Changing Biomes

I could probably come up with more but these are the biggys for me. I love the game though.
Uh, I would be wary with the "more mobs" comment. Might I suggest you take a look at Rob Moran's Series "Super Minecraft"?

http://www.urealms.com/minecraft/minecraft1.html
I think I should have specified, the problem with that mod is the Mob Density, not the variety. I want more Variety.
Well, again though, you run the risk of making a good game perhaps a bit too ridiculous. Take the mining zombies. That would ruin a lot of the fun of minecraft if the zombies could tunnel into your home.
The mining zombie breaks a rule thats universal in minecraft, once your in your house/shelter your safe, its only when you live your house that you risk something, but you risk it in the hopes of getting something out of it.

Mobs like bears, lions, birds ect would ad aesthetic value, to the game as well as making more discoveries available.

Third person view. It sounds like a lot to ask for and really, who would want to see the blocky back to their character? But Minecraft in FPS mode makes me extremely dizzy. DOOM dizzy. I believe if the thing was put in third person, and a little bit of work was some with the camera, this would solve the issue.
Press F5 in-game. You're welcome.

Erm, yeah: what that guy on the first page said about RPG elements. Not like quests and stuff, but an economic system as suggested would be nice. As others have said, a way to quickly get around, the ability to set your spawn point at will, some sort of goals system (although FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST don't tag arbitrary points onto them like gamerscore), some way to tell if you're getting near to ore (a craftable metal detector, perhaps)... yeah, that's about all.
Wow, I'm oblivious aren't I? Thanks.

I'd really like some system of getting rid of excess materials. After a lot of mining the majority of my inventory spaces seem to be filled by cobblestone and gravel and i'd rather not have 50 chests sitting around full of rocks.

But for reals, more types of blocks. Like different type of stone, more arrow types and better SMP support.
Can you stop advertising that? The last Minecraft thread had it too.

What it needs is to be free because it's well below the standards of a priced game. Indie games are pretty much MEANT to be free.

There is one. A furnace above a minecart in crafting makes one.

Heh, there's absolutely no indication in-game that pressing the function keys does anything, it's easy enough to miss.

A map showing the players current location (and depth from surface). And to anybody wanting to suggest mods or programs, kindly go...cartograph yourself.

A trapdoor mechanism. 1) it would make my castle of doom seem much more intimidating. 2) it's a handy defense. 3) for teh lulz.

Some sort of metal detector. All it has to do is beep when iron ore is within three/four blocks, cuz searching can get pretty damn annoying sometimes.

Some biome dependent mobs would be nice, like polar bears or penguins in snow, or bears in tundra.

A chemical workbench. Just some way of making gunpowder and dyes without having to kill a billion and one creepers.

Some sort of flying contraption. Don't care if I have to construct it out of diamonds, I just want to fly.

I hear tell of it needing a more reliable updater, but I know Notch is a busy guy, so I don't subscribe to that school of thought.

Personally, I'd like to craft people. Be able to make myself an actual world with people to talk to and things to do. It'd also be great for trolling multiplayer servers, just drop an NPC in and let everyone think it's real. I mean, everyone is already using Minecraft to replicate video game worlds, why not add people and replicate the entire game? I'm sure crazier things have been done.

I also would like some way of creating a map, perhaps it could be made from taking a metric fuck-ton of paper (9 pieces), and putting them together, and then having a craftable pen that you can carry with you and as you walk, you fill out the map until you run out of space... at which point you open a workbench, put the map in the middle, and put 8 more pieces of paper around it to enlarge it, and continue on your merry way. Eventually the map would get really goddamn big, but if Notch can make it save a world 8 times the size of Earth in surface area in 3D, I think he can make a customizable topographical map of the same thing in 2D. Because let me tell you, I'm really goddamn tired of loosing my way while looking for more resources, finding it to be nighttime, and getting murdered. I'd like to know where I'm going, get there, and return to my mountaintop fortress.

Telescope or binoculars, I have no idea how the monsters are getting in to my base. I built a 15-20 box high wall around my entire base, lit everything up with lava and candles to get rid of spawn points. But I still find them. So I built platform the highest it could be in the game so I could watch my base to see where they are. But it's too high and I can't see anything, and anything lower and I can't see what I need. I have render far on, I just need a telescope.

And this, I've been using boosters to simulate the same thing but resetting them requires coal and a powered cart.

taller (space?, dig to hell?, build your way to the moon?)
the full list of simple machines (so we can make our own complicated machines)
large contiguous moving blocks (like if you could actually start putting multiple pieces of wood in water and make a boat)
proper fluid physics
more mob variety

do that, and you can make dam near anything in minecraft
i just want this

now, what may actually get implimented that i cant wait for, zombie siege, adventure/dungeons (yes, i know there are player made dungeons, and yes the are awesome, i just want more), a story, proper multiplayer
and a more varied map generator (be able to make the surface be at height 96 (75%) instead of 64 (50%), and the other way around, a map of giant caves/massive mountains would be epic
or ocean worlds
or hellish worlds (basically reduce plants, make lava more common, increase the min light that monsters can spawn, etc, basically a mix between the nether and normal)

of all those things, i really want simple machines to be added, the sheer volume of things that can come from that (not simple) addition would make this game beat all

Fix the SMP multiplayer!

That is all, although, more game modes would certaintly help. Seriously, all I got is Zombiecraft!

I really like minecraft, here are some suggestions for changes:

A torch that you can hold for light
A helmet with a flashlight on it (also for light)
Monsters that attack/appear during the day
Footsteps that sound different (so that your footsteps are different than that of creepers, skeletons or zombies)
Removing the footstep sound from squids
Add bats in caves
Add a way of blocking arrows other than with your face (shield?)
Change the way swords function so that swinging a stone sword is slower, and others are faster (wooden swords being the fastest)
Drawbridges
Walls that spiders can't climb
Better functioning traps
Guns, Crossbows, Slings, Blunderbuss, something besides a bow for a ranged weapon
NPCs/Creatures that you can recruit/tame to stand guard at fortifications
Fighting between monsters (only happens with skeletons it seems)
Bigger workbenches
Schematics that you can acquire through adventure for dig machines or machines that will do work for you while you go adventuring into the depths of the earth.
An underworld mode where you begin the game deep underground, possibly as the survivor of a mining team with a limited supply of torches/equipment, death means you lose for good (unless you make it to the surface.)

I think that's enough ideas.

Burn it. Start a fire, find some lava, drop your shit into it. Or just go out and drop it in the wild, it will disappear after a while.

OT: I'd like to see more uses for gold. So far, only 1 practical use (the watch) which is very limited as there are plenty of ways to tell whether it's night or day when you're underground.
I think making a lantern out of 1 glowdust between four gold ingots would be awesome. A lantern in the sense that as long as you are holding it out, it lights around you. Would be good for moving around without having to place torches, but would run you the risk of having mobs spawn behind you.

A guy on these forums once suggested naturally occuring sandstone pyramids, somewhat similar to the dungeons we have now. I think that would be sweet. Adding mummies would be cool, too, or just anything to mix up the desert environment.

A use for Bookcases would be cool, too. I know of the mod that lets you bring up a random quote by right-clicking them, but something more than that. Not sure what, though.

More records for the jukebox, and maybe a way to make them. I have two gold records so far, yet after finding at least six dungeons in my current world I have no green ones. Feels bad, man. Especially 'cause the gold one is creepy as hell.

Trap doors would be cool, too. And pillars of stone. While the "putting fences on top of eachother" method is cool, it looks stupid if you have a stone bridge that you'd like to not be so gravity-defying.

Also, lastly, fruit trees. Same as regular trees, only their leaves would occasionally drop fruits like apples (why are they so rare?!) when destroyed, and leaves would regrow.

EDIT: Someone wrote it before me, a friggin' metal detector. Requiring both metal, gold and redstone (and a stick or two) would be friggin' awesome. Have it make a differently pitched ticking noise when you get close to iron, gold or redstone. I doubt the rest could be classified as "metals".

Lastly, although I detest the idea of pets in minecraft, I want to be able to train pigs to find mushrooms. Like, if you put a saddle on them and ride them, they'd automatically go into "truffle mode" and if there are any mushrooms within a 128 block radius (on the surface or in caves with surface openings) they'd start going there. That. Would. Be. SWEET!

A story mode. Last time I checked there wasn't one. I'd like to have some goal to guide my mindless jabbering besides "think of some ridiculous thing to build and do it."

It needs everything that Dwarf Fortress has in it. Primarily machinery, vastly expanded wildlife, goblin/monster attacks, creature lairs, trading, more rocks and metals, and towns.

Maps, either drawn in the game or buyable or both.

I think procedurally generated schematics for special items would be cool, it would add a reason to travel far and wide to find or trade for both the schematics and the materials.

1) Being able to build vehicles

Someone here on this thread suggested being able to make a larger crafting grid to make more complex items. Here's some of those more complex items. Make some combination of iron, gunpowder, and redstone into engines, wheels, rotors, control systems, etc... and fashion these into cars, boats, and helicopters.

2)GIVE ME A PURPOSE FOR JUNK MATERIALS

The chestfuls of dirt I've collected are absolutely worthless unless I plan on making another continent in the middle of the sea. Someone here suggested adding a currency system and an in-game economy of some kind, and this would be a good way to deal with this. A redstone contraption that would be much more effective than a simple circuit or a record player is a vending machine, a place to exchange blocks of material for coins and vice versa.

This could also be accomplished by giving these items a purpose. Dyes are pointless, at least for me, so give me another thing to do with cactus flesh, bones, and lapis lazuli. Also, perhaps you could throw dirt in a furnace and get ... say ... fertilizer to help wheat and trees grow faster.

3) Variety

This isn't as much of a concern, as there's already plenty of variety to be had for items in the game, but it could be better. Rubber, for instance, could be collected from special trees and could be made into tires for those vehicles they better be working into the game. Speaking of trees, make foliage from the trees into a collectible material and throw it in the furnace to create compost, a dirt substitute that makes plants grow faster (add that fertilizer for near-instant growth). Also, they could add slate for roofing tiles, more biodiversity amongst the various animals of the land, and there's never too many different mobs to fight

i know let the game randomly generate villages like huts and stuff and you could take control of them and have them do different stuff like gather wood reproduce and if not controlled they would build more huts turn them from mud to wood to rocks and them become hostile if attacked(only for single player)

Build an incinerator using lava that you can throw your unwanted items into.

Personally, the first thing that comes to mind now is using the wheat item to make some form of wicker block.
