Oh what the hell? What the hell is this comic? Seriously? You guys think this comic is accurate? That it's slinging hard truths? Are you really, by some unfathomable mental gymnastics, able to rationalize it as anything other than a strawman argument based on offensive stereotypes?
And for fuck's sake, stop bringing up "euphoric". The quote that came from was a parody to begin with.
Who said it was accurate and slinging hard truths? I've read the entire thread, but I started this morning so maybe I missed that part.
I'd say it takes a bit more mental gymnastics to think this comic was actually meant to be an argument as opposed to just mocking parody.
The comic is basically on the same level as this
So what, you lot are offended by a mocking comic and have to accuse it of making an argument when it's just mocking? You seem to have nothing to say about what I actually asked and posted.
It was making an argument in the first panel. Then it suddenly brings in straw opponents of that argument to mock. So it's exactly like the cartoon I just posted.
Okay so you're incredibly offended by it and lying about it.
It showed an argument. It did not make one against those people. There being an argument in it does not mean it is making that argument. The point of the comic does not seem to be about his argument, it seems to be to mock people who react poorly to it. Not by saying it actually represents them.
But please, keep insisting repeatedly. I'm sure you'll consistently fail to give a reason to think it was trying to present anything but a mockery.
I have you just insist I haven't. That seems to be a pattern with you. If after 3 or 4 posts you haven't convinced the person they're right you start getting condescending, nitpicky and more insistent .
Notice how unlike you I actually said something about the comic and what is in it. You just complain about me instead of replying to the refutation. WGDF ftw I guess?
I've already said something about the comic. That it paints one side as calm and reasonable and then has a bunch of opponents to that view who act like idiots who shout irrelevant crap. It's like a bad political cartoon (incidentally I got that image from an article about bad political cartoons).
Yes, it's pairing a straight man with some lunatics. That's a commonly used trope in comedy.
Also a commonly used trope by pundits and in political cartoons.
Yes, because political cartoons, though they often fail, usually at least strive for some degree of light comedy, and so do some pundits, if we're talking about the likes of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.

So do I get my ban now, or later?
Your edit would be more effective if that had been the response the black man had actually received. But then, if it was, he in turn would likely have also used a different argument. Different reasonings deserve different responses afterall. But I'm assuming you're either trolling for attention, or incapable of understanding that different situations are different?
Not even my shoop, but it kinda highlights how dumb that sentence is.
Except that sentence isn't dumb, because there's a perfectly valid reasoning behind it. Most video game characters/heroes are white. Not all the people who play video games are white. Some of them are black. A larger % of the video game playing population is black than the % of video game heroes. Maybe they might like to have a character who looks like them some of the time? Not all the time, just, you know, some of the time. Maybe bring that % up a bit to be a bit closer to the % of people who play? So if his race doesn't matter, and he's white, then why not change him to black, because you (you in this case being whoever the black guy was originally talking to) the creator won't care one way or another (since it doesn't matter to you), but it will matter to other people who don't get to see that very often and will appreciate the change.
Does that sentence still seem dumb to you now? If so, why does it seem dumb? Is it because race does matter afterall to you? Well then, why does it matter to you? In the end, it comes down to this. If something doesn't matter to you at all, but it does matter to someone else, why not let them have it their way? If you don't want to let them have it, then clearly it must matter to you, so the question becomes, why?
