His name will be Maximus Decimus Meridius, and he will have his vengeance on me, in this life or the next.

I'm in my mid 30's and still hate kids so I doubt little Maximus will ever become a reality.

Well whatever me and hypothetical wife agree on, but if it were up to me, I'd want to name my first boy Jim, after my Grandpa, who's honestly the greatest man I've ever personally met. If it was a girl, I'd name her Alyx, because I like the name. Totally not for any other reason...

I think it would be funny if you ended up living in Japan. Your surname makes any first name sound cute.
Kinda like how my friends name is "Yu".
It is a normal name in japanse but so confusing when talking in English.
"What is your name?" "my name is yu" "WTF?"

or

"The other day Yu said...""I didnt say that!""No, no I mean, Yu, not you"

So I sould try to avoid names that are confusing.
Also Suri. Suri is pickpocket in japanese, and I dont care if you are Tom Cruises daughter. It still sounds wierd...

I think there is a fine line between naming your kid something common like "Robert Lee" or "May," and naming your kid something like "Alucard" or "Garrus" or "Selphie" or "Winry" (which, if I recall correctly, was only the name of the character because that was the closest Japanese pronunciation of "Wendy"). I don't mind a name that is common but just happens to reference something. I even realized after I wrote my post that Sophie is the name of a character from Howl's Moving Castle. But don't name your kid something crazy just because it's the name of a character you like.
Yes, that makes sense. I already know what damage a name can do, which is why I was avoiding weird names when I was thinking of them. Because thier last name is already bad enough for bullies, as I figured out first hand. Although that one I can fix, because my dad taught me a good comeback for if they make fun of my last name(Lets just say my last name is much more intimidating when you translate it from German). But there is a point were weird can still work. My first name is Keegan, which while its Scottish (even though no one in my family has lived in Scotland for almost 1,000 years) is still relatively easy to spell, with the only usual typos being an "A" instead of the second "E" or forgetting one of the "E"s and still being relatively easy to pronounce in English. Plus, now whenever I find a character named "Keegan" in a game/movie/TV show, I have a reaction of "Hey, he has the same name as me! SWEET!!!" which is why I dont think its "bad" to be named after someone (within reason, like you said though).

EDIT: Also, the reason her name was Winry is actually because the author of FMA just mispronouncing/misspeaking "Wendy" and stuck with Winry because it turned out to be popular.

My wife and I are expecting our first child to be born any day now! Her name will be Mallory. If she had been a boy, we were leaning towards Nathan.

Nothing. i don't plan to have children, ever. Children are waste of time and money. I have trouble finding free time as it is.

Never having children. There's a list as long as my arm of things that would have to happen before I would ever consider it. Given that I'm creeping through middle age and not one single item has been ticked off yet, I'm going to go ahead and say never.

I like Sarah, Catherine, and Rebecca for girls' names. Middle name would be Janet or Adrienne after my mother or grandmother. One grandmother's name is Mirjam, pronounced MID-ee-ah, I would probably stay away from that.

I would name boys after paternal figures in my family: Joseph, Alan, Francis. There's also a Clyde, which I would not use, and a Rodney, which I'm on the fence about.

If it's a boy, I plan on going with Aiden. Aiden is the main character of my first book series. It's also a nice name, I've always liked it. I was planning on naming him Tyson, the original main character, who has a son named Aiden, so whenever my son Tyson has a kid, he can name him Aiden. Of course, if I have a girl or he had a girl, that would be a little out of the question... If I would have a girl, honestly, I have no clue what I would name her. I'm not good with girl names, at least, not any that aren't overused or boring.

I want something relatively simple and traditionally Norwegian, if possible. If it's a boy, I'd name him Tor. If it's a girl, it'd be Tiril.

Of course, if I ended up getting more kids of the same gender I'd have to think about this again. My girlfriend has also claimed naming rights on girls, making the issue a bit more complicated.

Common names which will not be ammunition for schoolyard taunting or hinder their chances when competing for employment.

I'd love to call my future son Isaac =)

For a daughter, I'm drawn to Amy or Jasmine but I'm not sure yet.

Boys I have Rufus, Jack, Vincent, Zack, Albert, Archie, Alfie, George, Edward, Harry, Charlie among many others.

Girls I have Ramoma, Willow, Faith, Alicia/Alesha, Aerith, Liara, Scatlett and probably more if I sat down and made a proper list XD
So, basically the cast of Final Fantasy VII? =P
Pretty much xD I love the game.
I probably wouldn't pick an outlandish name after a game character because it's a little unfair to my kid. Aerith is probably the strangest, I prefer the 'th' to Aeris. My friend has a little girl called Eris, she got the name by combining Erin and Iris. Another awesome friend of mine has a beautiful girl called Aerith named after the FFVII character.

Maybe I could have enough kids to name them all after a FF team...

Wow.. Not trying to offend anyone but alot of you peoples kids are gonna get bullied in school.
I'd never name my child after any form of character in a show or tv series, that just seems stupid to me.
A child should be given it's own name and not just be named Jon because you thought Game of Thrones was good.
Try thinking of the view of a child would you like at the age of ten to be named Sunflower? No child wants that.
Imagine that you name your child Kratos after one of the greatest hack'n'slash games ever and your child grows up to like calm business management games? That and I know it would suck as a child to have the conversation of ''Why do I have this name parent?'' ''Well.. I like Mass Effect so that's why I named you Garrus''
I know as a child that I took great pride in the fact that my own brother helped give me my name and how it happened and if it had just been 'I liked some character from some game' would be sort of disappointing.

Just had to get that off me chest.. So.. What would I name my children?
I'd probably go with some regular names like Alex, Ben, Robert and John.
I do have a dream of naming my son after myself so he could be called The Second but I doubt my future wife would share that dream.
As for girls.. I dunno.. I always liked the name Alice..

PS: Middle names is where it's at people! That's the place to put in the crazy names :D

My first born son is going to be Michael Atticus, after my grandfather and my personal hero. As for girls, I'm less clear. Caroline and Lily come to mind, but the problem is that I have people in my immediate family with those names, which means that family reunions will be somewhat tricky. I may need my wife's help on that one.

If I had a son, maybe I'd call him Albireo, after the binary star of the same name. Bonus points if he has heterochromia.

I have a daughter named Ella[footnote]no whatsoever relation to anything[/footnote]
If I were from an English-speaking country, I would really have fought for Erin[footnote]see 1)[/footnote]
If she were a boy, probably Yorick, however written (Jorik)[footnote]a comic series brought the name to my attention. Also, see Hamlet. And Frisia. Not LoL[/footnote]

Title says it all, really, what would you name your hypothetical children. If you already have children, what are their names? For me, if I had a son, I would probably call him Jason, just because Jason Chan sounds pretty good. If it was a girl, I would want to name her Amy, because again, it's a nice sounding name. So, what you would call your child?
And if you lost him, you could cut off your finger to placate his psychotic kidnapper! :D

I am infertile so my only option is pre-named adoption, but if through some miracle of modern medicine I get to have someone growing inside me, they will be named Superfly, regardless of gender. Obviously I don't have much confidence in modern medicine.
"And we had two beautiful children, Nathaniel and Superfly!"

OT: Roland would be a good name for a son. Or Miles, as a backhanded reference to my sister's boyfriend and likely husband, Giles, whom my father and I always refer to as Miles.

For a girl, maybe Faye.

Why do some of you hate your unborn children? You're just asking for your kid to be bullied. You like the name, then you have it. If you like the name "Garrus" then I'm happy for you but don't inflict it on somebody else, change your name to it.

I would call them something normal, not a game character, not some old name (like Barry) and something not directly associated with the bible (so Noah is not okay but James is).

They are my only "rules" (for lack of a better word) for naming a child. Game characters 'cos a lot of them have daft names. Old names 'cos things like "baby Bob" sound messed up (when you think of a Bob you think of an older bloke with a flat cap). No Biblical names 'cos if the kid wants to be atheist and I call him Noah, I bet he will be well pissed.

There should be laws for this reason!

Edit: The thing with weird spellings is whatever you name your child will only be half there name. For example, if you call your kid "Viktor" that kid will have to say "my name is Victor with a K" every fucking time! Well either that or spell it at them.

My second name is "McAllister" ... I have seen my second name spelled Mccallister, Mcalister, Mcallistar, Mallister (yes, they missed the "C") and just about every variation in between! Me, my mum and brother try to find new odd spellings for fun.
