Certainly a pretty good summation of the Escapist. I will admit it pains me a little to see the Escapist trending more towards commercialism, especially with their annoying as hell video overlays and preview ads, but I do understand the need to make money and sustain yourself.
Had I known about this contest I probably would have entered something. The Escapist is like an ever present online gaming buddy. Someone you can talk to about a passion of yours without being ridiculed for it, and you find that most people on here have something in common.
A particular example would have to be in my early days here when I would get into console wars with Mitzy and S69-5. At times they would get pretty heated, but we managed to resolve our differences amicably and S69 even extended a friendship invite, which I thought was pretty rare in most cases of people on the internet.
Few trolls, no legions of moronic CoD and Halo tards... the members of the community that are CoD and Halo fans are pretty rational and can have an intelligent conversation on the subject. Oh and yeah, Valve beat Zynga.... that says something about the community right there
