I have a real soft spot for the Imperial Guard, especially the Catachan models...who needs flak armour, I'm gonna take on that Carnifex wearing a wife beater and some cargo trousers! However, aside from the odd few models, I haven't been able to build a guard Army due to it being so ridiculously expensive. I made an Infantry heavy armylist a while back and discovered it would be well over £500.

Deep down though, Chaos are my favourite. Superhumans who fell due to their humanity. You can make them spit acid and give them an extra heart, but you can't take away the pride, anger, greed and jealousy which turn men on each other. Night Lords, Iron Warriors, Death Guard and to a lesser extent the Word Bearers all really appeal to me. Last I heard though, unless you took a certain list they sucked, which put me off, seeing as I like "fluffy" army lists and a Lash Whip Demon prince with 9 Obliterators or whatever the crazy overpowered list was, just doesn't feel right.

Imperial Guard. Mainly because their buildings actually look like the kind of buildings you'd see on a battle field. Plus they remind me of the pill-box gun nests dotted around the UK from the WWII which is kinda cool.

Oh and their artillery is just flat out awesome. I want a Basilisk on my driveway!

Tyranid. They're basically Zerg (either inspired by, or the inspiration for) to the point that half of their buildings look like they've been pulled straight out of the Creep.
Considering WH40K is over 30 years old, i think blizz got inspiration from them

There is a (credible) rumour that Starcraft was originaly going to be a 2D 40K RTS, but that GW ultimatelly pulled out, leaving Blizzard to salvage what they could, thus creating Starcraft.

I always liked the Tyranids. When I first started playing I saw a carnifex and said "I want some of those."

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!
Oh, and Chaos space marines, specifically the Alpha Marines. I just love the background behind them. I've even considered making a "loyalist" Alpha Legion army using the Space Marine Codex.

Hear, hear! The Space Marines ALWAYS get all the new updates before anyone else. The Necrons and Dark Eldar haven't had a Codex remake since 3rd edition. Instead they decided to remake the Space Marine Codex TWICE and create several coexs for irregular Chapters (Black Templar, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, and Blood Angels). Although I think that they were "discontinuing" the Dark Eldar (not sure, I've heard that they might remake them soon) but the Necrons didn't even get a remake in the last edition. Stupid Space Marines hogging all the attention. Grumble, grumble, grumble.
And I would also like a remake of Daemonhunters and Witchhunters (even if they just lump them
and Ordo Xenos together as the Inquition).

The Tau seem to be the one race that isn't completely evil, and appears to have the best chance of not being horrifically murdered. Also, they get rail-guns mounted on mechs.

Makes sense, as pretty much everything in Starcraft but the protoss looks close enough to 40k IPs that GW could have sued if they'd wanted to (and GW have some serious clout).

As for the original post, I side with the Tau every time. Sure, they're a bit communist, but frankly they seem to make marxism work and are forced into resorting to violence in their expansion due to the warlike nature of the 40k universe as a whole. After all, it would seem that anyone who bows to the greater good gets treated exceptionally well, allowed to keep their own culture etc, whereas there hasn't seemed to be any peaceful opposition so far. Of course, staying put in a tiny part of space is not an option, else they'd just get eaten or exterminat(us)ed. So, yeah, marxists forced into a more communist ethic by those around them.

Which is of course better than the ridiculously Naziesque fascism that is embodied by the xenophobic, zealous, hateful warmongering imperium. I mean really, everything about them screams fundamentalism integrated into military might and then taken to the extreme. Frankly, the imperium is worse even than chaos, as at least chaos isn't deluded about what it is. The Imperium has this misguided sense of self importance when in fact it brings just as much mindless evil to the galaxy as it holds at bay.

I play Space Marines, but their not my favourite.

My favourite are the Tyranids, followed by the Tau. They are, in my opinion, the only two races in the entire 40k universe who are not evil. Tyranids are too much like non-sentient bugs to really be evil or good.

I favor the Eldar. Their complete dedication to their abilities coupled with their grace under such desperation is very appealing.

Necrons. Slow but inevitable. They are death incarnate.

Huh, that sounded kinda creepy reading it back. Still, it's the whole concept behind an undead race, which is fundamentally what they are. Like zombies. A slow, shuffling but unavoidable end :D
