Funny how people say remake with those three. Six needs a bloody remake if anything.
And a spinoff from 8? Hmm...Sure, why not. The story was a bit lacking in places but it was a good game. I don't understand why people say that SE should come up with something new, when they already have. What's the problem?
Only retards and sheep though that FF7 was even playable. FF8 was a brilliant game and deserves so much more attention unlike FF7 which has had every possible drop of money squeezed out, making a string of awful spin offs from an awful game.
Yeah... I see thing the opposite way... Final Fantasy VII I've played through a bunch of times... Crisis Core is pretty awesome... well, until my PSP memory card got whipped out... Dirge of Cerberus was pretty fun, probably the worst though... And Advent Children was pretty cool, besides the narration... Final Fantasy VIII I couldn't get into at all... I even tried again later and couldn't get into it... it's just kinda bland and boring...
Even though I didn't like FF7 and the characters I am going to say 'Yes'. If FF7 alone can have such a huge fan base behind it then there should be some kind of continuation to please 'em.
Look at Zelda. Even though I love the series it has different Link characters with almost the exact same abilities every time with the same process of defeating temples and Ganondorf. If I can enjoy the same thing over and over with the main lovable characters, why not do the same with Cloud, Tifa and Sephiroth?
i like 8 but im done with the spin offs i want new games. what i think square needs to do is either make a new legend of mana(the ps1 title was "legend") or actually release seiken dentetsu 3 (secret of mana 2) as dlc for the 360 or as a ds game.

But seriously, I don't have to. Cloud and co. have had enough adventures!
Give Squall a shot at the big time!
And yeah, a Fujin and Raijin game would fuckin rock, cause they disappear for so much of the game, and I just think there's so many opportunities for a great spinoff game, to supplement the story
Why would anyone think the story in FF8 was good? I'm pretty sure at the end of the game you figure out everything was pointless as it will all just be repeated over again. The stuff with Laguna was annoying, Seifer was one of the worst villians ever, there's so many holes in the plot, even for an RPG, the game was seriously a chore to play through.
I dont know why so many people talk about ffviii as a failiure, it sold loads and was critically acclaimed, most people wanted another amazing final fantasy game after vii and most people were not disappointed, there were just a few who couldnt cope with the gameplay changes they made. I personally thought the game was amazing, its my favourite final fantasy and my 2nd favourite rpg of all time, the story was brilliant (although not perfect) and the characters were memorable, like Laguna.
To spinoffs, i wouldnt mind something like a prequel, as crisis core was a very good game, so i have faith in se making one for ffviii too. I also wouldnt mind a remake for ffviii, with next gen graphics and GOOD voice acting. Thats the most i would want though, i dont want the game to be milked too much
This is why I hate (yes, HATE) Final Fantasy. Everyone is gushing about it and there are made a new spin off every frikkin' morning.
I normally don't care less for things I dislike, but when you get it thrown in your face everywhere by fans, I simply start to hate it. And I hate Final Fantasy with a passion now. No more spin offs. PLEASE!

Well whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. I don't know the games very well and hardly anything about the characters but hell, sequal/spin-off for Squall.
yea man i know what you mean. There are a handful of FF titles that i wholeheartedly tried to enjoy and i wanted to. But just couldn't see through to the end for the life of me. 8 Just happening to be one of them.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with this. I've (within the past 5 minutes) got to the final dungeon, and I'm on the verge of uninstalling this monstrosity.
Take away my abilities? Force me to do stupid puzzles? Give me several hours of boss rushes? Screw that.
The junction system is cool, the first two and a bit discs were great (The entire Edea attack was fantastic, as was the fight between the Gardens) but then the plot falls apart. There's nothing inherently bad about the whole time-travel thing, it's just done horrendously. One character says "She's a sorceress from the future" and nobody bats an eyelid. Same with the amnesia thing (when you introduce a plottwist that relies on some fantasy concept you REALLY need to foreshadow it and introduce that concept several hours before. A mistake they make AGAIN with the bizzare moon-monsters)
I didn't understand ANYTHING from the climax of disc 3. Edea goes to Esthar for....unexplained reason. Squall goes into space for...unexplained reason. Esthar have built a giant pull-monsters-from-the-sky base for....unexplained reason. Ultimecia is compressing time for....unexplained reason. Yes, Sephiroth had little characterisation above "Insane! Become God! Power!" but at least the surrounding events were clear. The WEAPONS, the mako cannon, the mad doctor, they all had reasons behind them.
The final pep talk before attacking consists of "Love, friendship and courage! That's what you need!"
The final straw for me was when one boss loudly announces "Using elemental attacks. What I don't use, I don't like" Utterly breaks the immersion (and is a stupid gimmick-boss to boot)and is in the game because Square are incapable of subtly conveying information to the player.
The relationship between Squall/Rinoa and Laguna/Elle are both nicely done, but the backdrop to it is painful.

I have been unable to try others than the first one, 7, 8 and... one more which I don't remember This due to me not having a PS. Anyway, when I "grew up" and I saw online that people loved these games, I checked it out. Dug out the stories (this was before wikipedia), found videos (before youtube...) and tried to learn everything about these games. What did I find out? Every game was as boring as I remembered. As for the new combat elements... that doesn't fix the god awful stories. And don't get me started on that pansy Sephiroth!
Anywho, glad to see someone who share my view, at least partially, when it comes to FF. I thought I was alone... *sniff*
I genuinely thought it was a really good game, the junction system was very immersive, the story was by far the best in any final fantasy so far. The chemistry between Squall and Rinoa was epic.
I just think it needs something new

Squall was essentially Cloud, except Cloud was an interesting character behind the guise of the 'bad ass silent stranger', and Squall wasn't. He was just the token 'badass silent stranger' type. I mean, I don't even know how they went back to that after Cloud completely subverted the cliche. FF8's story was completely unintelligible. It genuinely didn't make any goddamn sense. FF7 made an effort to actually give us a genuinely fleshed out villain. Sepheroth was there from the beginning, and he had a clear cut pathos, and motives that came from said pathos. FF8 gave us their real villain in the endgame, some time traveling ***** that no one gave a shit about. FF7 had an eclectic cast of characters, while FF8 had the cast from 90210 dressed like idiots. I could go on...don't get me started on the god awful junction system.
