardless.

I'd feel a bit furious, since I actually plan to buy this game at full price, which I very rarely do. I have faith in Bethesda though.

I'll kill myself.

I'm not kidding. Dead as a doornail.

Might take Todd with me.

Or I'll just go back to Dark Souls. Yeah. Proly that.

We won't learn a lesson about the hype-machine, and we'll just get all excited about the Next Big Thing that publishers 'accidentally' leak footage of.

It's not impossible, but Bethesda has a pretty good track record. Once they got the bug-ridden days of Daggerfall and the like behind them, they've generally delivered good, solid games in the Elder Scrolls line. Skyrim might be great, or it might be merely good, but a miserable failure would seem about as likely as a building with a properly set foundation falling down lower than that foundation.

skyrim is an iteration on Morrowind and Oblivion, which were both good. it can't be awful, it can be "not good as morrowind/oblivion", or bad, at worst. but certainly not awful, iterations just don't work that way ;)

The only thing that I'm afraid of is if (Since I'm a PC Gamer) it's a horrible console port like Rage was with the graphics issues...

Sure, everything is fixed in patches, but what if I want a game that just works right off the disk...? Hmmmmmm?

Rewind back 10-odd years and games never had an issue.... (well, never is an overstatement, but, they were a hell of a lot less frequent than today.)

I would just shrug and say "cest le vie" and then wait for mods. Getting overly stressed on a game, no matter which one it is, is not a good philosophy. It's not like I've got plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

It'll be the biggest hype disappointment since Duke Nukem Forever. I want to see the Bethesda fans and the rest of you justify that.

Then I will laugh.

It's a Bethesda game, so it might have a ton of bugs that cripple the game. I'm also expecting 4 or 5 different voice actors, along with 25 different faces to go along with them.
As many as that? Wow!

OT: Seriously though, look at Oblivion. THAT was an awful game full of bugs and immersion breaking character interactions. But I still loved it! At this point I expect Bethesda could slip a freshly laid turd in the box and we would all be quite content. Because it would be a Skyrim turd!
