Well there is "what is hell like" thread and i started thinking about heaven. It's always taken that heaven is this great place. but sometimes i wonder. i mean carnal desires are sinful so no sex. Gods light keeps it super safe so it's planet nerf with no risk. And if it's giant church in which we spend all day worshiping the god that is right there i dunno if i would consider that heaven.

All i know is, if heaven doesn't have a personal holodeck and a fast internet connection i dunno if it's as great as it's made out to be.

***okay these captchas with the 5 degree rotated shadow behind a word have to stop, looking at them is giving me a headache.
Heaven is a mansion filled with videogames and hot oriental chicks.

oh, and the recapcha thing only needs one word, the blurry one, you can put whatever you want for the other word :)

Actually that is a lot like some Atheist's depiction of death. Trapped with no emotion, no thought, and no identity? For eternity? That is depressing, and horrific. No one should be subject to that.
Well no, its not. Atheism has nothing to do with the topic. Extrapolating ideas from a naturalistic world view however, when you die, that's it. You don't think anymore, you don't feel anymore. You're just gone. Death is the end of you.

Buddhism is much the same way, only they believe you get another chance.

Heaven is what my dreams have been as of late, me being in a word besieged by creature that devour human souls and i'm a member of a military organization set on destroying them and bring about world peace.....yeh don't sound like heaven but it is to me cause i get into battle with giant ass monsters using magic and that, i live in the richest district of Rukon with my sister, her maid and a friend and there's a Pizza Hut joint down the street

Well TV makes it seem cheesy as hell.
Church makes it seem boring as hell.
And, I don't believe in it, so hell.

EDIT:
I believe in Mr. Grieves. Send for a man in the middle. One that talks like doolittle.

Boring. Anything for eternity would get old. Unless the deities that be would alter your state of thinking or perception, like taking away Knowledge in a Garden of Eden kind of way- but seriously, fuck that. Then apparently youre dealing with deities that want nothing more than subjects to praise them and care nothing about what it really means to be human.
Not necessarily. If your eternity gets old, you're doing it wrong. For example, what if your personal heaven was to live in a world like this one? Except be a god or a citizen? Is living in Mass Effect's world boring?

Heaven isn't boring, the people's ideas of it are. It's what you make of it, just like minecraft.

EDIT: Besides, if its your heaven you should be able to dick around and change it. Unless Heaven is owned by Sony of course or they will sue you with their lawyer angels.
I guess my point is that there is no end. Why would I ever want to live eternally in some form of consciousness. There's no closure, there's no depth or substance to just endlessly living in whatever exotic world you can imagine. Fun for awhile but everything has an ending. Everything, even the stars are made up of matter that is on loan to the cosmos.

I like to think that I only have one life to live, and to live it to the furthest extent. Dealing with the end is hard, but I would rather face a definitive end rather than have some false hope in something that I have no real reason to believe is true.

Imaginary. It doesnt exist.
However, to answer the question, what I've felt it is, or should be is a place where you can do anything you want and create your own 'worlds'. Like you could create a Halo game where its like real life (or the best virtual reality possible) and play with your friends and when someone 'dies' in the game they just appear on the sidelines waiting for hte next round. Or just randomly decide you want to relax on a beach and do so for a few hours, then immediately appear on a ski hill if you want. Have your own fantasy RPG style world appear and adventure in it for a lifetime, whatever you can imagine. Its the only way paradise could not end up being so boring you go insane.

I'm not sure what Heaven is like but I can tell you what its not like. Best way to do this is merely stand up and look around you.

I heard that heaven is a place of pure contentment. You spend eternity in a state of the most exalting happiness, to degrees that you haven't ever felt before, and you won't ever become sensitized to this happiness; day 100000 will be just as awesome as day 1.

That's one theory. Another is that you're given a world that is an absolute utopia, and within that every one of your greatest loves exist. You don't need to sin becuase every true passion you have is right there.

The last thing I've heard is that you're given heaven to enjoy and what not, but you can also decide to reincarnate yourself as any new child (memory of heaven lost, of course) if you wish to spend 90 years of that eternity as human again (and given that you were good enough to go to heaven the first time, you'll make it back there again when you finish that life).

But clearly none of us are at a position to draw specific conclusions, so I'll just say that Heaven is like playing you're first video game and discovering how awesome they are, and hell is being stuck with the likes of Too Human for all eternity.

Okay, first to collect an initial error of yours. Sex is not inherently sinful, but (from the Christian perspective, as is the rest of the coming rant) WE are. Rape, adultery, and prostitution are sins, sex is not.

Moving on from that nitpick.

While Revelations tells what the caapital city of the next Earth, New Jerusalem, will be like, Revelations really doesn't say anything else about the afterlife. Also, I get the distinct impression that the plane the angels currently reside on and the "heaven" we'll be going to are two different planes. So it's not that we move to God's plane (which is silly; they're ALL his planes) but that his new throne will rest in the capital city of the next Earth.

Also, I hope we still have human bodies. It says we get new bodies, but I always figured it meant we'd be restored to the way Adam and Eve were. Also, Jesus says things that make it sound like there won't be marital partnerships in heaven. I don't know if that's exactly what he means, partly due to translation doubts, but that MIGHT mean since marriage is gone so is sex. And that would be sad, but maybe in heaven we'll have something better only extraplanar beings previously got to do.

I say the biggest reason the Faith suffers as much as it does is exactly that all the "decent" churches are mediocre and all the "other" churches go the fanatical route. Thaat is quite simply why I don't go, it has done more for me spiritually to discuss texts with friends than sitting in a drafty pew ever has.

I'm a Pastafarian, so when I go to heaven I'll be greeted by a beer volcano and a stripper factory.

My guess, full of clouds, always spring, and I figure you can run around naked and get sex no matter much of a loser you are. Or it just be like the last part of Monthy Python's The Meaning of Life.

Heaven to me is a place filled with amazing breath-taking landscapes. The sun gives off a slight warmth against your skin, the wind breezes softly and the grass field is like a pillow. You see your loved ones, smiling at you, giving you a hug for your life has finally ended but now even though you are dead in the real world, you begin a new one. You never die, you're never sick, you are just perfectly contented. When those that you've loved in the real world have died, you welcome them to join you with a smile on your face.

Whoa got a bit emotional there, but yeah... that's how I view my Heaven to be like.

heaven sounds bad really... without bad there is no-way to be good. without danger and sins etc, life is boring. sure be a good person but life sucks if you live to the letter of the law. (not to say break laws... just bend them)

im not religious but the bible doesn't paint a nice picture of god really. it says he is merciful and compassionate right after it explained that he killed everyone.

im not mocking anyones beliefs but it seems kind of weird how god can disobey his own laws just because we did. As far as i know he is the biggest sinner i have ever heard of.

I found this a long time ago... I believe in the whole reincarnation cycle. This just makes sense as to WHY it would be that way, assuming there is some mythical invisible man pulling the strings of life.
