Yeah, it seems EA has forgotten all about that one time not long ago when they met with the Extra Credits folks and said they'd talk about new ways to advertise. The only thing we can hope for is they make so many of these they finally wear it out and drive themselves into the ground.
The problem is EA publishes some good games from time to time. I mean they do publish a whole lot of crap, but if you ignore their marketing they are one of the better publishers (at least sometimes).

Oh it's not the worst thing EA has ever done.

just look up some of the things they pulled with the marketing of Dante's Inferno and see why 99 problems is nothing.
short version: Faked protests which angered people of most religions, angering Nannies with achievements, and treating women like sexual objects.
good job EA, you pushed back the reputation of gamers 5 years.
It looks like EA has 99 ethics problems, and a Battlefield is barely one.

It's Max PAYNE. PAYNE. Jesus, have you even played the game? How the HELL would 99 problems be fitting for MAX PAYNE?
Cause all his problems are caused by women.

and fixed it. Sorry for the sp? error

*EDIT*

Caused by women is wrong. I should say all his problems are related to his relationships with various women but are often caused by bad guys.

I did also say it would be related ironically.

I actually thought this was a pretty cool commercial by EA's standards. And this is coming from the guy that hates rap.

Is it just me or should EA be forbidden from making another commercial ever again. They seem to make the worse possible decisions. I?m watching Hulu and I see the battlefield commercial and what is the backing song? 99 problems. Seriously? Then I think back and I remember EA past decision on representing their products. This game is too disturbing from your Mom commercials comes to mind.

Look I don?t really have a problem with the song and it might even fit for Max Payne 3. At least the song would ironically tie to the game. But Battlefield is just a s shooter; this association is just stupid machismo
Alright OP skip to 1:27, me and a mate changed the music out from BF3 trailer and put in some Metallica... so... any better ? :p (ignore the gameplay part.. its from the alpha so a bit outdated :) unless you like some more metallica)

also some guy commented on the video sometime ago: "Well, hip-hop and rap are popular amonsts the teenagers watching this. Rap appeals more to this audience. And besides, i like rock. But this band is dislike. number 1 rule of youtube, dont put music you like, put music the audience will like. Great video though."

i was like wtf... how can you dislike Metallica ?! but i dont agree with that dude one bit

You're talking about the commercial. Its doing something right.
While I understand your point and it is true that we are talking about it. We are talking about it and the company in a negative way. And I know they say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but they are simply wrong.

also while I'm ranting about the BF3 commercials. WTF is with the fake static throughout? You spend millions making your game look as pretty as possible and then you fake static in the commericals? You make your game look like a SD piece of crap.

I mean I guess it is trying to simulate the chaos of the battlefield but seriously, it just makes it look like crap to me.
I think it's there for two reasons.

The first is what you've already described. So no need to elaborate.

The other, I believe, is to hide how bad the clips actually look. Now people, don't rage on me. Just bare with me.

First, it seems as though EA is showcasing the console (360) build of the game in all it's ads. Why they're doing this is beyond me as the PC build looks infinitely better. Consider the Gamestop commercial that's been running. It shows three different players playing on Caspian Border with a golf announcer talking over the action. The clips look terrible. Blurry textures. Bad draw in. Limited particle effects. Etc, etc. This is because the clips in the Gamestop ad are taken from the 360 version as well.

Second, as good as the Frostbyte 2 engine looks, it does NOT translate those visuals well to standard definition. And, seeing as most viewers aren't going to see these commercials in HD a majority of the time, anything they can do to hide the bad look while also making it look "gritty" they're going to do it. In this case, it's the "static" everywhere.

If nothing else, we, as a gaming community should speak up and protest things that we don't want in our community. The marketing choices that EA makes has an effect on how our community is viewed by others. That appearance affects the kinds of people who want to or don't want to join our community and those who leave the community. I don't know about you, but I refuse to think of most of EA's marketing as part of gaming culture and I want them to to stop it, not because of what some politician might think of gaming, but for the sake of gamin itself. I don't want that kind of trash in gaming, do you?

It's amusing to know as soon as I even heard the song and saw two seconds of gameplay I knew exactly which game it was for and that it was EA.

It was just obvious...
But hey, it'll sell copies right?

I see 3 basic problems with EA.

"EA Games! Challenge everything!" P.S. Including the patience and loyalty of our customers!

EA may secretly stand for "Eagerly Aggressive" (in response to whenever someone makes a good game, they buy the developer)

They started with sports games. Then expanded, but without expanding their thought processes or creativity. Domino effect...

wait, you ask wtf is wrong with EA and the first thing that comes to mind is its commercials?what about the fact that their business goal seems to be to take every amazing gaming company and buy them out before they become to big and then just ring them out for money? what about the fact that they are now taking games and putting them on origin instead of widely accepted digital markets like steam just so they can make a few extra cents for each game? Also the issue thats been around for ever, they dont seem to like to patch their games (even if it has a very popular online mode) after its been out for about 4 months. I could go on for a long time with things that are wrong with EA but by the time i finish the post their will be a whole new slue of problems that EA has.

I cringed when I saw it also.

Didn't even make sense. They couldn't have picked something else?

~Everything~

Evidence: Origins terms of agreement, advertising, sticking their arses into Bioware's work, etc.

I went with the "write an e-mail of complaint" route with EA but to get their e-mail address you have to sign up as a member and since Origins involves spyware I REALLY don't trust what they do with their customer's data.

Simply put, imminent hack in 10...
