Never had a problem with iTunes, unlike Windows Media Player which had a shuffle that kept playing the same handful of songs way too frequently for it to be random, and winamp which seems to struggle while other things on my computer are running.

This.

Back when I had my third Ipod, I could not for the life of me figure out how to put music onto it without downloading every single damn song anyone in my house owned.

There is no "Select and drag to ipod" mindless easy task that I could have used.

Yeah I've seen a couple people on this site profess hatred for Itunes. The only thing I don't like about it is that it take quite a long time to open.

Weather it be on my PC or Mac, it's slow and always trying to open. That's why I don't like iTunes...but I do like my iPod, so I'm fucked.

Indeed, although simply checking the songs you wanted and then syncing works fine...

iTunes is fine, just that it has some flaws and you have to be very smart.

I don't know, but i've had some problems with it and so has some of my friends.

1. It copies song (I once had 3 of all my songs suddenly)
2. It "cuts" song so the song stops at a weird point.
3. I can't even open it.. Everytime I try to open it it wants to install, except when my iPod plugged in..

So, yeah.. I still need it for my iPod though I don't like it that much.

For the record, there is such a setting. When you plug in your iPod, click on the device in iTunes. On the main page is a checkbox that reads "Manually manage music and videos". Clicking that will give you the drag and drop you want.

My issue with iTunes is the mov thing for movies. Apple needs to get with the program here. AVI won, Apple. It's the most common goddamn format out there. I'm sick of having to convert all my shit to mov because you guys can't be bothered to make friends with a real video format.

Also, I will say that it took me for goddamn ever to get my music into a state where iTunes likes it. I probably spent something like 10 hours messing with settings, deleting everything from iTunes, reloading it all, fixing errors in the import, deleting it all again, etc...

Now that I've done that, though, whenever I rebuild my system, I just copy my Music folder over, point iTunes to that directory, and it gets everything set up on the first try with no duplicates or converted files or missing cover art. Took forever though.

Well, the fact that apple only let's you sync your ipod to one computer at a time insted of adding the music from one libray to another. And you can't slow down or speed up the music, which is slightly annoying. Regardless, it's only minor annoyences anyway, I can manage.

I have a pretty powerful [http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/pE4nsTqBs0j1Fuc5xGFDCKg6C_9CHoojRJtJjgUwjYA?feat=directlink] computer.

I can run Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on it's absolutely highest settings.
I can edit images that are 2GB large in Photoshop without the slightliest piece of lag or stuttering.
I can edit music professionally with 24 simontanious instruments (tracks) without experiencing any significant latency.

I can even play CRYSIS at the highest setting (something I made a YouTube video series [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co8YQxZoR0k] of) *AND* capture the footage at 1080p on the fly with FRAPS.

I can't use iTunes without experiencing significant stuttering, ridiculous lag, insultingly long loadtimes and lockups.
iTunes - on PC at least - is amongst the most horrid bloated piece of software ever to be created for the PC platform. It installs 5 pieces of software without even asking when installing iTunes (QuickTime, iPod Manager yadda-yadda-yadda) and it doesn't even bother telling me this.

Oh Steve Jobs, you are so funny when you claim FLASH on Mac is bad.
Ever tried your own piece-of-shit software on a PC before?

Oh and I use WinAmp to manage my iPod.

I don't mind itunes, but I wouldn't use it if I didn't need it for my ipod. It's slow to start, it doesn't have any synergy with windows, it can't play many media file types, and many other minor fallbacks. I would use a different player for simply listening to music on my PC, but I'd rather deal with itunes and its problems than manage two separate music player libraries.

At least the things I find most annoying can be disabled in the options, like the store I will never buy from or the automatic updates I do not need.

Nothing, I use it all the time and like it very much. It has a bad habit of deleting my music though xD

Its poorly written.
iTunes hogs resources, processor time and worst of all it does not support FLAC(if i remember right).

It's pretty damn slow and it does like to try and make you install Safari, Bonjour and all sorts of other things. Plus you can only really use iPods with it, and it can be temperamental in detecting said iPod. Nor can you use lossless file types, it's all mp3 and mp4.

It also hates that I use Songbird to listen to music, every time I open it I have to tell it I don't want to make it my default player, no matter how many times I tell it not to ask me again. It's like a clingy ex-girlfriend.

It's poorly optimised on PC, isn't a particularly good or flexible music player and the fact that it's essentially required if you want to properly manipulate the songs on an iPod really rankles.

That is...simply an amazing line.

OT: I've yet to find a problem with Itunes aside from it taking a minute to start the program. After that it's all smooth sailing and easy listening.

I love that.

Yeah, it's Apple. Therefore, simple, closed, looks 10 years old, is prone to bugs, and takes up way too much processing power. It sucks to play games and listen to music when you have iTunes.

Plus, I always had to install random crap to update it.

"Oh, you want to update your iTunes? Here, have some Safari and Bonjour and Quicktime!!! No, you NEED IT!"

It's like going to a grocery store for milk and they make you buy a 100-pack of eggplant-flavoured condoms with everything. They're completely unrelated to the milk, you're never going to use them, they take up unnecessary space, and it's embarrassing if someone ever finds them. Then instead of milk, you get 35% fat cream.

I prefer the 2% milk of Winamp. At least it asks me if I want the box or not, and I can add however much fat and flavour to the milk that I want via plugins.

It's not terrible - it's certainly functional, at least. I don't like the layout though - my iPod has an excellent interface, why can't the software? Still, its main purpose is to sync with the iPod, which works.

When it comes to audio programs: foobar2000 for the win. Used to have Winamp for years, but it's utter crap really, once you get used to foobar. I bet my hat there's a component to it allowing you to manage your music with your iPod and so on.

My only problem with iTunes is that the audio quality for the songs they sell is too low. At least for me to buy anything from there.
