It's actually not. I'm saying that and I love tau too.

Tau. They just seem to be the most interesting of the factions, to me atleast. Not to mention they have the coolest hypocritical catchphrase of them all. "For the Greater Good!" they shout as they kill thousands of enemies.

Not to mention-

This is also my reasoning

Tau.

The only race that accepts other races into their empire, more so then the EGs Ogrins. Im talking entier planets of kroot and vaspid, as well even some humans and its even likely that some eldar planets support the greater good.

so yer, i started collecting them a weekago 2morrow. My first warhammer40k army :p

And then of course there are the two theories, each worse than the last:

Theory 1- The three Hive Fleets that wrecked everyone's shit so far and have only been beaten back at great cost are just little tiny tendrils of a much-greater force to follow and nomnom everyone, or;

Theory 2- The sudden emergence of the Tyranids en masse means that, like wild animals in a forest fire, they are actually running away from something...

Take your pick. We're all fucked either way.
Hooray, someone else who's come up with theory #2! I do think that there's something out there that totally effed the Tyranids, and that the Hive Fleets are the remnants of their race.

But, for side, definitely the Space Marines. They get plenty of vitriol because of how popular they are, but I do enjoy they're whole "noble defenders of humanity" schtick. And the whole "it's suicide, but by the Emperor we shall win" thing is pretty cool too.

I read the codex some time way back, the story was from imperial files that stated that they had discovered an alien race in early development that they were going to "cleanse" but was postponed due to a 6000 year warp storm. when the tau emerged they came walking about with high tech weapons and whatnot. Also considering they have better rifles, jet packs that increase mobility rather than let you jump higher in the air, and plasma weapons that DON'T over heat. They've made advancements that the Imperium has yet to master.

Hooray! Another person with theory #2! I do think that the Tyranids are the remnants of their race, fleeing from something worse than them.

But, sides-wise, I have to go with the Space Marines. Despite the flak people throw at them for being popular, I do like the "valiant defenders of humanity" and the "it's a suicide mission, but by the Emperor we shall succeed" things they've got going.

Space marines- dark angels

we seek redemption for our mistakes.

the dark angels know they fucked up but instead of trying to push it under the carpet they are going to set things right even if it takes them thousands of years.

I'm pretty sure that the 'Nids Hivemind is actually the 4th C'Tan- The Outsider.

So yeah, between the Void Dragon (all priase to the Omnissiah!) about to wake up on Mars and and the Outider leading his waves of organic killing machines, the 40K galaxy is pretty much screwed.
Wow I never thought about that...
I mean it wouldn't be the first time the C'Tan manipulated a race.
Void Dragon and all..
How could the Outsider be the Hive Mind?

There's another theory as part of the story of where the tyranids came from. Imperium records suggest that based on their nature to devour whole worlds, it's likely that they originate from a whole different galaxy entirely. It also suggests that it's possible that they migrated to our galaxy because they had fully devoured the previous one they occupided.

The Tau, i like their motives and the delicatel balance between grace and firepower intrigues me; sure they don't have much in tge way of CQC but when you have a lasgun that can burn a man in half before he can get within 20ft of you, who needs a knife?
For the Greater Good.

when you got so many guardsmen after you, how can you possibly hope to shoot all of them?

I must say, I'm surprised at the overall popularity of the Tau in this forum. I remember when they came out a lot of players were "OMG Tau is TEH GHEY!!!11! 40K IS RUINED 4EVER!!!"

... and I was among them. The Tau were just... too different, too anime-ish, too "Warhammer 40K: The Next Generation".

But I must admit their fluff and battlefield performance ultimately won me over, even though a lot of people went so far as to quit 40K in protest at the time. I especially like how the Kroot secretly despise the Tau and only joined them for the noms. :p

Point being, I do think their popularity is disproportionate to their influence in the overall 40K universe (the only ones I can think that have a less impact on the universe are the Dark Eldar), but they are a fun army to take on, and I believe we are witnessing the first steps in the Tau universe that show us that even their "For the Lesser Evil" philosophy is starting to collapse within itself.

Submunition shot from a rail gun = large template blast, versus guardsmen that equals about a whole squad dead in one shot. GG

But there are more where those came from. And Emperor forbid I'm taking Col. Chenkov with his "Human Wave" rule.

What's that? You just killed an entire platoon of guardsmen? Well, here's another at no extra cost.

Oh, you killed those too?

Well, here's another.

And so on, and so on...

I've played Tau since day one introduction of the race, still my favourite now
