About 10 hours into FarCry 2 when I'd just been pursued and attacked for what seemed like the millionth time by the same 2 guys in the same fucking jeep.I just said "fuck it" and swapped it a couple of days later with a buddy for COD4

Gaming-wise? An hour into Final Fantasy X.
Just lost interest. Yeah, so maybe I didn't try hard enough - Tidus just killed it for me.
I listened to the whole thing... I found it funny. I probably have a strange sense of humour, but that sounded so surreal it made me laugh.

FFXII: I just realised quite far into the game, when I gave up on the main plot, that I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing or why I should care. I vaguely enjoyed the sidequests and things, but I'd forgotten what I was supposed to do to complete the story.

World of warcraft. My breaking point was when WOTLK made everything so easy. I just gave up. If everyone can get the best epic gear and arena matches last 45 seconds there is no point in playing. I hate casuals.
And when I almost finished a 2,250,000 dollar house in sims 3... There was way too much time and effort that I had to put in to actually get the damn thing without cheats.

I tend to preservere.

I just am starting to feel too subjectively old to game. I feel as though I ought to have 'better' things to do.

Not sure if that makes much sense.
I know what your saying on a number of levels. Right now all of the new gamers being brought into the growing market have resulted in games being targeted almost specifically at kids and young adults. It will take a while for them to grow up and for a sizable (in comparison) market for adults to develop...

On top of that when you get older, you get into a grind, have less time to game, and Real Life takes priority.

The ironic thing about this is that I've experienced things in both directions. I mean as a kid I did some MASSIVE amounts of gaming, but then when I got older and went to work (doing Casino security and such) gaming took less priority. I mean I did it, but I couldn't put the time into it and in a lot of cases I felt like it was pointless since I could neither fully enjoy the game, and even if I *DID* succeed at a game I had nothing to show for it other than a bit of entertainment which seems increasingly pointless to a cynical adult who increasingly understands the value of having a bit of extra cash in hand from overtime or whatever.

Of course then my problems got worse (I have psychological/emotional problems from brain damage which have fluctuated a bit) I was more or less forced into retirement. Living on social security/disabillity with my parents I of course have tons of time and got back into gaming again, and my perspective/priorities again shifted because really... what else am I going to do? Most of my adult concerns are things I feel are totally beyond my control.

Assuming nothing bad happens to you in the meantime, I imagine by the time you retire you'll see a pretty strong market aimed at gaming adults. With a fixed income and time on your hands you'll view things differantly.

In the end wasting time for escapism, is wasting time for escapism. I mean some people catch fish and then just toss them back into the water. They get no more out of it than you do from a game, but they enjoy it (and more power to them).

I'd imagine your simply in "the real world" of the competitive rat race, that actually doesn't last forever anymore than being a kid does. Strangely most people (there are exceptions) tend to leave life with as little responsibility and forced goals than they entered into it with as a kid.

Of course to be frank, I think retirement has it's downside as well, and with a lot of leisure time you sort of miss having that kind of control. I mean nowadays if I want something I can't simply try and get overtime at work, I'm pretty much at the mercy of a mechanical and unchanging system... and it feels fairly powerless at times.

Ahh well, enough rambling.

Mass Effect; 2 hours into the base assault on Virmire on Insanity when a rocket hits me and the auto-save sends me back exactly 2 hours.

I'm about to give up on Dante's Inferno. I just don't care.
It looks like one of those games that could be really cool, but I have a feeling that I'd experience a Devil May Cry sized letdown on that one.
See, thing is...I turned Dante's Inferno off last night TO PLAY DEVIL MAY CRY 4.

Honestly, it was more entertaining. At least that Dante has a personality. And they're basically the same game except with a little more doom and destruction and a little less FFFFFF HOLY SHIT DANTE HAS A DEMON SUITCASE THAT TURNS INTO A MOUNTED TURRET WEAPON.

Ahem.

And other kinds of ridiculousness.

Well I gave up on Bayonetta and the Wheelman. They are just so generic I couldn't take it. As far as franchises go I think after playing Sonic Adventure 2(the Knuckles levels) I vowed to never play a sonic game again. How does the most kickass dude spends his time searching for crystals to a forever looping rap song beats me

Not gaming: Working 140 hour weeks at the end of 2007, for three months nearly, then failing anyway. I still haven't recovered from that.

Gaming: Halo 2 on Legendary. I got as far as uprising, through the bloody New Mombasa levels, through Delta Halo, even through the damnable Quarantine Zone, but the Jackal snipers on Uprising were the last straw.

I even know the exact point, when you get outside after the first tunnel, heading left downhill. Usually carrying a Carbine/Shotgun or beam rifle/FRG by now. When you first encounter vehicles in that bowl are several snipers placed around the upper edges. They can't be seen easily and without prior knowledge you can't kill them, they're outside the normal area of play.

I pop out, headshot one, it goes down, a second spawns exactly in it's place to replace it, but about three feet in the air in that way they are when they spawn. Before it's feet have even touched the ground it's fired a perfect headshot and killed me. From spawn to firing was maybe a tenth of a second, faster than the beam rifle can actually fire.

That was that, no more, it sticks with me now as the ultimate in cheap design, damn you Bungie.

Half-Life 2

I don't know why but I cant seem to be able to play that game for more than an hour at a time, and the farther into the story I get the less inclined I am to play it. I can tell its an amazing game, but it just doesn't give me any pleasure playing it...

Alone in the Dark (the current gen version). Second chapter, the scene where you have to drive through New York as it falls to pieces around you, all the while outrunning whatever demonic dust storm is coming at you from the rear.

After numerous retries from small things like the ground in front of my car SLIGHTLY elevating as it cracked and causing the taxi to slam to a complete stop...

The last straw was when the front bumper of the car just dropped off, I of course ran over it in the cab, which caused the car to do a 180, come to a complete stop, and the dirt devil overtook me.

I took the disc out of the tray, and chucked it right out of my 9th floor apartment balcony.

Crunk-Core.. The skid mark on the underpants of music.
As for me, Can't remember a game which I've given up on from difficulty, but loads I've just stopped playing, I did lower my difficulty setting from high to medium on MW2 though, I suppose that's the same thing.

My last girlfriend as well, after the umpteenth argument in 2 months I decided it was time to end it.

I gave up on MGS4 on the flying boss. "No", I thought, "you are a fucking stealth game MGs4, start acting like it".
