Besides, why would you arm your soldiers with flashlights unless you had more flashlight troopers than enemies?
Because those "flashlights" are complex laser weaponry that's easy to manufacture and extremely cheap and pretty much impossible to destroy by wear and tear. They're not the space marines and they can't go lugging around big guns that shoot rockets. They're just humans and they can be outnumbered.

Particularly by Tyranids.
And that complex laser weaponry is S3 AP-.

The Guard can and do get outnumbered by Tyranids and Orks, but that's pretty much it. Plus, neiter of those armies have the kinds of heavy vehicles like the Guard do, so numbers are their biggest strength. The Guard have plenty of options in their armies, but the most common ones I've played against with my Tau use about twice as many troops as I have.

Numbers may not be all the Guard have going for them, but they outnumber enemies more often than not.

Space Marines all the way.
While i like the Space Wolves whole general *feeling*, i fell in love with the Ultramarines since i first got a glimpse of them in one of the old Codex's. I read about how they were the first to achieve victory over the Tyranids on Ultramar. I got hooked and played them.
Never regretted it.

Playing Guard more often than not, that is very, very true. Only games I've ever been outnumbered were, in fact, against Tyranids.

Yes. Yes, it is.

Yes, I know. I'm not saying they're -always- outnumbered, but because they fight a battle against Orks, Tyranids, Necrons and anything else the galaxy throws at them, lore-wise, the Imperium is often outnumbered, because often their Imperial guard are scattered, fighting many different enemies at once. Although, if a WAAAAGH and a hive fleet met an Imperial Crusade, that would be interesting.

On the table-top, it's possible for the Tyranids and Orks to outnumber them sometimes, but rarely.

Indeed. Indeed, they do.

Chaos is my master!

Forever since the beginning of the 40k figurines. I played a little of Warhammer Online, but I have really been looking forward to a 40k MMO.

Oh. Looks like we were thinking about two different things there. And indeed, I agree with you lore-wise. They must outlaw birth control in the Imperium in order to keep the Guard at full strength haha!

Chaos all the way. In any game or in the actual tabletop game from which all the other stuff originated. I even play chaos in other varieties of Warhammer. I really like the Imperium's background but get very annoyed with the ridiculous number of Space Marine armies that get their own codexes, which seems a bit unfair on all the armies with outdated codexes that need redoing. But no GW will do ANOTHER marines codex before Dark Eldar or Necrons get their two-edition-out-of-date codexes re-done!

Seriously though, I'm more of a Fantasy player {Yes we do play video games as well} but I really love chaos. I even played a whole army of Imperial Guard and modelled them all to look like chaos.

Although tanks do rock indeed.
The number of Imperial Guard Tanks has passed the point of silliness and is now fast approachign the event horizon. Unless you're talking about the video games, in which case this is not quite so true.

Pics please

Hmm all sons of sagnius are awesome, my favorite however are those that never show their faces Angels Sanguine I belive they are called. Havent got much info about them, but their colors are cool and nice background.

Or Salamanders, the only Astartes that puts defending humanity above gaining glory by slaying the Emperors foes.

Or Vostroyan Firstborn, cool in every way.

Or maybe I should try to stick with one, but its so darn hard.

I think they just make a lot of clones of every born baby. I mean a lot. Several thousand, possibly.

[small]That's why so many models look similar.[/small]

I'm tied between 3...

Space Marines: Simply because they look Bad ass and have amazing back story, favorite branch of them is the Blood Ravens because of the games.

ORKS: "Look at me Flash boss" The funniest, Craziest and are just pure awesome...DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA XD

and the Tau...because they seem the most...good, in that universe and the fact i love Combat suites.

hmmmm...decisions decisions

I'm going to go with necrons. They are pseudo-invincible beings driven by the need to eradicate life in the universe, adn will only stop when a God orders them to.
Nobody else can win.Eventually, they will achive their goals.

However,IG came close second.Facing the worse the universe has to offer with flak suits and a shiny piece of metal.Respect.

...Dark Eldar will spontaneously combust if you stare at them long enough, the Necrons will just up and leave if you know what to shoot long enough, and the Chaos Daemons will just sit in a corner crying while getting shot to pieces.
OK took me a bit to get my laughter under controll since in essence that is so true.

Yet it makes it all the more fun when my cardboard boxes of doom, aka the Dark Elder Raider troop transport, mop up an entire flank while they where distracted by the Talos that was never a threat to began with.

I started with Tau. Loved them, but was seduced by Chaos (probably that damned Slaanesh!). I more of a Chaos Undivided supporter, but if I had to choose one particular legion of Chaos it would be the Iron Warriors. Always loved them, but the idea of making them look like Iron Warriors was daunting.

Even though Tzeentch is my preferred Chaos God; "Blood for the Blood God!" "Skulls for the Skull Throne!" and all that good stuff.

Oh, can anyone numerically list the Horus Heresy series? I can't figure out which is the bloody second in the series.
The second one is "False Gods". Very, very good book, 'specially the end...

On topic, I started as Eldar (they look so damn cool) but I turned to Chaos fairly soon after. Just love the fact that their gods undeniably exist, and the way you get rewarded for having fun if you worship them.
Although I quite like Grey Knights aswell, just love that shiny armour :D

Grey Knights/Inquistition first, Imperial Guard second mostly for the tanks and Commisar Gaunt. But I just love the Inquistion, the most expensive and most elite space marines that there are, and force weaponry!

All units have at least 6 strength and storm bolters, plus if you remember to use it the shrouding will really fuck up the enemy's shooting turn. Roll 3 dice and times it by 3 to see how far they can shoot and if they're too far they can't shoot anything else, will probably triple the game length but messes with shooty armies such as Tau.

And I have a love affair with Inquistors, read Eisenhorn and Ravenor! I love going to great big daemons with a relatively unassuming man and halving their initiative and doubling my strength with a daemon hammer and grimore of true names.

PS. Read everything written by Dan Abnett ever!
