I think the most logical course of action would be to genetically bioengineer a psychic octopus monster and teleport it into New York City, causing it to conjure horrible, maddening visions in the minds of the city's people which result in death.

Something like that, and then the whole world would realize that giant psychic octopus monsters are way worse than nuclear war, and then they would all join hands in peace.

Obviously.
You stole my idea.

Anyway, I'd implement a Socialist regime for a while, followed by a Libertarian one, followed by the deconstruction of major government. At this point, people will understand how futile and self-destructive murder/rape/theft/greed/etc. is, and laws and government will be redundant.

I'd suppress all human emotions and feeling meaning everyone can work towards the betterment of society and when our whole society has turned towards the principles of sharing, and goodwill then I would start to slowly reintroduce emotions. Though leaving out jealousy and anger possibly.

Just out of curiosity, I just want to find out what people think a utopia would be like. So, envision yourself as the president of the world, and say what you would change or do (and please don't say "make everyone nice"). Personally, I would take away currency. Then, the artists would paint so others could enjoy the paintings, the scientists would research for the better of humanity and not for a paycheque, and the game developers would work to make a game that appeals to everyone. So, just throw out your ideas.
Basically this. I'd probably wait until they have robots that can do our crappiest jobs though. :p

I would genetically enhance a squad of loyal men and kit them out in super-heavy futuristic armor and have them destroy all who defy my laws (yes I just made space marine police).

I would remove currency and in its place grant a reward system, whereby those who do the most good to society will be rewarded with great food, huge houses, awesome technology (consoles/computers) etc. and those who do nothing will die.

The law would be simplified to basically state that, if you do something to someone, we're going to do it to you, but worse. I fear for the rapists, we have some scary elephants.

I'd play the worlds political powers against each other into nuclear war, and once we're all dead, we'll be in Heaven worshiping the greatness of God for all eternity.

It'll hurt at first, but the ends justifies the means.

I would make myself the absolute ruler of the world!!!!!

but on a serious note a utopia is impossoble because its against basic human nature, i think i said this in another thread but if youlook at the book The Giver were a seemingly perfect utopia was only created when the leader of said utopia did stuff like seperate parents from children, make it so that no one can have sex exept for people whose job was to breed for the masses, kill all animals, kill deformed babies and the lesser of two twins for some random reason and hide death from the world by killing all old people and the sick behind closed doors and saying they were sent to paradise.

Get rid of all the current laws, have a list of what people are entitled to (rights) and then set up courts to severely (I mean like, ridiculously harsh) punish anyone who violates another persons rights. The Libertarian dream world. :p

Oh, and set up a global system of free education for all ages.

--

If that doesn't work after 10 years, I guess going the other way to totalitarian domination of the populace would be the logical step. Approved religions and food, state companies to work for, no money, rations for people. All that goodness.

Perhaps inform them before-hand of the potential transition would help the original to work? Who knows?

And if THAT doesn't work then well, I guess i'll let someone else have a go at it.

Well for starters I'd have to gas all of the Je-
Whoops that just slipped out there, poor taste I know.

Seriously though, I'd ban all of those magazines like 'OK!' or any of those magazines designed to flaunt the lives of so called 'celebrities'. The only reading material would be pamphlets designed to further ingrain my values into people's minds.

Hmm I think:
1. Bring back capital punishment.
2. Refuse to give money to anyone unless they are clearly very ill or on the verge of death
3. Bring back natural selection (bwa ha ha)
4. Be ridiculously tough on crime
5. Make sure there are no politicians, only me and some elitists
6. Every year, everyone is forced to take an I.Q test. The test will be created responding to their age and location. This will base them on what job they have for the next year. If they fail to such an extent, such person will be deported or killed
I think a few more laws and the utopia would be finished.

This isn't really a utopia, it's more of a way to GET to utopia and relies on me being in a good mood and having faith in human society. At first I would abolish all laws and punishments for crimes as punishment only breeds resentment. At first there would be a huge spike in crime as people come to grips with what they are allowed to do but since they will eventually get used to the fact that they are allowed to do anything they will learn that what they are doing dosen't achive anything and they are subject to social laws. I hope that they will start caring about everyone and not just those in their monkeysphere [http://www.cracked.com/article_14990_what-monkeysphere.html] and then they will gradually reduce crime by their own accord and not by force or laws.

Remove free will.......and the media outlets
history proves that doesn't work, you would need the media to remove free will.

I would just kill every single human on the planet and the world would be a much better place.

On a similar note, I had a dream about Heaven the other day everything was set out in sections like IKEA. There was food section, a pottery section. I had dinner with an old Jewish Family. It was pretty weird.

I don't think Utopia would be like IKEA. Well we can hope.

First, I would remove currency and most governmental control (with the exception of standard control for buildings and goods).

Second, cull the general population to one third of its current number. The chosen will not die, and will instead be moved to other planets with theoretical advanced spacecraft. Steps three through five will be put into effect on these colonies as well.

Third, level most major cities, leaving key buildings and items of cultural/scientific importance intact.

Fourth, remove any and all traces of firearms (video game emulations notwithstanding).

Fifth, create a cadre of specialized assassins for each section of the planet that would monitor the world in secret and execute anyone that threatens to tip the newly-created balance of the world (ie. mass murderers, dangerous psychopaths, revolutionaries, rogue assassins).

I would then allow the people to live without noticeable rule, stepping in only to rectify critical problems. The initial turmoil would theoretically give way to innate cooperation, resulting in the closest possible rendition of a perfect society.

I would turn life into a generic anime, because nothing bad happens in a generic anime.

You mean until many-tentacled rapists come. And then giant robots reduce a random city to nothing. And then some other crazy shit happens... right?
That or a man in an elaborately-made duster and glasses. They always mean trouble.

one word... nanobots... they'll solve everything

actually, I think I'd also make pokemon real so that all disputes could be settled with what is essentially a more exciting, yet strangely acceptable version of cock-fighting.

Even better: Create the Yu-Gi-Oh universe, where even the most brutal conflicts can be solved with a children's card game.

To make a utopia? I would have everyone (including me) killed and the town torn down(beforehand). An idealistic nature world is far more of a utopia then anything humanity can ever scratch out.
