Well, I personally like iron sights, so that's my reasoning. Then again, it made me actually *kind of* like a gun I normally don't like to look at so...

I remember way back when my friends and I played Day of Defeat that Iron Sights were considered cheating. You would get banned from steam if you were running any of the iron sight mods.

That's probably why there isn't a dynamic wind system yet. There's no need for it. When the time comes that games need to be THAT realistic, a dynamic wind system will be made. [...] A dynamic wind system will be made when it's needed.
It has been done.

See: Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2)

It is THE most advanced combat simulation on the planet. It was developed by Bohemia Interactive and is used for training by the ADF, U.S. Marines, and the British Army as well (see JCOVE Lite). It models dynamic wind, weather, tides, and just about everything else you would normally take for granted in the real world. Hell, it even models constellations based on their location on any given month of any given year! Not that such things are terribly important, but it was done nonetheless.

VBS2 has a little brother - ArmA 2. It contains many of it's predecessor's features, but in a more watered-down form. VBS2 as a complete package can run from $15,000 and up! At least, it did when it was first released.

So, would this system have any real significance in a game like GTA4? No, not really. However, I felt compelled to point out after reading several of the above posts that yes, a dynamic wind system does exist.

Thanks. I knew that it was possible but Ultratwinkie just wasn't having it.

You wanted your wind dynamic and you got it. Can't be that difficult to do if it's been done with this AND ARMA 2 now can it? I completely forgot that the ARMA games have done this already. These games are a few years old but there you have it. A dynamic wind system. Thanks tsb247.

No problem.

I am an avid, "ArmAholic," and have been following Virtual Battlespace and the ArmA series since the original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis.

VBS2 is generally leaps and bounds ahead of the casual gaming world when it comes to generating a realistically simulated environment. It may not be the prettiest (although ArmA 2 and OA can generate somebreathtaking scenery), but is certainly can be argued that it is the most thurough. Wind, tides, moon phases, constellations, insects that buzz around your face... It's all been done, and very well I might add.

If you didn't watch that tech demo in my post, I would suggest doing so. It is quite interesting to see all of the detail they went into, and the other two video expand on it even more. The websites also provide some nice info as well.

I just find it sad that VBS2 is

A.) VERY EXPENSIVE

and

B.) The U.S. version is only available to military personnel since it was developed using DoD funding. In other words, the software is U.S. Government property. At least, that is my understanding.
