The final boss of Ocarina of Time, calling the four giants in Majora's Mask, the warthog run at the end of Halo 3, and the Gruntilda battle in Banjo-Kazooie.

Mass Effect 2 beginning all the way, for just being so brilliantly bleak. Definitely the most interesting start to a sequel in a long time.

The ending of MW2...

I KNOW! I shouldn't have but I was shouting at my TV when
you had the knife in you and you had to pull it out to throw back at the General :S

The knife fight between Leon S. Kennedy and Jack Krauser in Resident Evil 4.

I've never seen a more stylish and glamorous knife fight before, in a video game nonetheless!

STYLISH!
Likely this. Or any of the Krauser encounters in general.

First the knife fight. Then he makes you run through a labyrinth where he could be hiding around the next corner waiting to knife you. Or he's blasting you with his explosive bow or TMP. Then the final showdown. He's transformed, the tower is about to explode, and you have fairly limited room to maneuver. Your heart just doesn't stop pumping.

The 5th level of the human campaign in WC3. You have to hold of a neverending horde of undead for 30 minutes, and in the final minute the computer sends every single unit it has at you. There is no hope of winning, you just have to try to hold them off. It got to the stage where I was throwing my peasants at abominations just to slow them down. I only survived because it took them longer than a minute to destroy all my farms. Almost all my troops died within the first 20 seconds.

this, a million times this. I'd also say the entire final mission of the same game. Made me feel like the star of my own sci-fi epic.

Personally, I think the most intense moment I can remember in a game was in TF2 in a full 32 slot server, defending the last point of fastlane for over an hour.

All of the set-piece moments in Uncharted 2. Those were fucking sweet, especially the collapsing building.

Any of the times I got chased by that damn Dahaka in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Once the color washes out of the screen, you know shit's about to get intense.
Or alternatively, my response:

"OH MOTHERFUDGINGCRUMPETSONABREADSTICKWITHSLIGHTHINTSOFCINNAMONANDJAM!"

The Dahaka horrified me.

On Topic: That section in Kingdom Hearts where you have to escape the heartless, and your crappy wooden sword does bugger all. It really added to the "Jesus, what are these things, and what do they want with me?!".

Off the top of my head;
Call of Duty 4, on the container ship after it gets shot at and you need to get the hell out of there. That section really got my blood pumping.

More recently, having a Black Phantom invade you in Demon's Souls can be a pretty fucking harrowing experience. You feel awesome when you manage to defend yourself, though.

Something even more recent. [http://www.tomnetf2s.f2s.com/twopoints.JPG]

COD4 had a really great sequence at the beginning of Act II when:
You play as Captain Price in a flashback as you evade and sneak through Soviet forces, leading up to a badass sniper shot and then a frantic and difficult escape. Laying in the grass while the soldiers and tanks passed by and then crawling under the trucks were ridiculously nerve-racking, and then the standoff at the ferris wheel was an intense finish.
Best part about that game.
I loved those two missions, the part with the really big partol was so intense that it was almost scary. I love that game so much.
