I remember in COD4 my friends and I played people would would lob grenades so they would somehow kill pretty much all of us as we spawned in the beginning of the game. Noobtubing was also pretty damn awful. From what I hear, MW2 is worlds worse as far as stupid tactics and cheap weapons.

Out of curiosity, what is the Modern Warfare 2 "nuke" or the "throwing knife," and all of these other nuances that are always brought up? I've played some of the single player, but never the online so I can only imagine how bad it is.

nuke is when you get a 25 killstreak (25 kills without dying), and it ends the game and wins your team the game no matter what, however most people get them from either boosting (having a friend be on the other team and you killing him 25 times in a secret corner) or by being a douche camping with a noobtube and using helicopter gunner (literally control a helicopter gunner and have red squares pop up around every opposing team member) so its a spawn rape/whole field rape basically.

throwing knife? those aren't a big deal, they actually take a somewhat skilled person to use, i think you mean "knifing" which is when you combine the perks "commando+lightweight+infinite sprint" and you basically can teleport knife anyone within 25 feet of you, and it doesn't help that most of the maps are designed within 25 foot ranges and the lag gives the knifers advantages. so yeah it really sucks, and is very annoying especially when you "shoot" them a good 5-6 times in the chest and it does nothing apparently.

beyond that, noobtubes, akimbo shotguns,(hell shotguns in general in that game) plus a few others are super OP tactics that get very tiresome.

and as you know, in any online game everyone is an overcompetitive douchebag.

OT: the most OP tactic? i hate spawn camping, especially when the developers picked horrible spawn points that are in the exact same spot so the enemy team can demolish the 1/10th of the map that you spawn at.

and just about any other OP weapon ever made. its usually very obvious what the OP weapons are about after a week or so online and its the douchers who use them always.

Not letting me win. Totally unfair and uncalled for.
What fucking douchebags. They're no-lifer ass holes. I had one do it to me the other day. I may have been doing bad but come on! That is no reason not to let me win.

Marauders and Marines from Starcraft 2. Fucking rape everything you can throw at them that early on in the game.
The M&M rush can definitely be annoying, but far from invincible. Go quickly for Speed Zerglings and Banelings and you should be fine, just be sure you are in a good position to counter the inevitable Medivacs that follow.

Protoss is a little trickier, but a well-micro'ed Zea/Sentry/Stalker mix should do the trick. Forcefield is your friend, divide and conquer.

Ah, this brings back (unpleasant) memories...SOCOM: Combined Assault for the PS2. Multiplayer. Two spawn campers with Tanks. I'm the only one on my team with the presence of mind to choose a different spawn point than where the Tanks are at. Later, I'm the only one that thought to bring an AT4 and use the Combat Roll button.

*sigh* THAT was an embarassing round...I never played with that clan again. I went and formed my own, and the entry requirement included a clause about that: "If I get spawn-camped, I will pick a different spawn point. If that doesn't work, I'll remember to use the Combat Roll to try and get away. Under no circumstances will I stand still or circle-strafe while firing wildly, hoping for a lucky kill or to make the attacker go away - that's just not going to work."

For all of those familiar with the recent state of the multiplayer over there, this took place before all of the Code-Niners and Grenade Bullet cheaters showed up. Don't even TRY to play SOCOM: Combined Assault multiplayer now...it's just not worth it. That stuff was the death of my clan...

i use a knifing class like that but i didnt know you could lunge that far. i do agree tyhat most nukes are illegitemate and my friend has only gotten one legitimate one and the chopper gunner accounted for 8 of his kills...that game is so unfair that i blatantly refuse to play it online, because when someone keeps spawn camping you if you play online you cant reach your arm out and hit them in the back of the head for being an ass.

In Firearms, a mod for Half-Life, if one could put a mortar beacon at the exit to the opposing team's base, a pair of people operating mortars could keep up a rain of fire that kept the team from escaping. What's more, on most servers there was no friendly fire so spawn raping would rapidly ensue.

The only one that persists beyond any one game that I loathe is Spawn Trapping.

I mean, fucking seriously! I just hate games that have set spawn areas that people abuse to no end. BC2 isn't bad in this regard (Because when I play, I get matched up with people with senses of justice, seeing as they aren't on MW2), and Halo usually has spawn points all over the map to counter this. But there's nothing that makes me angrier in online play than spawning, walking forward and being shot by someone making sure our whole team is unable to act.
Ask any good multiplayer shooter player(especially someone who plays COD domination) and they will tell you getting a good spawn-trap is essential. However, being able to insta-kill people as they spawn is usually a sign of a bad game.

Modern Warfare 2, in free-for-all. Sitting in a building with claymores set up at the doors and the scavenger perk, that is until someone catches on and ends it with a well-placed grenade.

I know. Most of my friends are CoD addicts that play using Spawn Traps and such. It's just that I don't find it fun on either end. If I'm spawning and unable to do anything, why bother playing? And if my enemy can't do anything, why bother playing? It's a play to win strategy and I prefer to play for fun.

Marathon, Lightweight, Commando, 44. Magnum Tac Knife & H&K UMP45 silenced.

That's the main reason I don't play MewTwo anymore.

Aimbot or other hacks.

Or having one of your friends go on the otehr team and screw them over, happened a few times in DotA, it was so lame.

I'm unfamiliar with that one, could you elaborate?

On topic: Excessive horse archers in Rome: TotalWar
On the Port Valdez level, for instance since it has an Apache for the defenders, someone gets in the chopper, flies over to the attacker spawn point and then circle-strafes around the spawn area. With a good gunner they can simply decimate the attackers without the attackers having a chance to go after the M-Com stations. Plus, they use missiles to destroy any vehicles that might be able to shoot them down. That leaves only engineers with the ability to attack the choppers, but its extremely difficult to do.
Not impossible, but very hard since the Apache moves so fast and can easily move out of the way of ground-fired anti-TANK missiles. It can completely ruin what was a good game since a good pilot/gunner team won't give you a chance to move from the spawn area before they mow you down.
Call me a whiner, but once someone starts doing that I leave the match.
(Before you call me a noob and tell me to fuck off back to MW2, since everyone on the EA forums does exactly that when someone brings up the Cheater Loop and points to it being unrealistic, I'm not comparing BC2 to MW2. I'm just saying its extremely annoying.)
all you need to do is hit it with a tracking dart and then its an easy kill, granted that got a lil harder since the dart shoots slower now but its still possible, really after that if you just have on person on the aa gun you can kill the chopper before it can do anything or get a sniper in a good spot and they can call down arty on the chopper before it takes off
