Well that screws me over - my face is always angry, all the time.
Are you an Angry Marine?

OT: I haven't had a real profile pic in months. I have amusing pictures I find around the internet as mine and change it whenever I feel like it.

Whilst I agree with it on some levels, aka no irresponsible profile pics because potential employers look at that stuff etc, the fact that this is a Daily Mail article just makes me wonder if they only wrote this article because it combines two of their favourite berserk buttons; the internet being something that can/will ruin your life and THEY'RE WATCHING YOU ALL THE TIME-style paranoia.

*sigh* this paper makes me ashamed to be British.

Ok I'm a little confused here, when it says no boobs does that mean at all, or does it just mean a closeup or something? Because in my profile pic it is me and a friend playing our guitars, and she's a girl and therefore has boobs, your thoughts fellow escapists?

If you've been holding the guitar for more than a week and you can't play Smoke on the Water, at least few first lines, you shouldn't even speak about guitars.

Hang on I'm a little confuse here, when it says no boobs does that mean none at all or just no close-ups or things like that, because my profile pic is of me and a friend of mine playing our guitars together, and seeing as how she is a girl, she therefore has boobs, am I doomed and need to change my profile pic?

My current profile picture is a metroid. Probably won't have it up long, I just felt like having something different for a bit.

Ah right no, we are both very accomplished guitarists

Easier way to deal with this: don't have a profile. No profile or pictures, no problem.

"Subjects more likely to invoke a positive response are: sensible-looking friends, wedding photos, pictures of children (hopefully yours) and shots taken on a beach, though that might clash with the "no boobs" rule. Smiling is good too."

All of those things would make me hate you.
So there's your "positive response", dumbass researchers.

Profile pics of anime, comics and games are good.

As old and grumpy as the survey respondents may seem, it's sound advice. In an age where any potential employer can type your name into Google and come back with a terrifying amount of information, perhaps updating your Facebook profile with that picture of yourself in blackface doing a keg stand at last year's Halloween party isn't all that wise.

Which is WHY I DON'T HAVE FACEBOOK. I want my personal pages to represent me, and all that is me. If people don't like it, they can fsck off. God, I am so tired of having to watch my ass IRL so that I dont offend anyone, or any potential employer. Now they want to snoop around my community-pages as well.
Love me like I am, pretentious and/or annoying images or not.

I approve of boobs.

But seriously? The article isn't specifically anti-boob:

"Images with negative connotations are photos of cars, which will lead visitors to a 'boy racer' conclusion and bikini shots which have a 'loves herself' feel."

"Pictures including children or shots taken on a beach are also good for one's image."

So bikinis are bad but beaches are OK. (WTF? Unless by bikinis they're referring to those annoying 'glamor' shots like the ones in the "That Doesn't Make You A Model" video.)

To be honest, unless they're front-and-center in the image or are being manipulated by someone, no one will care except horny 13 year olds (or mental 13 year olds) who somehow haven't yet found porn on the Internet.

I should just be glad that I have such a popular name that it requires a lot of patience to find my profile.

I don't even use a picture of me as a profile pic, so this solves a lot of my problems, but then again, it's a suicide bunny scrapping off his head with a grinder. So all that's gonna say about me is that I'm a dark dark person.

These were my thoughts exactly as well, but I was just wondering what others thought about because it's a simple fact of life that women have boobs (to some degree or another) and I think that unless they are displayed front and center as you said, there is no real issue there.

So, I'm not allowed to express my fandom for a character just because I am male and she is female?

...I'm not quite sure what to say.

For what it is worth, I do have a real picture of myself back on my profile page...
Okay, I'll note an exception for cosplay
BUT.
Only If you dress as the pretty version, NOT the slutty version, of the character.

I guess that I'm secretly reviled then. I exclusively use animated pictures, usually ponies.
Well I can think of at least ONE person who doesn't secretly revile you for using pony pics
*wink*
But you really don't use any pics of yourself? That would seem to indicate a sense of insecurity. But hey, your profile your rules.
No pictures exist of me on the internet. This is because of three things: 1) I don't take pictures that often. 2) I don't have a webcam. 3) I am illiterate in the ways of the digital camera.
So not insecurity. I have been bugged about it, so I might use a friend's webcam to just get it out of the way.
Or I can continue thinking of you as various ponies.

My pictures usually don't contain alcoholic beverages. But I certainly have pictures on which I have consumed enough of them and it generally shows.

Amazing times, though. Haters gonna hate.

My facebook profile picture is me dressed as George Foreman being generally terrifying. that sits uncomfortably close to 'picture of yourself in blackface doing a keg stand'

Bugger.
