Fun!
It is immensely satisfying to stab the fuck out of anybody you like.
And the children!(With the right mods of course.)
I never minded the children really. Though that's probably because I saved them from Paradise Falls accidentally, so they let me in straightaway.

How do you accidentally save people?! And anyway you probably related to them since you're a child as well.

Well, I opened the door to see what was in there. Then they ran out. Then I closed the door again and pretended nothing happened. >.>

i was thinking, apart from the amusing town massacres and blowing up megaton there wasn't
much point being bad in fallout 3, being good you can have fawkes, star paladin cross and i think a3 21's plasma rifle you have to be good to get, but being bad the best you can get is callahans magnum and thats all i can think of i might be being totaly ignorant of some parts of the game but thats all i can think of...
so what was the point? (btw i'm not saying this game is bad, apart from that one thing so don't take it like i dont like the whole game because i really do)
You get better rewards as a good guy because you have to work for them, as a bad guy you can take whatever the hell you want from whoever the hell you want.

Thing is, even roleplaying-wise I never could find any reason to be an asshole. In Dragon Age for example, my elf was a racist, angry bastard who just killed everything, and he had a reason to; raised in the slums, his soon-to-be wife taken from him, etc etc. No wonder he was a downright bastard to every human he came across (and cold to the rest).

But why would my Wastelander be such an asshole? I never got that in Fallout 3 or New Vegas (note: haven't finished New Vegas yet though), the evil guys like the Powder Gangers were just evil for, well, evil's sake I suppose. I can't work with that. Why would my character murder Three Dog? Why would my character sabotage the NCR? Etc etc, being evil has little reason. Got that in the first Fallout as well
Okay, I have to start by saying that role-playing evil characters does not come easy to me. I tend to not enjoy it as much as simply playing a goody-goody.

But if we're just going to look for reasons for the The Lone Wanderer and The Courier to be assholes?

The Lone Wanderer had a fairly hostile upbringing in Vault 101. Bullied by other kids. We don't see very much of it in the game's tutorial/opening. Should be easy enough to give yourself some more fuel for the character developing anti-social tendencies.

The Courier was shot in the head. Twice. And buried alive. I'd say "'nuff said", but one could very well figure out some more background story for the character to explain why he/she took the courier job to begin with, etc., and craft a mind more likely to side with the Legion and/or the Powder Gangers.
