James Nesbitt could be interesting.

I think an older, more serious and more mature doctor, with the potential for some maniacal glee like Christopher Eccleston is what's needed after Matt Smith and Moffat's...playful series.
Yes Yes Yes!

I wanted him already as the 11th one due to his performance in Jekyll and for the same reasons, being that he could be an older, more serious Doctor while still being able to be gleefully mad.
It also helps that Jekyll was by Moffat sooo...maybe this time?

Same here :D

Everything Moffat touches turns to gold except Doctor Who, it seems to me that he thinks of Doctor Who as a kid's show while occasionally throwing older viewers a bone in the form of a dick/vagina joke.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, and I don't see it ever happening, but I remember reading somewhere that a Time Lord could become a Time Lady through suicide. Obvious problems present themselves here, but it could be interesting.
One of the more recent episodes "The Doctors Wife" suggests that timelords could swap gender if they want. Though they probably stick to their original sex out of tradition. It would make for an interesting change at the least, if not necessarily succesful or well received.
I would really like a female Doctor, but I dont see it happening, sadly.

An older Doctor would also be okay. Getting tired of everyone fancying the Doctor.
Worked with David Tennant, but Matt Smith is not really attractive.
There was talk about Billie Piper becoming the doctor after Tennant, and honestly, I think a female Doctor would be a really cool change of pace. If you recall the Tennant/Smith "regeneration" scene he pulls at his hair and exclaims, "hair...I'm a girl!" so I think that's a distinct possibility. Obviously not one of the former companions, but a female Doctor would be one of the best ways to change up the series without drastically retooling the entire show (like what happened with the new TARDIS).

Lucy Lawless

Cause... well, cause Lucy Lawless is fucking awesome.

I mean, look at that smirk. You know she'd make an awesome Doctor.

Plus, imagine the flirting between the Doctor and River Song if Lucy Lawless was the Doctor. How awesome would that be?

How about nobody and we just give the Doc a break? You'd figure a Timelord would get a vacation every dozen incarnations or so...

My idea for the Twelfth Doctor was Colin Morgan, the lead character in Merlin. He's relatively young but give it a couple of years and I think he'd be perfect for the role. What would be really fantastic if they gave him a sort of old man attitude, like the First Doctor, as a juxtaposition to his youthful appearance =)
Except Colin Morgan was in the episode "Midnight" already. That'd be surreal.
Colin Baker played a Time Lord guard captain in a 5th Doctor story before he became the 6th Doctor.

...

I actaully think it's time for a big name, somebody with a massive ego and existing fanbase, TBH. In that someone needs to tell Moffatt when he's being stupid, which is far too often, and you need someone established to do that sort of thing.

Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who if not him can bring a fresh new kind of doctor to the show?
Bruce Campbell. What he lacks in muscle mass he makes up for in chin. And it would cost far less to employ him.
Another "great" choice would be Alan Rickman. I don't know why, but I think it would be entertaining if the new Doctor had trouble expressing emotions and spoke in a broken monotone.

I vote for Stephen Fry, the man...the man is just amazing. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Alan Rickman take a shot at the role. Both men are magnificent actors and wonderfully brilliant men.

Someone older, I don't really care who. Or atleast someone with eyebrows, which would already be a huge improvement over Matt Smith. Sure, I haven't gotten that far in the series yet(Just started Tennant's first season), but just the fact that that face is waiting for me in the not-to-distant future makes my skin crawl. I don't even know what it is about him.

Stephen Merchant.

His work as Wheatley really came off as something that could be the Doctor. Obviously less stupid, though.

I'd say either Benedict Cumberbatch or Andrew Scott (basically Sherlock or Moriarty). Either one would be brilliant, and darker as well. Some of my favourite scenes were Tennant's Doctor when his darker side came out.

Smith has grown on me a little but I still prefer Tennant and Ecclestone's doctors by far.

Karl Pilkington, I want to see a doctor who is like why bother traveling you have all you need right at home, crisps, the tele, why bother going through space and time.
"Travelled through time and space again today. It were a bit rubbish, if I'm bein' honest. Tired of Christmas bein' December 25th each year, so I went in April."

Hugh Laurie!
C'mon! He'd be a great Doctor.
Look at him. Bowties are cool.
As much as I'd want this I have to say it's no longer plausible. In a better, alternate reality, I'm sure Hugh Laurie was the 9th Doctor, Stephen Fry the Master and House M.D. did not come to pass.

Benedict Cumberbatch could be good, but he has said time and time again that unlike Tennant he doesn't want what the role's baggage: Your face in lunch boxes, action figures, being the Doctor all the time for the fans/kids...

YES, Please--

I'd be over the moon with a female Doctor, but I don't see it happening. There would be a massive fan outrage and all that.

Although... There are some dissenting voices out there... http://girl-doctor.livejournal.com/

I'd like to see Stephen Fry do it. I can see him suiting the role and still making it his own.

Richard Hammond.

He pulls of an amazing documentary dialogue, looks great in a trenchcoat and...Well...
he's just perfect, he's quirky, educated, funny and dynamic.

Me...

The Doctor seems to be getting younger anyway, so it wouldn't be so odd to have a 21 year old play him.

I'm weird, relatively attractive, and can pull off a totally legit British accent...

Too bad there's no casting calls for something as big as this.
