I'm an IT Technician in the Royal Air Force (though I am jacking that in very soon). I am looking at becoming a teacher after I leave as well. I also don't particularly like video games.

Not to sound big-headed, but one of the reasons I love this site is Yahtzee/Ben, because he refuses to like a game just because it's the next big thing. I buy them all the time, so the industry is happy with me, but very few of them do I actually enjoy. I own Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite & Batman: Arkham City, but I wouldn't put any of them in my Top 10 (though I appreciate what all the fuss is about). It's also very, very rare I actually finish a game these days.

Rarely game online (Battlefield 3 is my only online vice) and I actually own several games I have never even played.

But, the occasional gem pops up, so I guess I'm still looking for the one game that rings my bell!

Oh, and I own a NES, SNES, Wii, 3DS, 2 original Game Boys (one of which I purchased in Tokyo) and have a power mushroom on my keyring, but wild horses couldn't drag me to buy a fucking WiiU.

I cook. Rather a lot actually. I didn't really see it as a hobby or talent until recently, when I started telling people about cooking and got lukewarm, and occasionally hostile responses.
Can you believe some people don't want to cook?!

I'm also into history and etymology, especially centered around medieval Northern Europe and the British Isles.

Madness. What sort of stuff do you cook? Also, who is hostile about it?! Are you especially young or something? At my age, it's not unusual to have an hour-long conversation about cheese.

Sports, yeah I know not very original.

Follow primarily American football and Hockey. I also follow soccer whenever the World Cup rolls around.
Not too long ago I did Marital arts and Fencing in college and soccer whenever there was the random group of people who felt like playing the sport. I also like rock climbing

I want to say Airsoft, but considering the popularity of COD games this hobby would probably do more to associate me with the stereotype.

There's also plastic model kits, but people would probably immediately associate that with Warhmammer, and the fact that I also build Gundam models (Gunpla) won't do much to distance me from the stereotype.

EDIT: Oh yeah I can also cook and I actually enjoy it. Bell peppers and beef, pork chops, fried rice, beef curry, chicken Parmesan. Nothing fancy, but definitely requires more effort than Ramen and a cup of hot water.

EDIT: I'm also an airplane enthusiast. Flew a couple of times and even tired to get a pilot license once (failed unfortunately).

I also have a bit of an interest in insects and spiders. This was more of a hobby when I was a kid as I loved catching them, but even today I still like to study them.

I also study war history, well specifically wars of the 20th century.

I have multiple visible tattoos and piercings, I am a huge metalhead and split my clothes between metal band shirts and geek/game/nerd wear. I go to 15 or more concerts every year at minimum. I have a large collection of firearms as well as medieval weaponry as well as more modern weapons. I ride a big cruiser motorcycle and I almost always wear combat boots ever since I left the service. I love Hockey and spend a lot of time watching it with my son and my wife who are also huge fans.

I tend to the snails living in the garden with a watering can and I read. The most mainstream thing I do is possibly that I own a mac and I do not hate it. Much.

I don't want to cook... Especially after my last attempt at cooking a steak resulted in my eyebrows nearly getting scorched off, burn marks on the walls and floor, AND the fire alarm going off T_T

We have to break stereotypes now?
I honestly can't think of anything. Gaming these days isn't nearly as socially unacceptable as it used to be so I say "Why hide it?" It's what i enjoy. I frequently crack out Catan in my college common room. People laugh but i don't really care because the people I hang out with are all like minded.
Another thing that confuses me is why are we asking this? I don't think anything "breaks" the stereotype because honestly, gamers are the most diverse people I've ever met. I myself have a lot of interests outside games (I write for instance, make my own terrible games and so on) but the majority of non-gamers i know have probably one interest, maybe a second that they're keeping secret lest anyone find out that the sporty jock collects Sylvanian Families.

My two favorite hobbies (other than video games, of course) are powerlifting and Brazilian jiujitsu, two things that might argue rather strongly against the stereotype of the skinny unathletic shut-in gamer :p

And I suppose my job (doctorate in neuroscience and professor at a medical school) is one that suggests I should be "above such nonsense" like standing up and yelling in triumph at my TV when my State of Decay character finally won a brutal battle of attrition against a juggernaut zombie (like I did last night, my wife ROFL'ed).

Then again, I have several colleagues who think weights and BJJ are, to put it politely but very passive-aggressively, "base pursuits," and I suspect they'd look at me quite differently if they knew games were also part of the equation ;-)

^^^ Just goes to show that even highly intelligent people can be just as big of judgmental ****heads as anyone...

(edit)

Read the rest of the thread, thought of one that's pretty non-stereotypical - and this is one that I'd bet will garner me some bad feelings from some folks as a knee-jerk reaction, but bear with me: I was president of my fraternity back in the day in college.

Yeah, the stereotype of fraternity guys is big dumb drunken jocks who are always one iota away from being rapists - well, the stereotype of those guys is about as accurate as the stereotypes of gamers (or anyone else, really). Out of 100+ guys I don't recall any who were true alcoholics, nor do I remember anyone being accused of assault (sexual or otherwise). Yeah, we had some hardcore jocks (football and baseball players at LSU, serious athletes indeed), and a couple guys who drank too much and studied too little, but on the whole not really any different from any average group of college guys.

Bringing it back to the OP - at the time I was there, my room was THE most popular room in the frat house, not because I had all the good porn or good liquor or whatever - I had the SNES with Madden, Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter 2, etc. :) Even in the late 80's/early 90's, most of the guys there (athletes included) were enthusiastic gamers. Many got into things like Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Mega-Man, etc., not just the sports games...

Music. Writing, Playing, Recording, Producing, Gigging, and just listening to music. Any genre, I just bloody love music. I quite enjoy pool, snooker, darts and generally pubbing it with a few mates as well.

I spend most my time at a mates place doing something musical or watching a movie or two.

Martial arts--I've been involved in karate, krav maga, and street fighting.

I was also an infantryman and combat medic for a bit, but that's more of a job than a hobby.

You sound exactly like me.

As for me, I guess the biggest stereotype breaking hobby would be... Um... I read a lot? I write books too? ... Uh, no, that's all pretty normal introverted stuff. I'm becoming a crazy cat lady? I garden? Hmm.

Actually, I think I am an actual stereotype.

If FPS Russia had an Irish Cousin with less money,
that'd be me :)
I shoot IPSC,not professionally(I suck at tactical movement tbh,and have been scolded on youtube for standing in the wrong place(the middle of a doorway for example in one of my vids, although that was 8 years ago and I've improved a LOT since)
but I'm as happy and useful with a SPAS 12 in real life as I am in a game,in fact a lot of the comments on my spas 12 Youtube vids were from COD players either saying genuinely funny stuff (HAXXOR!,etc) or actively dribbling about me being a noob because they don't like the gun ingame, either way it makes me laugh,I also write, produce and Rap some hardcore to political style hip hop, which is also on youtube,in fact I genuinely wasn't gonna do this cause this isn't a cheap promo post, but what the hell,I value my fellow Escapist's opinions so here's my(soon to be updated) Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/schiz0phren1c
let me know what you think(of my music more than my shooting,I was a very amateur shooter at the time, just having a blast(bdum tish)with some Army buddies of mine from South East Asia, but my music, well, not to be big headed, but not so amateur in my opinion...and a few others.)
