Maybe not aren't as famous, but deffinitely underappreciated would be Pink.

But your original quesiton would either be VV Brown or Little Boots.
Pink, underappreciated? It might just be an Australian thing, but you can't listen to more than 15 songs on the radio in a row without one of them being pink. She'd be an example of someone I think gets far too much attention for her talent (she's not bad, but seriously, nobody should get that much airtime).

I always thought the pixies should have got more mainstream attention, but then again, in countries where the radio stations only play a few songs by a select few artists. Even huge bands like deep purple and led zeppilen are fairly unknown (at least in meblourne) due to the media completely ignoring them.

Then we'd get even more coldplagarism, which I don't think anyone (sensible) would appreciate.

Paul Gilbert and his protege, Buckethead.

They can do things with six strings that you wouldn't believe.

Queen. They were so awesome that they will NEVER be recognized enough.

Same goes for Marvin Gaye, and J.S. Bach. I know those guys are well-known (among people with good taste), but they should be on fucking currency. Bach was so good, one of his symphonies got shot into space for aliens to hear.

I don't really look into more "underground" stuff (that's the best I could come up with to oppose "main-stream").

Chuck Schuldiner. He made death metal into what it is. Also one of the most underatted guitariats ever. Fuck Dimebag and Hendrix, Schuldiner went through way more shit than those two guys ever went through.

I don't know how famous he is but Moby should get some more recognition.
Deffo, he's a brilliant artist.

Amorphis should get a little more recognition imo too. As should most artists on the candyrat label

I always think this about Local H, but they could be more famous than I know. I don't really pay much attention anymore.

A year ago I would've said Owl City but he's getting pretty popular these days so yeah.

Now, however, I wold definitely say Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover aka the black guy from Derrickcomedy. He's one of the best rappers I've heard in a while. And his CD Poindexter is one of the few where I like every song so yeah I think he deserves a little more fame.

I forgot to mention Heaven Shall Burn. They're fucking awesome but not many people I talk to know about they and/or think they're some Satanic band. Though that could be an indication of where I live.
