What's RIGHT with the world?

For me it's manga, anime, jrpgs, video games (even ones I don't like I acknowledge as bringing something to the electronic media culture), Sci-fi, fantasy and Sci-fi/fantasy novels, and looking forward to the christmas holidays.

Am I the only one who was relatively resistant to the negativity of the other thread until they read this rampant appeal to commercialist escapism as the source of one's opinion of value in the world?

I mean... F**k! If this is what's right with the world, we might as well just give up now. All of that is escapism. None of that has anything to do with this world. It's all about running away from this world.

Wow I don't think I've ever had such a pessimistic reply to any of my posts.

The world isn't limited to the reality we live in, but also the many different venues which allows us to explore different imaginations.

I guess I should've been broaders and said the variety of stories, but I think someone mentioned it a while back.

as for the other stuff:

Walks in the forest or swimming in a glacial lake?

Nature can take a dump for all I care, I'm a city boy through and through. I prefer the roar of traffic while walking to the library and the hum of my pc and PS3 booting up.

Visiting an art gallery?

Oh please this is about as boring as it can get....I've been to my local art museum 3 times in my life...not once was it a willfull or enjoyable experience...just an hour of my life I can never get back.

Playing football with a group of friends?

Please, I don't like football as it is. People in padded clothing tackling each other to get a ball across chalk lines, never appealed to me, even if it's tag or some dumbed down version.

Having an MRI brain scan for the sake of psychological research?

I'm just going to say no...I've got other things to do....like read aforementioned manga, novels etc.

Debating the nature of politics, whether over a pint or with a club of interested participants?

yeah, why don't you sing me a lullaby while you're at it, and turn off the lights so I can get some sleep...

There is so much that's good in this world that doesn't involve jumping outside it for release. Hopefully you might get the chance to appreciate that.

There's no denying it, but to me, I love the stories that are presented and the very fact that we have them. In this world, where we have so much freedom that we have such great works of art in form of stories and I love that.

I enjoy other things, but these are at the top of my list.
