I quit two games around the same time: Catherine and Alien: Isolation. The former was pretty hard, but the main reason I quit these games was less to do with the game difficulty, and more to do with the mental difficulty. These two games made me so stressed! The constant diligence and time sensitivity they require was driving me nuts, especially as I tend to like taking my time in games.
Oh, and I've never finished the last ten minutes of Far Cry 1 because of an absurd difficulty spike in a volcano crater. I've never been able to figure out whether the big bastards with rocket shooting hands are best shot in the head or in the big green light on their chest.
