My gamer breaking stereotypes are working out and cooking. Because after all, all gamers are fat blobs that will not eat anything that doesn't come prepackaged. hahaha lulz.

I'm a music producer/composer and audio engineer. I actually spend more time with music than gaming as of late (which, honestly, is a as it should be.) Here's some of the instrumentals I've made recently. https://soundcloud.com/vic-torius-rva

I enjoy playing sports, running, swimming, snowboarding, reading, writing, listening to music, and going out to see movies.

Many people who know that I play video games are often surprised at my other hobbies.

Cooking! XD

Seriously, whether it's something fast and easy or something that take a whole (or multiple) day, i simply love it! The simple act of making something tasty (and most time healthy) for myself can make me so happy sometimes. And having friends over for dinner and putting something on the table that makes their mouth water is just about the best thing ever.

As they say, it's the little things. :D

I play four musical instruments (drums, bass, guitar, piano) and I passionately study military history. The Second World War and Interwar Years more specifically, and the Pacific War in particular.

Like alot.
That's not all of it.
At all.

I've also dabbled in music (Mainly just fruity loops.) Though in grade school I did play a very nice clarinet.

If 'gamer' doesn't apply to board games, I have numerous awards for my participation/winning in chess.

I own koi, and enjoy just as much time watching my little fishies swimming around the pond as I do playing video games. For a lot of people the idea of a gamer enjoying such a peaceful hobby is an exception rather than common place. So fellow escapsists, what are some of your favorite things besides gaming that people don't expect of gamers?

Here are some of my newer koi
Great looking fish! the main one that keeps me away is I collect and shoot a variety of firearms but especially from WW2.

I love to tend plants. Houseplants, gardening, growing food for myself, etc.

Some people are cat-persons, some are dog-persons. I'm a plant-person. Taking care of plants leaves me feeling very zen.

Sadly, I am currently the living embodiment of gamer stereotypes. I'm socially awkward, unfit, unclean, bespectacled, surviving on junk food and the occasional sammich, living with my mother, and let's not forget the odd perversion here and there.
Check back with me in a few months and I might know how to make electronic music. I'm interested in an October course, so... there's that.

To add to all that, I'm in the military [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/CeremonialSage.jpg] (US Air Force... that pic's like 5 years old), and I tend to dress [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/DSCN1380.jpg] like [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/DSCN1449.jpg] this [http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x326/SageRuffin/Magfest%20XI/DSC_0020_zpsb62111fe.jpg] on a daily basis.

I have a healthy social life, a girlfriend, I play sports, and engross my self in political, religious, and philosophical debates. I'm also and avid fisherman, love firearms, and enjoy exploring the natural world as much as I do the digital ones.

The latter comes in very handy when I do meet people that will try to box me in with a gamer stereotype. It is very funny when you have some poor guy cast disapproving eyes on me after overhearing me talking about playing Monster Hunter or EVE Online; only to then be surprised when I can jump into HIS conversation and hold my own with his own topic. Bonus laughs when this happens and I'm dressed in baggy clothes, have messy hair, a look genuinely like a few other stereotypes.

Gotta love shattering peoples preconceptions and misconceptions xD

Looks like the majority of the Escapist Community breaks the stereotype.

Perhaps the new stereotype should be "Not Being Stereotypical of the Stereotype."

As for me, I'm forty, trained Muay Thai for years, currently practice parkour and have been playing guitar since I was twelve.

Oh, and I'm married to a cute blonde chick.

Suck on THAT, Gamer Stereotype!

Admittedly, gaming is probably the only thing I could call a "hobby" at the moment. That being said, though, I do also really like playing airsoft, building model cars/planes as well as faffing about with model trains. Plus I sometimes draw, and cooking I do enjoy from time to time.

As for interests that might not fit the "gamer" stereotype: I do have a strange fascination with trains. Plus, I can be a bit of an aviation nerd, and I do have a passive interest in cars. I also am a massive gun nerd, to the point that I sometimes irritate people around me with how I can nitpick every little tiny detail movies, tv shows, video games, etc. etc. get wrong in regards to guns. Plus, I'm a guy and have a boyfriend. Might not be too weird, but considering the stereotypical "gamer" is homophobic as fuck it seems, that certainly breaks the stereotype.

Oh, and I have a massive fascination with British microcomputers from the 80's like the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and the Commodore 64. Might not seem too weird since I mainly want to collect those things for gaming purposes. However, considering those three examples I used weren't very popular on my side of the Atlantic, and the fact that I wasn't even alive during the 80's; it still might be considered a bit odd.

Well I airsoft. As a matter of fact, my gear is kind of like a car to a motor-head. Between excursions to the field I'm looking for ways to improve my loadout. It is fun.

I'm really into rap. I'm recording with some friends who are trying to start up a production company with a bunch of rappers from my town. My rap tends to be political.

I play guitar too but I feel like that's more common among gamers.

Sports. All of the sports. I played football for 3 years in high school, and I still play golf and soccer when I get the chance. I'll watch pretty much any sporting event put in front of me, which makes this a good time to be me, with Confederations Cup and World Cup qualifying soccer, NBA and NHL finals, and it's the middle of baseball season.

My hobbies include video games, tabletop games, drawing and writing.

I literally have NO hobbies whatsoever that do not fall under the "Nerd" umbrella.
