My accent is NOT the Brummie one, but always gets mistaken for it because I live at the back end of nowhere an hour or so away from Birmingham. The term people have coined for my accent is "Yam-Yam", because when people with my accent talk quick, words take on a whole new sound. Or it could just be laziness.
Eg. "You are" becomes "Yow am". "Key" becomes "Kay". I know; it's awful.
Either way, I've learned that if I want to be taken seriously in any sort of professional capacity I need to tone it down a tad. Yam-Yam isn't a name I like, but it's apt, because it sounds as retarded as the accent does.
If you're wondering what it sounds like just listen to Noddy Holder or any other member of Slade talking. You'll soon see...
