Personally I think the PS3 is the better bet the 360 doesn't seem to get that many decent games that don't just appear on the PC anyway.
Even from seeing the latest Cryengine 3 footage the PS3 seems to lack a lot of shadow quality over the 360 I have yet to see the working examples of the PS3's Ultimate power! sure it has nice looking games but its hardly like comparing farcry to crysis in 360 to PS3 terms.

This is biased. Just a forewarning.

I spend every moment of my spare time on the internet. That's not an exaggeration. When not on the laptop as I am now, I'm undoubtedly on the 360. You can talk about the great online service; the plethora of great (and often exclusive) titles, and describe 1080p HD till the cows come home, but where the fun really lies is in the friendship.
Yeah, I know I sound like a Disney character but I'm right: the best moments of my 360 gameplay have all been with my best friends. Whether it was making maps in Forge, squadding online in CoD4, guiding each other through the Capital Wasteland or ganging up on the nastier achievements of Left 4 Dead, friends gave back my money's worth for the 360 and so much more.

I think I've said enough :)

2-360 the end of it's life is not true, ever heard of Natal?
Natal = EyeToy.
I should by a PS3 just to drop rocks on it. Cause we were all thinking it, really.

I love that you can change your... thing and it just goes from demented monkey to demented monkey at a Cosplay festival.

Hello, thanks for the informative answers. Although some people seem a bit biased. I will kindly disregard anyone who cannot point out anything which is better on the "other" console :)

Regarding exclusives... Left 4 Dead is hardly a 360 exclusive since I have here on my Steam account. Splinter Cell: Conviction seems to be coming to be coming to the PC as well. Though I must say I'm extremely interested in Alan Wake as it seems kind of Silent Hill-ish and the PC version has apparently been cancelled.

What are the exclusives for the PS3 right now and what exclusives are in the making?
The PS3 exclusives that seem suited for your game style are Uncharted 1 and 2, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, and maybe even Fat Princess. Also, Heavy Rain looks amazing. I also forgot about Modnation Racers and MAG.

[ Bluray player (better for gaming), better graphics capabilites.

Ok Bluray is not better for gaming due to the fact of the run speed of the disk. A Bluray disk only runs at 8mb a sec as a standard disk runs at 16mb a sec. What people don't understand yet is when the ps3 starts to use the graphics to the full then the lag effect of the bluray disk will show the ps3 hardware may be able to far but they will have to have a lot of the game on the HDD to play it.

360 Has far better shadows
As for Bluray it doesn't effect game quality at all because the textures will get installed on the hardrive which are far faster than optical media plus every PS3 has one.

Hello fellow gamers,

I'm not much for Final Fanatasy or MGS games as I'm (naturally as a PC gamer) more of an FPS guy.
This sentence spelled out the answer perfectly. Go with the 360. You're just like me, and the 360's games are much more suited to your interests. Its fragility and breakdowns are a pain in the ass, but you say you play PC too so you should be able to deal with the small time your 360 is busted, if that happens at all. I'm sure the newer 360s are much more RROD-safe. It's a small price to pay for the great games and great Xbox Live service. Well, you've gotta pay for that too, but it's still worth it.

If you were a PC gamer, then the 360 would be a pretty easy transition.
But when you think about it.Going from PC to Xbox 360 would be such a little move on from the PC world.

As I see it, the two are largely interchangeable. The real difference you need to decide on is which system has exclusive games you want and which one you think looks and feels better. Don't let fanboys convince you on all this other junk, its mostly minor things that nobody even cares about. Fanboys like to point out ever excruciatingly minor point that marks the difference in system and say how superior it is. Also, try using both systems (by asking a friend or going to a game store) before hand to experience them hands on.

Hmm, well with a decent gaming PC you can get most 360 exclusives already, so if you get a PS3 you'll be able to run a larger variety of games. The 360 has better online than the PS3 (save for the occasional 12 year old brats), but if you're already doing most/all online play with your PC, then it's not worth the $50 if you don't use it. The quality of multi-platform games on each console depends more on which game you're talking about. For example the 360 has the advantage of DLC for them. The PS3 gives you more exclusives (and in my opinion better upcoming ones) and blu ray though.

On a sidenote the 360 does still RROD so if you choose it the best thing you can do is try to keep it clean and don't over-use it.

If you feel you must get a ps3 then wait till it has at least a few decent titles and drops way down in price.
What year are you living in? You realise the PS3 just dropped $100 to the same level as a 360, and if you're honestly expecting anything more (god forbid because that would make you rather ignorant) then I'll tell you now it won't happen for a while at best. And it DOES have "a few decent titles". Seriously try some more suble flame bait.

What year? It fucking happened 4 days ago. And that still differs depending on the country. God I hate fanboys. You idiots whine any time someone says the slightest thing against your beloved black piece of shit. -.-;
Next time. Don't quote me. I really could not care less what you have to say.
The year-thing was referencing games, not the price cut sorry for not clearing that up. Though to be honest I'd bet he lives in the US of A where -surprise surprise- they did just cut the price.

I'm a fanboy? No offense, but so far all you've done here is callled the PS3 a black piece of shit with no titles at all. You're not really in a position to complain. Course I'd rather be a fanboy than someone who resorts to calling people idiots via the internets instead of putting meaning in their posts.

Let's calm down people.

While the MSRP of the PS3 has been lowered to the same as the 360, in practice, the retail offers for the 360 is still better, at least here in Sweden. Over here, a quick search on a price comparison website tells me that the 360 Premium is even cheaper than the Wii (what are Nintendo smoking these days?).

I have an xbox 360 and i love it, not just because of all of the exclusive titles like halo 3, mass effect and gears of war, but also because of all the great arcade games on the marketplace

No decent titles? Well I guess that's if your totally oblivious to anything that has to do with Sony because apparently you've never heard of: Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Infamous, Fat Princess, Flower, and Motorstorm. I will admit though that the 360 currently has a few decent games, but soon, the PS3 will be dominating the 360. And I'll be glad tell you all of the amazing exclusives coming out for PS3. So take that with a grain of salt.

I say get a sega genesis, it already has a full library of games, and it has two expansions, various console variations!

Get whatever system that has more games that appeal to you, we're not going to tell you any different I don't think anyway.

Some things that you didn't list:

PS3 slim will be the same price as the 360. The 360 charges 60$/year (correct?) for live, while playing the PS3 online is free.

Great PS3-exclusive FPS' that I know of include Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. Uncharted and Infamous are also worth checking out.

The only great 360 FPS exclusive that I know of is Halo 3. Gears of War and Mass Effect are popular non-FPS exclusives.

I wouldn't know what to recommend really seeing as both consoles have their pro's and con's. I did use to own a 360 in 2007 but sold it at the start of this year because I had played all the awesome games on 360 and was really looking forward to Sony's lineup of exclusives in 2009-2010.

I'd like to see the exact screen shots side by side, rather than out of sync, because the CryEngine 3 shows the PS3 to have way better particle effects e.g. smoke, explosions, than the 360, which seemed to suffer from bad FPS when it came to shadows (the falling tree).
? those shots are side by side its excatly the same scene using the same assets and from the same video it isn't 100% perfect because the shot panned to the PS3 and I couldn't completly eliminate the blur because he moves the scene straight away. Nothing that would change the fact that the shadow quality on the 360 was much higher
in fact

Even here you can see the higher 360 shadows unfortunatly showing the better partical effects and Physics calaculation of which the PS3 will mop the floor with the 360 cannot be shown off in a screen shot and nor has there been any decent side by side footage shown of such effects.

I can only speak for the 360 since I don't have a PS3. I don't think you need to worry about the 360 going away anytime soon since MS has said they are in it for the long haul. As for the RROD the newer models have better componets but nothing is ever failsafe. Just keep it well ventilated, lay it down horizonally, and don't do something stupid like move it when it's reading a disc or spill water on it and it'll be fine.
