Ever heard of Neil Gaiman [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NeilGaiman]?
He's a fantasy/horror writer who's been writing young adult novels for some time. He's a really great author and storyteller, and his books are such that you can easily get into them, while at the same time maintaining a kind of poetic quality.
You can't go wrong with most of Neil Gaiman's books. Coraline (Which was made into a kick-ass movie) and The Sandman (Which is a famous comic book series by him) are among some of his best.
There's also Terry Pratchett [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TerryPratchett] if you liked Neil Gaiman's works, but Pratchett's novels are more satirical and less dark, all the while playing with all kinds of tropes and managing to make people laugh while reading a fantasy novel. I'd recommend Small Gods, Feet of Clay, and especially Reaper Man as far as Terry Pratchett's books are concerned. The rest are all just as good, but those three, I think, are some of his best.
