What's the last AAA game you played that wasn't part of a preexisting IP?

Splatoon for sure. I think I've already gushed enough about Splatoon on this site, but I loooove it to death. Of course, now that it has sold very well, it will undoubtedly become a series. I can see there being a new Splatoon appearing on each Nintendo console like Smash Bros. or Mario Kart, and I am totally cool with that.

Aside from that, I guess it would be Codename STEAM on 3DS. Judging by the sales, it certainly won't be a franchise anytime soon.

OT: i was going to saw bloodborne but you said no spiritual successors. But i wouldn't really call it a spiritual successor, just made by the same creators.

If that doesn't count then destiny. The new expansion came out and i am loving it.
I'm really enjoying it so far, but I'm waiting a bit to make sure I don't grow too bored of it before I pick up any of the expansion DLCs for it.

BulletStorm back in May. Fun ride, kind of stinks it never got a true sequel - story didn't matter, but the mechanics were fun enough for 10 hours.
Before that it was Evolve in February-April. I maintain that's a legitimately good game with really fun mechanics and systems. The business model just seemed to intentionally strangle the playerbase and frighten away interested customers. Should have been free to play.

Uuuuuuh, Sunset Overdrive. Followed by Destiny and Borderlands. I still have to beat Sunset Overdrive actually, it just doesn't hold my attention for long.

Edit- Oh yeah, Dishonored too.

Bloodborne and Mad Max.
If those count as triple A that is.
To be fair, Mad Max is based off of the existing Mad Max IP.
But as far as AAA games go, I'd classify both as high-budget high-selling games.

You do have a good point there.
And admittedly, I didn't keep the movies in mind since we are talking about games in this topic.
And even then, there might've been a game based on the MM IP that I have missed.

Well, it would be Mad Max, but nothing I own can run it ;-;

*Looks over at gaming shelf*

Uhh, Spec Ops was a series on the PSX I believe sooooo...The Saboteur? Mirrors Edge (though hopefully not for long even though the gameplay trailer shows how much they're lying about it's capabilities.)

OH! Actually I have Kingdoms of Amalur sitting by my PS3. So that I guess. I see the purpose of this thread, it's depressing nonetheless.

Watchdogs, unless Styx Master of Shadows counts as a AAA game, though...I consider that an indie,
Styx: MoS is also a prequel to Of Orcs and Men so it is part of an existing IP.

Well I was going to say Warframe but I keep forgetting it's actually linked with Dark Sector.

So Dishonered since I replayed it recently.
Funny that's probably the same answer for me. I didn't really think of Warframe as an AAA game though what with the free play.
True, even if it wasn't for Dark Sector it still doesn't really count.

Word of warning. The only dlc that matters is The taken king. Anything before that is a shell of what those expansions were. Im not sure if you need all the DLC to play the taken king. But it may be cheaper to buy the legendary edition that buying them all seperately. And aparently the phsyical copy is cheaper than the digital one.

If you are going to buy DLC. Do some research first.

Alright. Only reason I was considering the House of Wolves and the other DLC (can't remember it's name offhand) was for story purposes, so if they aren't exactly that essential I may get Taken King next paycheque then.

I guess the winners so far are Bloodborne, Dishonored (2012!) and Splatoon.

I'm hearing a lot of South Park, Middle Earth and Mad Max, but I wouldn't count game tie-ins to books, movies or shows as 100% original IP, even if they eschew narrative continuity. They're still banking on name recognition. Mad Max is an obvious tie-in, and in the case of the former two, you might as well translate their titles (both of which are Title: Subtitle) as The Movie: The Game.

Sleeping Dogs. That's AAA, right? If not I might be in a bit of a bind. This really is much more difficult than I had originally thought after reading the title. The first Mass Effect should count as I started a replay recently, though I don't get any bonus points for that one.

Put another mark in the Destiny camp. I like my gothy space-witch! Plus, she just graduated to Sith status ;3

Well, I've recently been playing through the original system shock. Although, the concept of AAA and indie didn't really exist when that game came out.

I think the newest original AAA game I've played is dead space, which is 7 years old now. Yeah, I'm not too up to date on video games.
