Best: Tie between Dualshock 3 and Gamecube. The both felt so right and fit the hand properly. Also, the buttons were in sensible places.
Worst: NES. There's just no curve at all >.<

best is the dualshock 3. it was close between dualshock 2 and 3, both have the best design ever in terms of hand comfort and buttons, but 3's flappy l2 and r2 buttons kinda bother me, but then again, 2 does not have wireless, and sometimes, the sixaxis is kinda fun with the 3, so prize goes to 3.

worst is also really close between colecovision and intellivision, both are 90s cellphones with a shiny turny part thing, but i personally think the intellivision looks slightly more retarded, so (winner?) goes to intellivision.

Highly dependent on the game, the best control system for any first person shooter or RTS is the mouse and keyboard. But hack and slash and fighting work better on a game-pad or arcade set up.

So my favourite control set up is the Razer Abyssus mouse with Razer Lycosa keyboard.

But in close second would be the PS3 game-pad as I am used to playing with my friends PS3.

The worst would have to be the N64 game-pad, it really has no strong points and is just plain unwieldy.

The best for me is the 360 wireless controller because that's just what I'm used to. The gamecube is definately in contention for my favorite though. The wired controller for the 360 sucks because once you get used to the wireless controller then when you get your hands on the light weight wired controller, it's kinda awkward.

The worst, by far, is the controller for the N64. It always felt like I needed a third hand to control it or take a hacksaw to the middle part of it. It's almost like the guys coming up with it decided to hot glue a dildo to the middle of a could-be acceptable controller.

The worst i've ever used was the N64 controller, it seriously hurt my hands to use it.

Other mediocre controllers would be:
The Xbox, it's so fucking large.
The Dreamcast, ditto on being massive.
I'm also not a big fan of any of the default PlayStation controllers, they just feel awkward in my hands and the PS3 one has no weight on it.

Best would be the 360, it fits my hands perfectly and feels nice and weighty.

am I the only one who despises the gamecube controller? I hate it.

The best is a tie between an N64 and the Xbox360. Nostalgia vs modernism.

EDIT:
I've seen most of the complaints against the N64 controller being, "LOL THE NIN64 HAS A THIRD THINGY. IT WUD BE BETTER WITHOUT IT."
The thing is that the joystick setup is a very comfortable setup when done properly. If the user wishes to use the Dpad, he or she can use it without any trouble; if the user prefers the joystick, then there is a setup for that too. Preference depends on the game. The only time the N64 controller fails is when the designers require the player to use both the L button and the Z button.

Best- tie between the Xbox 360 and Gamecube controllers.

Worst- Wiimote. I hate having to point it at the TV because it's impossible to rest my hands.

My favourite would have to be the Xbox 360 controller, mostly because it's more comfortable to hold and uses triggers rather than just another two buttons.

The worst I've used is one of those Playstation 2 third-party controllers. The closest I can find to the one I used is this:

Current:

Best- PS3 (Lightweight, virtually every version is chargeable and wireless unless bought from a different company)

Worst- Xbox and Xbox360 (Bulkier, weighs more, and the design makes it uncomfortable to hold the controller with all four Index/Pointing fingers on the shoulder and trigger buttons. Also seems to be a rip-off of the PS2/PS3 controller in a way, not a bad thing, but it feels like Microsoft just took the PS2 controller and re-arranged most of it. Another downside is that about 50% of Xbox controllers aren't re-chargeable and require batteries, though it can be fixed by buying a rechargeable battery pack.)

Older:

Best: NES (Simplistic beyond all reason, only about 2-4 buttons aside from the D-pad, and the majority of gamers young and old have probably held one of those bad boys in their hand's at one time or another)

Worst: Nintendo64 (...wha?...how?...which way do I hold this?...WHO THE F*** DESIGNED THIS!!!!!!!!!)

xbox 360 best for me

i dont have a worst really...perhaps dreamcast?

but i wanted to mention that i hate the triggers on the ps3 remotes...

they are so doughy and annoying...

playing an fps on them is frustrating for me..

other wise they are good...it might be because i am used to the clickier feel of xbox360 buttons and triggers

I like both the xbox 360 and ps3 controllers. I can hold either comfortably, although occasionally parts of my hand can fall asleep with the dualshock controllers.

I have normal sized hands, but I still preferred the original xbox controller over the s model. I played GTA San Andreas and KOTOR 1and 2 with it just fine with it on my lap. All my friends those day loved the s model controllers, while the s model gave me hand cramps.. so no one argued when I volunteered to use my roommate's old controller during our halo sessions.

Of course N64 had the worst controller. The shape, button layout, and fragility of it made it terrible.

BEST: 360- the bumpers and triggers are convient and comfortable. The two thumb sticks feel natural, and work well with the location of the D-pad and buttons.

WORST: Wii- Am I suppose to use the 1, 2, +, and - buttons regularly? If so, why are they a pain to use.

OT: Is it just me or does the Wiimote look like a sex toy

Best- Dualshock 2. It would be the Dualshock 3 but for the triggers that are very easy to activate accidentally when you put it down.

Worst- Wiimote. It's just... terrible. And bad.

None of the games I have require them to be used regularly, but they're still a pain in the ass.

Best: Xbox 360. I like the layout and it's balanced nicely.

Worst: PS3. It's too damn small, weighs nothing and just feels flimsy. Oh and I hate the triggers.
