Oh what the hell? What the hell is this comic? Seriously? You guys think this comic is accurate? That it's slinging hard truths? Are you really, by some unfathomable mental gymnastics, able to rationalize it as anything other than a strawman argument based on offensive stereotypes?

And for fuck's sake, stop bringing up "euphoric". The quote that came from was a parody to begin with.
Who said it was accurate and slinging hard truths? I've read the entire thread, but I started this morning so maybe I missed that part.

I'd say it takes a bit more mental gymnastics to think this comic was actually meant to be an argument as opposed to just mocking parody.

The comic is basically on the same level as this

So what, you lot are offended by a mocking comic and have to accuse it of making an argument when it's just mocking? You seem to have nothing to say about what I actually asked and posted.
It was making an argument in the first panel. Then it suddenly brings in straw opponents of that argument to mock. So it's exactly like the cartoon I just posted.
Okay so you're incredibly offended by it and lying about it.

It showed an argument. It did not make one against those people. There being an argument in it does not mean it is making that argument. The point of the comic does not seem to be about his argument, it seems to be to mock people who react poorly to it. Not by saying it actually represents them.

But please, keep insisting repeatedly. I'm sure you'll consistently fail to give a reason to think it was trying to present anything but a mockery.
I have you just insist I haven't. That seems to be a pattern with you. If after 3 or 4 posts you haven't convinced the person they're right you start getting condescending, nitpicky and more insistent .
Notice how unlike you I actually said something about the comic and what is in it. You just complain about me instead of replying to the refutation. WGDF ftw I guess?
I've already said something about the comic. That it paints one side as calm and reasonable and then has a bunch of opponents to that view who act like idiots who shout irrelevant crap. It's like a bad political cartoon (incidentally I got that image from an article about bad political cartoons).
Yes, it's pairing a straight man with some lunatics. That's a commonly used trope in comedy.
Also a commonly used trope by pundits and in political cartoons.
Yes, because political cartoons, though they often fail, usually at least strive for some degree of light comedy, and so do some pundits, if we're talking about the likes of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.

So do I get my ban now, or later?
Your edit would be more effective if that had been the response the black man had actually received. But then, if it was, he in turn would likely have also used a different argument. Different reasonings deserve different responses afterall. But I'm assuming you're either trolling for attention, or incapable of understanding that different situations are different?
Not even my shoop, but it kinda highlights how dumb that sentence is.
Except that sentence isn't dumb, because there's a perfectly valid reasoning behind it. Most video game characters/heroes are white. Not all the people who play video games are white. Some of them are black. A larger % of the video game playing population is black than the % of video game heroes. Maybe they might like to have a character who looks like them some of the time? Not all the time, just, you know, some of the time. Maybe bring that % up a bit to be a bit closer to the % of people who play? So if his race doesn't matter, and he's white, then why not change him to black, because you (you in this case being whoever the black guy was originally talking to) the creator won't care one way or another (since it doesn't matter to you), but it will matter to other people who don't get to see that very often and will appreciate the change.

Does that sentence still seem dumb to you now? If so, why does it seem dumb? Is it because race does matter afterall to you? Well then, why does it matter to you? In the end, it comes down to this. If something doesn't matter to you at all, but it does matter to someone else, why not let them have it their way? If you don't want to let them have it, then clearly it must matter to you, so the question becomes, why?
I honestly dont really care, but the sentence "if it doesnt matter, why not make him black" in itself is contradictory, the only other bone i have to pick with this comic is summed up quite nicely in the other shoop I posted, its tots fine to make fun of fat white men, short white men, and nerdy white men, but change "white" or "man" and you better be posting on 4chan unless you wanna get banned

Jesus Christ this image is never going to stop being useful.

No, in the first-world you are not going to get discriminated against if you're a straight, white man. And even if you are, why is that even relevant? This is a comic about equal representation of black people in video games. The reason the "White Guy Defense Force" is mocked is because they hold horrible, racist opinions, not because they are white guys.

Edit: Also, 18 pages. Jeez, you guys need to stop nice work guys, let's see if we can get to 20.

Son-zone, Oedipus complex. Clever stuff. Judging by a some of the comments, this went over a lot of heads.

All in all, the only feasible solution is to treat people the way you want to be treated and don't freak out if something comes across as potentially offensive, since chances are it's not meant to be.
Making a flamebait comic that spawns 17 pages of debate is not the way to go.
Man youre taking it too seriously, anyone who matters can see through shit like this like cellophane, just have fun with all the buttdevastated SJWs
Buttdevastated! Thank you...that's an even better one. I'll be using that in the future. And yeah, to add on to this discussion, I'm a bit confused as to why it's gotten so large. I didn't know white people had it so hard that they broke down in tears when they got made fun of.
Well the real issue isn't that white people cant take being made fun off. It is that it is socially acceptable to make fun of white CIS males for literally anything, but you do the same with any other denomination and prepare to get all of reddit, tumblr and the escapist crowd after you.
Ahh. Eh, I guess I see it. But honestly, I think that might be because most of the jokes about other minorities on the internet are, for the most part, offensive or just not funny. And honestly, I think that all the advantages that white CIS gender males have in the real world, and please don't act like they don't have any...we all know they do, mockery on the internet seems like a small price to pay.

How about you actually read up on some stuff? Sure males have alot of privledges, but that comes at a price, like 93% of workplace deaths are males (i dont know how to source on the escapist), and dont come banging the glass ceiling without taking a look in the glass cellar.

In actuality, reality is alot more complex than just "white males are priviledged", but it still only okay to mock white men as much as you want, which is hypocrisy, because the people who do it in the next breath start banging on about equality.

Its ludicrous

Do you think that might be because white males are the people who make up most of the work force? Like if roles were reversed, and woman made up most of it, woman would have more workplace deaths?

Ok, honest question here for everyone:

Why exactly is this comic offensive? What specifically about it is insulting or demeaning or whatever else that would invite such umbrage? From where I'm sitting, there's literally nothing in it to get worked up about.

Is it the put-upon white guys taking up arms against the perceived racism with vaguely defined and poorly-quantified "facts"? Is it the Zimmerman reference? Is it the fact that the black guy dies, like in every action movie ever? Or is it... the fedora?

I can't see the reason why there's 10 pages of angry replies to this, nor why the entire first page is all about how the comic is pure flamebait. I just don't see it.

Someone explain please.
Depressing possibility: it struck a nerve with a disturbingly large number of posters. Meaning we have quite a few of those guys here.
OP: I loved this comic. My reaction:
Oh, you guys. Never change.

Women comprised 46% of the total U.S. labor force and are projected to account for 47% of the labor force in 2016. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_percentage_of_the_American_workforce_is_female

So, lol nope, it has to do with the glass cellar, that I mentioned earlier. Men are just responsible for the shitty dangerous jobs.

And I brought up the drugs because the other poster thought Trayvon was on his way to see his friends. A bold faced lie when we know full well what Trayvon was doing. Trayvon didn't have any close friends in the area. He was brand new.
Sure. You somehow know exactly what he was planning on doing and that he didn't know anyone in the area. Wait...how?

Explain to me how. Note, the black man is not the one saying race doesn't matter, the person he initially spoke with in this anecdote is. If race doesn't matter, why can't it be different?

Hell, I'll give you an even simpler, kind of insulting example.

Man A walks into kitchen, sees Man B preparing to cook chicken for dinner.
Man A "Does it matter to you if we have chicken for dinner tonight?"
Man B "Not really."
Man A "Well then what if we had pasta instead?"
Man B "OMG CONTRADICTION!"

Ah youre actually right - when it comes to the comic. That doesnt make the (admittedly not true to the comic) sentence I wrote less hypocritical though. Also as I said, that is hardly the big issue here.

Had I been a woman or black and had an issue with a targeted comic, I would've been supported instantly, for no other reason than my appearance.
Thanks for explaining what I am thinking to me. Clearly the best person to know what my motivations and opinions are is an anonymous person on the internet who I've never met before. Bless you good sir.
