What has been different in each game that warrants 60 dollars?

I do love the series though, it keeps the stupid people off my games.
but how do you get rid of the arrogent people?
forcing them to spell "arrogant" properly =p jkjk, but for future reference

and sadly, arrogant people will always be in video games. go to the bungie forum and you will see what i'm talking about. most of the people on that forum are either complete idiots or complete idiots who think their k/d in big team battle makes them a god. even in games with large skill gaps, the people on the upper end of the skill gap tend to be arrogant douchecones.
I was hoping you'd mention Bungie's Reach forum.
It's very difficult to maintain faith in humanity after visiting that forum.

haters gonna hate.

Nothing wrong with a simple run and gun that has tight controls and gets the adrenaline pumping.

Why does everyone just want innovation in something. sure some people might want a good expensive innovative meal, but sometimes we just want a good ol burrito. and Call of Duty can be considered a burrito.

Because it's going to be the same shit, different year. And it will sell more copies than any entertainment thing ever despite that. Again. Believe me, I am happily anticipating the day where one of two things happens.

1. People realize that they've been playing the exact same fucking game for upwards of 4-5 years now. So that year's game and the series as a whole crashes and burns in deliciously tragic flames.

2. Someone on the dev team realizes Number 1 is going to happen if they don't actually change things. Then that year's Call of Duty will actually evolve compared to the last one.

I'd love for the first to happen because I love to she shit that doesn't deserve its success to die painfully. I wouldn't mind the 2nd option because it would mean that the dev team realizes they can't keep pulling this shit forever.

I kind of miss cod 1 and 2, they used to be some pretty awesome games, but people don't even remember those existed anymore...

(still nobody will ever steal my heart from deadly dozen. I will love it forever and ever!)

I like COD. All of them. Well... the campaigns at least.

They always manage to find some way to include one or two perks or features that fuck the multiplayer up for everyone, whether it be 3XFrag, Martyrdom, Noob Tubes, OMA, Commando, MP40 Jugg, Ghost, Second Chance, horrible hit detection....

Yet the way the game feels, plays and controls keeps me coming back. No other shooter feels as fluid and responsive to me (big part of that is due to 60FPS).

I think its just that there are much better games out there that deserve CODs level of financial success and popularity.
The problem I have with this argument is that if the game deserves the financial success it could get it with enough effort from the publisher, but let's face it, marketing isn't that great when it comes to gaming. If a publisher had put enough focus on advertising for games that are "much better" as you put it then they could see the same success. Hating one game, because another game has a publisher that hasn't planned ahead, or isn't doing advertising after the launch is just dumb.

I think the main reason MW3 is facing so much scrutiny is because the CoD series has run for so long and hasn't changed much. The series was once praised for the way it flowed, trying to keep the characters as human as possible. In Black Ops, the focus seemed more like watching a series of explosions, both on-screen, and plot related, nothing flowed, the characters were all gritty and dark, almost completely unlikable, and for a game that called itself "Black Ops" it didn't seem to have as much subtlety, it was almost schizophrenic in it's action sequences. MW3 seems to have only gotten worse, with, scripted explosions that are supposed to convey the truth that this is the s**t hitting the fan, but comes off as trite action, just another explosion in a screen filled with them.

Overall, MW3 doesn't stand out much, the series is spreading itself over to many fronts like the Nazis you defeated in the first game did back in 1945, and, in the same way, has suffered for it's lack of real continuity.

On a less spoken note, how many main protagonists have there been in the MW series? And I wonder if the main character will meet the same fate that his predecessor in MW2 met.

Calling CoD repetitive is dumb off the top of my head I can name two game franchises that are more repetitive than CoD.

Pokemon. Count how many pokemon games there are including spin offs, you'll be counting a long time.

Final Fantasy. 15 games I haven't played a single one of them but 15 games is a lot CoD is up to 8 or 9 and they always add different modes or playlists to them.

CoD has good multiplayer. There's a reason so many people play it, there are definitely games that 'deserve' it more for example the battlefield franchise but CoD is a great game either way.

Mostly theres games ppl hate with a passion. I will probably love MW3 until the next modding wave hits (god my mailbox was filled with pay me for something that will make u look good), Halo was a game i used to love,(kids get annoying fast.) and without bungie, its just dead now. GoW, always liked the gameplay,(never could get the switch to shotgun/hammerburst online down right), but now i just wanna see the stroy end. If you love a game, dont listen to trolls. Its impossible to reason with something with low intellgence/poor self-esteem.

Just because somebody doesn't like a game doesn't make them a troll/doesn't mean they have low intelligence or poor self esteem. Don't say stupid shit like that.

Like at least one person has said, it's less that they aren't changing the game mechanics, and more that they are charging $60 per game when it's only a re-skinned MW2.

Modern Warfare 3 is getting hate? You should have seen Modern Warfare 2. I think EA has succesfully redirected fire from Activision. Youknow EA, always helping out their fellow publishers. Being nice to eachother *Heartwarming*

Fellow Escapee's I would love for some feedback on this because I really don't get it and to be honest I'd like some insight to the hate that Halo and Gears get too.

So this is my problem, I use IGN a lot and on the trailers and previews and stuff people comment (like you do) and on COD pieces (no pun) there is so much hate towards it, personally I love the games and if it weren't for dues ex coming out next week I'd be working out a way to fix my black ops, but I read the comments and they are all so stupid for multiple reasons, from the the somewhat intelligent people "Why do people buy this game it never changes?" to the people who just give me more reasons to hate them "Anyone who plays this game is gay". I cannot for the life of me realise why people hate the game, it's fun, millions of people love the series, it's a given some of them aren't the smartest bunch but still the core mechanics don't need to change cause they work so well and then they are just minor additions on top of that to enhance the experience but at the end of the day the most important thing is that the games are just fun and that's why I buy games and most likely why you guys do but if you think you have a good explanation to why there is so much hate to these games then please don't be afraid to answer.

Also, Halo and Gears, is there deserved hate there? GOW2 was a huge letdown because THEY changed the core mechanics and I don't know why but Halo just get's boring after a bit but there still good experiences while they last so yeah what do you guys think?
Did anyone say "searchbar" yet? Yes? Seventeen so far? OK.

A whole lot of gamers are immature adolescents who don't yet know enough about the world to persuade a girl to kiss them. That's as good an answer as you'll ever need, bearing in mind that "___ hate" is not at all the same thing as "I'm tired of seeing them make $60 games that last for four hours and replace compelling gameplay with pretty cut scenes in the ___ series." Some of the latter accusations that have been leveled at MW3 are more than fair, and some are exaggerated.

Again Haters gonna Hate, if you personally enjoy the game then ignore them. I'm not a fan of said series of games (mostly because i have a hatred for Activision) but i let people who enjoy the game enjoy the game.
Every time I read haters gonna hate I think of Dave Chappell's R. Kelly parody.

I enjoy the series, and I only started playing since MW2... It is different to all the other games I have played (I was a Medal of Honour fan, but the latest medal of honour killed that series for me...)

As a reasonably new player to the series, I cant wait for MW3 to come out. I found Black ops was a better game than Battlefield 2, mainly because BF2 forced on me, along the same lines as CoD games are forced upon people as being bad games...

The sooner people stop making threads like this and the threads "Why to people like ________" "Why dont people like _________" etc, the sooner people will have the ability to make up thier own minds on the games... and stop feeling presured into hating / liking things...

Now I know this will generate hate (I Hope not, but I'm expecting it...) So I appologise in advance that I am nearly totaly unaffected by peer pressure...

I think it's coz it's cool to hate something popular LOL!!!!111
Naw, honestly, the bandwagon hating thing occurs in lots of pop culture, and applies to anything including games. Same reason I feel why some people hated Metallica and KoRn, and Michael Jackson, Halo and COD.

But also I think because, well to me anyways, the first time to CoD franchise exploded on the scene in this generation was CoD4: MW, and since then has done little to top that or even reach its greatness. I like spec ops in MW2, but that's about it really. I know I'm not talking for the masses, I mean the game is loved by millions and I had a thoroughly good time in all the games, but their recycling of material, and resulting fanbase are bound to expose every nuance of wrong in the games. Such as balancing, story, features and functionality, and all the rest of it.

Another thing (should've put these in point form, damn) is the overshadowing of other games that probably deserve as much accolade, but get beaten to dust and forgotten because of the CoD franchise. I liked the latest Medal of Honor, and some other more realistic shooters, which many never bother to try because of the juggernaut that is CoD.
