I think the ones that annoy me most are the ones that seem to think winning a game makes them win at life. I mean, it's not like you can actually win at life at all anyway.

Then there are the griefers, the rude folks, the munchkins, and both the "stop having fun" guys and "Lol, I just play for fun" guys, depending on the situation.

I can't really classify the type but here are some examples of what they do:
I'm playing Counter Strike, getting owned, decide to go AWP, do good. In chat "Stupid AWP noob. Learn to play or use a real gun, noob".
^This. This shouldn't exist.
Another Example:
Playing SC2. A few bad games as Terran, I decide to play a Zerg game. Game is in my hand, final push. Chat pops up "F***ing zerg rush f*g. Why does every SC player play OP zerg. Noob, l2p"...
That quote is near exact, I remember it because it infuriated me to no end.
People like this, I have no idea what to call them other than a slew of derogatory terms.
Why are there people like this? They're ruining the experience.

The im a gurl gamer trololol don't hit on me silly bois type
The people that respond idiotically to the above type type
The under 16 type
The people that have played a game so much they have left human emotion and empathy behind and will dominate a game and all it's participants. They don't even feel the satisfaction of winning like we do.

Gamers I like
Funny guys with microphones
Funny guys without microphones
Ones that take the time to chat whilst playing so you actually know your not playing against bots
+10 prestige kiddies that aren't that good just so I can feel smug about killing them and that's 3/5 of them
Happy noobs, they have fun and you have fun killing them

The sexist ones.

Just for the record---I'm a guy.

I can't stand it when the female majority mocks and insults guys who play games just because gaming is a "girl's thing".

Humph!!!

Sing it with me boys: "OOOhh, we shall overcooooome! We shall overcoooooom...."

Gamers who say "It's just a game" when they purposely troll your team and make you lose deliberately.

I know it's a game. I have a controller in my hand moron. Doesn't mean I want some loser fucktard ruining my good time.

The type of gamer that pisses me off the most are the online know-it-alls who tell you the best way to do anything and get crazy when you tell them you want to play your way and not theirs.

i.e. If you play League of Legends he's the guy/gal telling you how to play your character, buy items, etc. while he/she is doing the worst by far.

The ones who would spam flash grenades, use sniper rifles, and tell you to stop camping in a small map in Counter Strike: Source.

It's a good tactic but just not giving the other team a fighting chance and forcing them to camp is just sad. How are you suppose to counter that?
Flash grenades are used for offense and spamming them is a good idea when you don't get blinded. People do ***** way too much in that game though, I have to give you that.

People who give me shark about playing the female characters whenever given the option to. The gamers that feel that the gender of their character must match their plumbing. When I play L4D, I'm Zoey. Period. Take Zoey, and I'll find another damn group. Fighting games? I'm Cammy, Chun Li, and C. Viper. And I'll waste you with them, if it is a serious match; or I'll happily set up goof-off chain throw festivals if we're just derfing around. My level 85 Paladin? Female BElf. My level 85 Druid? Female Tauren. My level 85 Warlock? Female Gnome. I played EverQuest as a Female Halfling Druid, and was perfectly happy to ignore all the "you so sexy" tells. My guild gave me grief once about me being a netvestite. I parked them all in WK and let them walk home to Freeport.

I'm a 100% straight male, I think guys are awesome, I think girls are awesome. But leave off the flaming simply because I want to play pretty princess dress up with my game characters. It doesn't make me feminine, it just makes me interested in playing with my dolls.

What really annoys me the most is people who, when they have a problem with something, it's not because they're not skilled enough or have the wrong equipment, no no no.

It's because it's OP. Or broken.

"What, you mean I can't beat this boss because I don't have the right stuff? Bullshit it's obviously brokenly overpowered."

Captcha says: Mark it zero

People get unnecessarily mad when they lose. It's just kinda silly, especially if it's a single-player game. My brother does this a lot. I let him have a go playing one of my games once. He ended up throwing the controller through the screen. I got a new TV out of it, but I haven't let him play since. Another time he was playing Tekken with my other brother, and when he lost, he threw the controller at my other brother and knocked out a tooth. He also got a new tooth, but I doubt he was as happy with that as I was with my new TV.

captcha: out of sorts. Well, that's one way to describe it :)

So we all have that one subculture of gamer that just pisses you off almost every time you see, hear or read what they say. So what is it for you?

Now, let's not turn this into a flame war thread. So try to give your points actual reasoning, and refrain from making huge generalizations. And if you see someone who's opinion you don't like, ignore. Now, let's get on with the thread.

As for my one. I've got to say the kind of gamer who only likes games when they're "artsy" and "deep". The one who looks over everything if the story and the characters aren't good. Now, I'm not talking about people who actually do want games to be held in higher regard, Extra Credits is a good example of how to get it right. But when you basically say "the game is held back by more gamey elements", then you should really turn your attention away from games and go look at another art-form. It's like someone who thinks he's an artist saying "Oh, this art isn't good because there are too many paints used". It's trying to pretend that something is what it's not.
Basically this. And then to add insult to injury they then claim I'm a complete friggin' moron for enjoy games like call of duty, GTA, and SR. But that's not enough, no. They then go on to claim that I'm destroying the ENTIRE GAMING INDUSTRY by buying and playing said games and that I should stop now and start playing art games to get smarter and stuff. Some of them also seem to want the entire industry to stop making everything BUT art games, so we'd end up with a 15 hour HD version of "Every day the same dream" and 90000 clones.

Hardcore gamers also piss me off. "Oh this game sucks because it's not challenging enough. Oh this next game should have instant death mechanics and fuel and hunger and weapon limits because everyone needs to be forced to play on the hardest difficulty at all times and be forced to use strategy." Look, I understand the easy games thing, and you know what? That's quickly being fixed, what with kaizo mario rom hacks, I wanna be the guy, and super meat boy being a few games designed to make people throw controllers through windows. That doesn't mean every game should be designed to make people throw controllers through windows. Not everyone likes insane challenges, which is why you don't see everyone on the planet trying to be poor to challenge their economic skills or entering the Ninja Warrior obstacle course challenge to prove their athleticism.

I think this probably applies to most people at one point or another, but the people who are always "right." Won't even give credence to any other opinion. Everything they say is outright fact, regardless of how subjective the discussion is. I'm not talking about people who don't qualify their statements, because no one has the time or energy to say "in my opinion" after every sentence. But you can usually tell the difference between someone who is stating their opinion, and someone who is assuming their opinion is "right".

Again, I think we all do it from time to time, but its the people who always do it that gets me riled up.

Im going to have to join the "i hate elitists" wagon. You know the kind. The ones who play 18 hours a day and know the ins and outs of the game mechanics and useful glitches. If your not up for going hardcore and playing with 100% effeciency and have had the 100+ hours of experience then your a noob and dont deserve to play.

Senario..
-Your a magician in an mmo
-Your back from work and just want to unwind not maticulasly plan an attack strategy
-You join a party with someone you didnt know was an elitist
-You make a few mistakes and he calls you out on it
Elitist: OMG MR MAGICIAN YOU SUX!!
You: Sorry i dont know what you want me to do
Elitist: DO DAMAGE!
You: I am but my class has limitations, tell me what you want me to cast exactly?
Elitist: DO DAMAGE :SLDFJEOISLNFLNSDNFUESNFKLASF

Those guys make mmo gamers look like hopeless freindless no life losers. Even if some of us are that way alot of us are nice and good but shy people. But oh no if your rocking a female avatar they are all but nice to you...

Metagamers, elitists, DQNs, overly competitive people who don't care about the game or the rules, just beating other players. Generally psychopaths to some degree who can't immerse themselves in proper gameplay or have fun with the game itself, characterised by a low boredom threshold, impatience (especially with newbies), and habitually cruel treatment of other players.

The type of gamer who believes that games should be exclusive to themselves and don't like to see games getting localized. Also ones who justify region locking by saying stuff like "There will be too many BR fags and people who don't speak english" and "That game is shit" before even playing the game.

For reference, Chief has only played about five games in the show's entire run besides Halo, and only GTA4 was of his own will.

OT: I don't really get worked up over a lot of gamer types, but...People who defended the ending of Mass Effect 3--specifically, on the grounds of 'artistic integrity'...
