I agree for the most part with this optimistic little piece, but I think that The Escapist can still work harder towards this core value that it usually seeks.
We still see pretty flippant articles here on occasion. While humour is welcome and is usually well placed, when whole articles that are completely falsified just for a gimmicky coolness factor, this does detract from the image of a serious magazine devoted to an art form like video games.
I think that the gaming populace still needs an even more serious publication on this subject, that is absolutely devoted to the artistic expression portion of games, but we're just not there yet. The "gaming" (i.e. the control, the culture, the memes and popular mainstream releases) needs to be able to take a back seat to art in many more games before we might see this happen. In the mean time, The Escapist certainly does nicely.
