We've already had tons of threads like this...

And I will call it "The 2000's."

Hopefully something better that what I've seen so far. I will forever recognize it as the years of completely shitty popular music.

And the only thing they would want to know is how you survived the death of Micheal Jackson, because I assume they will still be reporting on his death by then too.

I'm going with Benzaie at TGWTG and calling them the 2ks, and not think any more of it.

That would be the '2000's', or 'turn of the millennium'. Amusingly, a decade from now will be the beginning of the 'Twenty-twenties'.

The Noughties. Knowing how society works people will find it witty and amusing so it will stick.

In fact it has already stuck according to news reports that keep pulling up "the decade in review" segments.

no, by then it'll just be the 20s.

the 1920s will be called the 1920s, and very rarely brought up.

I dunno on that one--we're currently in a period where studying history and making anecdotes based upon past centuries/decades and the political events of those times is a favorable thing to do, not to mention how much we care about documentation and preservation of information now. I'd say for the people born in the late 1980's/early 1990's (our generation, that grew up with the history classes learning about the 1920's), there will have to be a definitive way of clarifying which is which. My bet's that we remember the 1920's as the twenties, as that's how they've always been known to us.
