Maybe you get better gear in the long run, but you'll be much wealthier if you just rob and pickpocket everyone around; with the occasional odd murder if you think you can get away with it.

Saying that, I prefered being good myself because with good karma the Talon mercenaries came after you and I really loved their armor. Better then buying it, just take it off their still fresh corpse. In a nice way of course, you are meant to be a good guy.

Where do I begin?

Jericho
Callahan's Magnum
Watching Harold burn
Cannibalism
Mesmetron
Blowing up the Citadel
Psychotic Prankster

What's the point of being good?

It is really just easy mode in Fallout 3. You have infinite caps, ammo, medical supplies, etc, and if anyone tries to stop you, you can just kill 'em dead. Though I feel it makes the game boring if you just kill every town in the game like I did. And since nobody really know what you have done in the game when you go to a new place there is no real consequence if you killed all of Rivet City or if you blow up Megaton. It seems like it is much more difficult in New Vegas due to factions and reputation.

The outside benefits were given when you were good because shit was so easy to procure if you didn't need to worry about a karma meter.

yeah the point of being bad in fallout 3 is living out your deepest darkest fantasy's in a game. I mean, in real life you could never come up to an old lady with a shotgun and blow the old dear into next week. see what I mean.

There is only ever one reason to be bad and that is for the lulz. =)

In all honesty you where probably punished for being bad in fallout when it comes to XP and gear. That is why a moral choice system in RPG's is generally a bad thing. But I think the main point of being evil was that it allowed for a second play-thru that was very different in terms of dialogue.
That's just bad design then. A decent moral choice system should be more like, good gets better XP rewards while evil receives better monetary reward. Item reward should be balanced for both sides. Then again, I never considered Fallout 3 to be a particularly good game to begin with.

You can level faster as evil with the right perks. I'm serious! Not to mention all the caps you can make by stealing and just murdering people.
But at a certain point caps are just worthless. I started out as a bad character but once I broke the 1k mark on money, pickpocketing just didn't seem worth while when the best you can do is about 6 caps of ammo and 5-27 just sitting in their pockets.

It gave me some sadistic amusement.
I remember cutting the head off the mayor of Megaton, picking it up, and showing it to his son.
You sir, are made of win.

And also it's a good stress relive and can be funny watching a developing city get nuked to the ground..

Only real difference I noticed was companion choices and which group of people randomly tried to kill you. For me, it was hard to be bad. I actually had to randomly go through and shoot up places so my karma stayed "bad" even after destroying Megaton. Think I even shot up Tenpenny's, let the ghouls in, then shot all of them...

getting more money and keeping it, probably... i always play as good as i can when i play games like this, but the bad part about that is that the game wants you to give away money and not accept it when you do a good deed.

when youre evil, you get to steal money and not give it back to anyone :p i suppose thats a bonus

Usually I do something bad only if it benefits me. In Fable 2 for instance, that one guy who
wants to destroy Oakfield
I killed. Why? I saw no profit in letting him destroy the place- I had property investments there!

There are lots of different ways of being evil. My evil character just had extremely sticky fingers. I would steal anything not nailed down.

So why be evil - Caps, Weapons, Armour, Different Dialog, Different House, Different Followers.

In New Vegas I was naturally evil at the start cause I was a thief and there wasn't enough good karma quests(but by the end I was good).
