Half Life Series.
My favorite two most likely are when you help Biggs and Sheckley fight against antlions or when you get the suit in HL1

Mine would have to be the first level music from "I MA3D A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1" XD Look it up, spend the 80 Microsoft Points.
I loved the music for sonic 3, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and the first game from the Half-life 2 quadrilogy (assuming ep 3 is the last one).
-edit- Also forgot the soundtrack to shin megami tensei: digital devil saga 2.

My thanks to the person who started this thread for leading me to spend an afternoon listening to the soundtracks of Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, Beyond Good and Evil, and Dreamfall.

Oh yeah, and then there's Rez HD. The game is the soundtrack is the game.

Wipeout for the Playstation. Arguably broke The Chemical Brothers into the mainstream.
Chemical brothers? They didn't make that soundtrack. It was this guy:

Though I do agree with you, the soundtrack made that game.

See also for good tunes:
-Einhander
-Just about all of the Castlevania games
-Ditto for megaman games
-Legacy of Kain: soul reaver
-All blizzard games - past, present, and future - have excellent musical scores
-Quake 1 and 2, Trent Reznor and Rob Zombie did great work for id software
-Suikoden. Not sure if the sequels had it so much but the first soundtrack is great

I better leave it there, there's tons of titles out there and I really could go on and on.

For reasons unknown, no one has mentioned the AoC soundtrack!

I also agree with Shadow of the Colossus. I never played the game and whether game music speaks to me is most often a matter of nostalgia and/or remembering a certain scene or mood along with the music, but SotC's OST touched me even though I've never played it (which I should, but that's another matter entirely).

Final Fantasy, ofc, but only the ones prior to FFX.

2832 songs on my iTunes, 1194 of which are game music... gotta love it!

Oblivion had a nice soundtrack and it wasn't pressed into your face... it was in the background and was hardly noticable like all soundtracks should be...

Sonic Mayhem scored the bulk of Quake II. Rob Zombie composed only the main theme (which was kickass too).
